Summary

Core half of PraisonAI Replay: a local view of how agents interact, live while a run is going and replayed afterwards. This PR adds no UI. It makes the existing trace stream (trace/context_events.py) complete enough to draw a run, and adds pure-data graph export for agents, teams and flows.

  • Dependencies and imports: no new dependencies. import praisonaiagents is unchanged (7–8 ms, measured), and the graph module is not loaded at import.
  • Cost when not recording: about 98 ns per start/end pair when no recording is active (the emitter is disabled by default).
  • Back-compat: schema 1.1 is backward compatible. New fields are optional and omitted when unset, and 1.0 trace files still load.

What changes

Area Change
trace/context_events.py Schema 1.1: optional run_id, parent_seq, node_id. Eight new event types: workflow_*, task_*, step_*, approval_*. agent_handoff(kind=handoff|delegate|route|spawn). A private _run_scope lets nested teams and flows inherit the outer run id.
Bug fix: parallel lanes branch_id and the sequence counter lived on the shared emitter, so concurrent Parallel/Loop branches overwrote each other. They now live in contextvars plus itertools.count.
Bug fix: silent relabel ContextEvent.from_dict turned any unknown event type into context_snapshot. The raw type is now preserved.
agent/handoff.py agent_handoff() had zero callers, so praisonai replay flow never showed a hand-off. It now fires at every real hand-off site.
agents/agents.py Team task_start/task_end (completed / failed / skipped) and workflow_start/workflow_end with the team graph. An unnamed team is labelled by its agents ("Researcher + Writer").
workflows/workflows.py AgentFlow step_start/step_end (completed / failed / skipped / cached, plus the chosen route) for sync, async and nested steps.
process/process.py The hierarchical manager's choice is recorded as agent_handoff(kind="delegate").
approval/registry.py approval_requested/approval_decided around the real backend wait only (fast paths stay silent). Composes with #5917's _human_wait_scope. Task human review is covered too.
llm/llm.py llm_request/llm_response (tokens, cost, duration, model) on the LiteLLM path, which emitted nothing before (part of #5821). Chat Completions and Responses API, sync and async. chat_mixin.py's AFTER_LLM hook code (open PR #5890) is not touched.
workflows/diagram.py to_graph(obj) produces praisonai.graph/1 for Agent / AgentTeam / AgentFlow (tasks, dependencies, hand-offs, tools, manager, Route/Parallel/Loop/Repeat/If/Include/Discussion), plus graph_to_mermaid(). Also AgentTeam.to_graph() / to_mermaid() and AgentFlow.to_graph(). Ids are stable across processes. AgentFlow.to_mermaid() output is byte-identical (existing tests unchanged).

Tests

  • New unit tests: tests/unit/trace/test_run_events.py (41) and tests/unit/workflows/test_graph.py with golden graphs. They cover field round-trips, 1.0 back-compat, an 8-branch Parallel run (correct branch_id / parent_seq, unique sequence numbers), every hand-off path, task statuses, manager delegation, approval pairs, run-id inheritance and LiteLLM-path events. The import guard is in tests/unit/test_lazy_imports.py.
  • Focused shards: tests/unit/trace, tests/unit/workflows, tests/unit/hooks and the lazy-import tests: 689 passed, 2 skipped.
  • Full tests/unit compared by test id against main: no new failures. The extra ids on the branch all come from one environment issue: scipy's dylib fails to load on macOS when a conftest touches the lazily loaded transformers. Re-run serially, both trees fail the same ids.
  • Real agentic test (tests/integration/test_replay_events_real.py, gated on RUN_REAL_KEY_TESTS=1 PRAISONAI_ALLOW_NETWORK=1). It records a 2-agent gpt-4o-mini team plus a real Triage→Billing hand-off and passes. In an end-to-end run, all 29 events carried a run id, sequence numbers were unique, and the hand-off was recorded.

Why the public surface grows (signature parity gate)

AgentTeam.to_graph() and AgentTeam.to_mermaid() are new public methods with no TypeScript counterpart. They are recorded in inventory-baseline.json with --write, as the gate asks. Replay's graph export and the run-event schema 1.1 are Python-only for now: the TS SDK has no Replay viewer. A TS port can follow if there is demand. The regenerated SIGNATURE_PARITY.md/signature-parity.json only move line numbers.

Origin: outsider

Some issues this PR references came from someone without write access:

Their content was treated as untrusted data. Fixes are limited to source and tests. Nothing in .github/, dependency manifests, lockfiles, build or install files, or conftest.py was changed, and no network calls, telemetry, credential handling, eval/exec/subprocess or dynamic imports were added.

MervinPraison and others added 8 commits October 26, 2026 12:05
Context events gain three optional fields (omitted from to_dict when unset)
so a replay can tell which run, which enclosing span and which graph node an
event belongs to. 1.0 traces still load, and from_dict keeps an unknown
event_type as its raw string (with .value) instead of relabelling it.

Branch id and the open-span stack move into contextvars keyed by emitter, so
concurrent Parallel/Loop branches no longer clobber each other; sequence
numbers come from itertools.count under a lock so append order matches
sequence order. Adds workflow/task/step/approval start/end events, a kind on
agent_handoff, and private _run_scope/_workflow_scope helpers. Every new
method is a no-op when the emitter is disabled.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
One builder walks a definition and produces praisonai.graph/1 data with ids
derived from names and positions only (agent:, task:, step:, tool:,
human:you, manager:Manager, start:begin, end:done), so the ids are the same
in every process and are what replay events carry as node_id. Covers task
context/next_tasks/conditions, the hierarchical manager, hand-offs, tools,
human review and Route/Parallel/Loop/Repeat/If/Include/Discussion.

AgentFlow.to_mermaid() output is byte-identical (the builder records the
legacy draw order). Adds to_graph(), graph_to_mermaid(), AgentFlow.to_graph()
and AgentTeam.to_graph()/to_mermaid(). Stdlib only and never imported by
import praisonaiagents; golden JSON and a two-subprocess stability check pin
the shape.

…es and approvals

- agent/handoff.py: every place a hand-off actually happens (programmatic,
async, LLM tool, typed sync/async) emits one agent_handoff(kind="handoff")
with the context policy and redacted args.
- agents/agents.py: task_start/task_end (completed, failed after retries,
  skipped by should_run) on the sync and async paths in every process mode;
  workflow_start/workflow_end with the team graph inside _run_scope(run_id);
  approval_requested/approval_decided around human review.
- workflows/workflows.py: step_start/step_end for top-level and nested steps
(completed/failed/skipped/cached) via helpers that wrap the existing
  on_step_start/on_step_complete calls; Route and If record the branch taken;
  pattern executors are wrapped once so every nesting level is covered;
workflow_start/workflow_end with the flow graph and a fresh run id.
- process/process.py: the hierarchical manager's choice is an
agent_handoff from "Manager" with kind="delegate", the task node id and a
  task-status summary (sync and async).
- approval/registry.py: approval_requested/approval_decided around the real
backend call only (not the fast paths), args redacted.

All of it is skipped when the context emitter is disabled; the graph builder
is imported only for a traced run.

Only the agent's OpenAI-client path recorded model calls, so a team or flow
running on any LiteLLM model showed no LLM activity in a replay. The two
LiteLLM choke points (_completion_with_retry and its async twin) now emit
the pair with model, duration_ms, prompt/completion tokens and cost when
litellm knows the price. Streams are wrapped in a pass-through that records
the response when the stream ends; with tracing off the stream is untouched.

A call the agent already recorded (its OpenAI-client dispatch can reach the
LiteLLM adapter) is not counted twice: the agent's llm_request leaves a
context marker the LLM class honours inside the same span. chat_mixin.py is
not modified.

Schema round-trip and 1.0 back-compat, unknown event types, parent_seq and
run_id inheritance, 8 concurrent Parallel branches (branch_id, parent_seq,
unique sequence numbers), flow step statuses and chosen routes, team task
completed/skipped/failed (sync and async), the manager's delegate hand-off,
human-review and tool-call approval pairs, every hand-off path emitting once,
the LiteLLM path (mocked: sync, async, streaming, errors, no double count),
and a micro-benchmark that the disabled emitter adds next to nothing.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
OpenAI models reached through LiteLLM (e.g. llm="openai/gpt-4o-mini") use
litellm.responses, not litellm.completion, so the real agentic run showed the
Writer agent with no LLM events. The four Responses API entry points (sync,
async, streamed sync, streamed async) are now thin traced wrappers around the
unchanged bodies, recording input/output tokens, text and cost.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
A two-agent AgentTeam on gpt-4o-mini (one agent on the OpenAI-client path, one
on the LiteLLM path) plus a real Triage -> Billing hand-off, recorded with a
ContextListSink. Asserts workflow/task/agent/llm events, the hand-off, the
team graph, run ids and resolvable parent links. Gated on RUN_REAL_KEY_TESTS=1,
PRAISONAI_ALLOW_NETWORK=1 and a real OPENAI_API_KEY; about five small calls.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
AgentTeam.name defaults to None, so workflow_start carried no name and viewers
fell back to the first agent's name ('Researcher') as the run's title. An
unnamed team is now labelled by its agents ('Researcher + Writer'); a named
team keeps its name.

Walkthrough

The pull request adds schema 1.1 replay tracing across workflow, team, approval, hand-off, delegation, and LLM execution. It also adds graph serialization and Mermaid rendering for agents, teams, and flows, with unit and integration tests.

Changes: Replay tracing and workflow graphs

Layer / File(s) Summary
Trace event schema and context state
src/praisonai-agents/praisonaiagents/trace/context_events.py, src/praisonai-agents/tests/unit/trace/test_run_events.py
Trace events add run, parent-sequence, and graph-node fields. The emitter tracks spans and branches and supports workflow, task, step, approval, hand-off, agent, tool, and LLM events. Tests cover serialization, span nesting, concurrency, and disabled tracing.
Graph construction and exports

Graph conversion builds nodes and typed edges for agents, teams, and flows, and renders Mermaid diagrams. Team and flow APIs expose graph output. Fixtures and tests check graph structure, stable IDs, rendering, and lazy loading. Parity inventories are updated for the added team methods and source line changes.
Workflow, team, approval, and hand-off tracing

Workflow steps and team tasks emit lifecycle events and statuses. Approval outcomes, hand-offs, and manager delegation are also traced. The real-model integration test checks event relationships and agent attribution.
LLM request and response tracing
src/praisonai-agents/praisonaiagents/llm/llm.py, src/praisonai-agents/tests/unit/trace/test_run_events.py
Chat Completions and Responses API calls record request and response data, errors, usage, duration, and cost. Stream wrappers record completion or failure, and tests cover synchronous, asynchronous, and streaming calls.

Explanation

The title "feat(replay): complete run events (run/parent ids, tasks, steps, hand-offs, approvals, LiteLLM) and graph export for Replay" matches the changeset. The diff adds trace schema 1.1 with run_id, parent_seq, and node_id fields, workflow/task/step/approval/handoff events, LiteLLM call recording, and to_graph/to_mermaid graph export. The title is long and lists many sub-parts, but it names the main change accurately.

[Medium impact] The changes affect trace recording across Python agent and workflow runs.

The PR still needs fixes for repeated-step highlighting and batch items sharing a run ID before merging.

Findings

  1. P1 Repeated steps highlight earlier work ▶
  2. P1 Batch items share one ID ▶
  3. P2 Failover uses the wrong price ▶

Summary

This PR adds Replay events and graph exports for agents, teams, and flows.

  • Team and flow runs now link their events to the work they perform.
  • Traces now show when an agent passes work to another agent.
  • Traces now show when a person reviews a tool or task result.
  • LiteLLM calls now add their request and response to the trace.
  • Agents, teams, and flows now export stable graphs and Mermaid diagrams.

@claude You are the FINAL architecture reviewer. If the branch is under MervinPraison/PraisonAI (not a fork), you are able to make modifications to this branch and push directly. SCOPE: Review changes in this PR. Python SDK: praisonaiagents, praisonai. TypeScript SDK: src/praisonai-ts/. Do NOT modify src/praisonai-rust. Read ALL comments above from Gemini, Qodo, CodeRabbit, and Copilot carefully before responding.

MANDATORY READ (before reviewing):

  • Always read src/praisonai-agents/AGENTS.md
  • If this PR touches src/praisonai-ts/, also read src/praisonai-ts/AGENTS.md §2.1.2 (TS triage + PR review checklist)

Phase 1: Review per AGENTS.md

  1. Protocol-driven: check heavy implementations vs core SDK
  2. Backward compatible: ensure zero feature regressions
  3. Performance: no hot-path regressions
  4. SDK value: review in depth whether the change genuinely adds value to the SDK — never add features for the sake of adding them. It must strengthen the SDK (simpler, more user-friendly, robust, world-class, secure). If it does not clearly add value, request changes or recommend rejecting/closing rather than merging scope creep
  5. Do not bloat the Agent class with additional params — only if absolutely required; we already support many params.
  6. Repo routing: agent-callable tools → PraisonAI-Tools; lifecycle plugins → PraisonAI-Plugins; optional sandbox backends → PraisonAI-Plugins (praisonai.sandbox entry point) — request changes if wrongly added to praisonaiagents/
6b. External tool examples (examples/tools/external/**): If the diff is confined to that path, mark SDK value ❌ for monorepo merge — redirect the contributor to PraisonAI-Tools; do not Approve for merge unless the PR has the maintainer-accept-example label.
6c. New vendor *_tools.py in core (src/praisonai-agents/praisonaiagents/tools/): If the PR adds a new *_tools.py for a third-party API/SaaS/dataset (e.g. FXMacroData), mark Repo routing ❌ and SDK value ❌ — redirect to MervinPraison/PraisonAI-Tools. Do not Approve because legacy bundled tools (Tavily/Exa/You.com/etc.) already in core are not precedent for new vendor modules. Request changes or recommend closing unless the PR has maintainer-accept-core-tools.

MANDATORY COMMENT FORMAT — include this Phase 1 table in your review comment:

For TypeScript PRs (src/praisonai-ts/), also add:
| TS types / parity / tests | ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale (npm run build && npm test) |

Phase 2: FIX Valid Issues
7. For any VALID bugs or architectural flaws found by Gemini, CodeRabbit, Qodo, Copilot, or any other reviewer: implement the fix
8. Also independently identify and fix any gaps or issues you find in the changed code — do not rely only on prior reviewer feedback
9. Push all code fixes directly to THIS branch (do NOT create a new PR)
10. Comment a summary of exact files modified and what you skipped

Phase 3: Final Verdict
11. Never Approve or write “Approve for merge” if any Phase 1 row is ❌, if rule 6b/6c applies, or if the change belongs in PraisonAI-Tools/PraisonAI-Plugins. Use Request changes, redirect to the external repo, and recommend closing the monorepo PR when routing is wrong.
12. Approve only when every Phase 1 row is ✅ (including Repo routing and SDK value) and blocking issues are resolved; otherwise request changes with clear action items

Protocol-driven / no heavy impl in core ✅ Stdlib only. The trace events extend the existing trace/context_events.py, and the graph builder lives in the existing workflows/diagram.py, loaded lazily. Heavy parts (CLI, HTML/OTel export) are in the wrapper PR #6011.
Backward compatible ✅ Schema 1.1 only adds optional fields, and 1.0 files still load. AgentFlow.to_mermaid() output is byte-identical. Approval and task flow are unchanged.
Performance (hot path) ✅ Every emission site is guarded by emitter._enabled, and the emitter is off by default. diagram is not imported by import praisonaiagents, and a lazy-import test covers this.
SDK value ✅ It fixes real bugs: agent_handoff() had no callers, parallel branches overwrote each other's branch_id, unknown event types were relabelled, and the LiteLLM path recorded no LLM events. It also makes the existing trace stream usable for replay.
No Agent param bloat ✅ agent.py is untouched and no new Agent params are added. Only to_graph() / to_mermaid() methods are added to AgentTeam and AgentFlow.
Repo routing ✅ This is core tracing and definition export, not a vendor tool or plugin.

Phase 2: fixes pushed in 7f92faff5

File Fix
praisonaiagents/llm/llm.py CodeRabbit: llm_request now stores a copy of messages, so later tool-loop appends or context-shrink no longer change the recorded request. Greptile (failover model): the span now takes response.model, so name and cost reflect the model that actually served the call. This follows the existing _response_model_for_tracking approach.
praisonaiagents/workflows/diagram.py Greptile: team graphs now draw when/then_task/else_task routes. Labels are kept when two conditions point at the same target ("approved / forced"). Repeat(step=[a, b]) now shows each member instead of a single list node. The golden graphs did not change.
tests/unit/test_lazy_imports.py CodeRabbit: the wall-clock <200 ms import test is replaced by a deterministic check that litellm and chromadb are not loaded at import.
tests/unit/trace/test_run_events.py, tests/unit/workflows/test_graph.py Regression tests for each fix above.

Tests: I ran tests/unit/trace, tests/unit/workflows and test_lazy_imports.py: 538 passed, 1 skipped. The full tests/unit run gave 12430 passed and 27 failed. The failures are environmental (chonkie, typer, starlette and praisonai-sandbox are not installed on this runner, plus a PostHog network timeout). test_placement.py fails the same way with my changes stashed.

Skipped. These need a maintainer decision:

  1. Greptile P1, batch items share one run_id: start() uses the team's fixed self.run_id, so start_for_each() and repeated start() calls on one team record the same run id. A fresh id per top-level call would break the current contract that team.run_id equals the recorded run id. That contract is asserted in test_run_events.py and the real-key integration test, and feat(replay): praisonai replay view/export/rerun, record(), OTel and self-contained HTML export #6011 may rely on it. Pick one: a fresh id per top-level call (and update feat(replay): praisonai replay view/export/rerun, record(), OTel and self-contained HTML export #6011), or document that workflow_start marks where each run begins.
  2. Greptile P1, a repeated step object highlights its first position: _Graph.register maps by id(obj), so the same function or agent used at two flow positions emits the first node_id both times. Fixing this needs per-position tracking at run time, which is more than a minimal fix. The graph itself is correct; only the highlight for later occurrences is wrong.

Security checklist (outsider origin)

# Item Result
1 Scope ✅ All 17 files serve Replay events and graph export.
2 Network ✅ No new URLs or HTTP/socket calls. litellm.cost_per_token is a local price-table lookup.
3 Code execution ✅ No subprocess in library code. The two tests that use it run fixed code strings with sys.executable.
4 Secrets ✅ Reading OPENAI_API_KEY / RUN_REAL_KEY_TESTS only gates the opt-in integration test, and the key is never logged. Approval args are redacted, and a test asserts sk-… and passwords do not reach the event.
5 Weakened controls ✅ approval/registry.py keeps the fail-closed stale gate, timeout and persistence order. The change only wraps them in begin/end events.
6 Supply chain ✅ No manifests, lockfiles, CI, conftest.py or .pth files changed.
7 Obfuscation ✅ No encoded blobs or bidi/zero-width characters. The only long lines are JSON goldens.
8 Tests ⚠️ One assertion was replaced: the timing budget became a deterministic module check, which is stricter and less flaky. No tests were removed or skipped.
9 Backdoors ✅ No magic values, or behaviour keyed on users, dates or hosts.
10 Injection artifacts ✅ No instructions to AI tools in code, comments or test data.

No deterministic risk flags came with this request; the scan above found none.

Phase 3: verdict

Request changes (small). All Phase 1 rows pass and the fixable findings are fixed. The run_id question (skipped item 1) changes what Replay groups as one run, so a maintainer should decide it before merge. Item 2 can be a follow-up.

The signature gate flags new Python public methods without a TypeScript
counterpart. Replay's graph export is Python-only for now (the TS SDK has no
Replay viewer or run-event schema 1.1 yet), so the two methods are recorded in
the inventory baseline; the regenerated parity reports only move line numbers.

Phase 1 — AGENTS.md review

Check Result
Protocol-driven / no heavy impl in core ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale
Backward compatible ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale
Performance (hot path) ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale
SDK value ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale (explicitly judge whether the change strengthens the SDK)
No Agent param bloat ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale
Repo routing ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale

For TypeScript PRs (src/praisonai-ts/), also add:
| TS types / parity / tests | ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale (npm run build && npm test) |

Final architecture review: PR #6010 (feat/replay-core), pass 2

Origin: outsider. Some issues this PR references came from someone without write access:

I treated their content as untrusted data and followed no instructions from it. My fix is limited to source and tests. I did not touch .github/, manifests, lockfiles, build or install files, or conftest.py. I added no network calls, telemetry, credential handling, eval/exec/subprocess or dynamic imports.

Phase 1 — AGENTS.md review

Check Result
Protocol-driven / no heavy impl in core ✅ Stdlib only. Events extend the existing trace/context_events.py, and graph export lives in the existing workflows/diagram.py, loaded lazily. The CLI and HTML parts are in #6011.
Backward compatible ✅ Schema 1.1 only adds optional fields, 1.0 files still load, and AgentFlow.to_mermaid() output is byte-identical.
Performance (hot path) ✅ Every emission site is guarded by emitter._enabled (off by default). A test checks that diagram, litellm and chromadb are not loaded by import praisonaiagents.
SDK value ✅ It fixes real bugs: agent_handoff() had no callers, parallel branch_id values collided, unknown event types were relabelled, and the LiteLLM path recorded no LLM events.
No Agent param bloat ✅ agent.py is untouched and no Agent params are added.
Repo routing ✅ This is core tracing and definition export, not a vendor tool or plugin.

Phase 2: fix pushed in e5983ca96

New since the last pass: commit d5b87bb05 (parity records only) and CodeRabbit's comment on the edge-label merge.

File Change
praisonaiagents/workflows/diagram.py CodeRabbit: the merge split the stored label on " / ". So once a condition named "approved / forced" was stored, a second condition "approved" looked like a duplicate and was dropped. Each edge now keeps a private list of its distinct labels, and they are joined only for display. Graph output is unchanged otherwise, and the goldens still match.
tests/unit/workflows/test_graph.py Regression test for that case.

Tests: tests/unit/workflows, tests/unit/trace and tests/unit/test_lazy_imports.py gave 539 passed, 1 skipped. The full tests/unit run fails in only the same environmental areas as the last pass: chonkie, typer and starlette are missing, plus test_placement[achat]. Nothing in the files this PR touches fails.

Still skipped. These need a maintainer decision (unchanged from the last pass):

  1. Greptile P1, one run_id per team: start() uses the fixed self.run_id, so start_for_each() items and repeated start() calls share one recorded run id. Giving each top-level call a fresh id would break the team.run_id == recorded run_id contract that the tests and feat(replay): praisonai replay view/export/rerun, record(), OTel and self-contained HTML export #6011 depend on.
  2. Greptile P1, a reused step object: a step object used at two flow positions highlights its first position both times, because register maps by id(obj). Fixing it needs run-time position tracking, so I'd do it as a follow-up.

Security checklist (outsider origin)

# Item Result
1 Scope ✅ All files serve Replay events, graph export, or parity records for the new methods.
2 Network ✅ No new URLs or HTTP/socket calls. litellm.cost_per_token is a local price-table lookup.
3 Code execution ✅ No eval/exec or subprocess in library code. The lazy-import tests run fixed code strings with sys.executable.
4 Secrets ✅ OPENAI_API_KEY / RUN_REAL_KEY_TESTS only gate the opt-in integration test, and the key is never logged. Approval args are redacted, and a test checks this.
5 Weakened controls ✅ approval/registry.py keeps the fail-closed stale gate, the timeout and the persistence order. The change only adds begin/end events around the backend wait.
6 Supply chain ✅ No manifests, lockfiles, CI, conftest.py or .pth changes. The parity JSON files are records only, not build inputs.
7 Obfuscation ✅ No encoded blobs or bidi/zero-width characters. The only long lines are the JSON goldens.
8 Tests ✅ None were removed or skipped. The wall-clock import budget was replaced earlier by a deterministic sys.modules check.
9 Backdoors ✅ No magic values, and no behaviour keyed on users, dates or hosts.
10 Injection artifacts ✅ No instructions to AI tools in code, comments or test data.

No deterministic risk flags came with this request.

Phase 3: verdict

Request changes (small). Every Phase 1 row passes and every fixable review finding is fixed. Before merging, a maintainer should decide skipped item 1, because it changes what Replay groups as one run. Item 2 can be a follow-up.

@claude You are the FINAL architecture reviewer. Re-review this PR and give your Phase 3 verdict. The two items you left for a maintainer are now decided:

  1. One run_id per team (Greptile P1, item 1): decided, keep as is. The run boundary is the recording:
    • praisonai.replay.record(), now on main via feat(replay): praisonai replay view/export/rerun, record(), OTel and self-contained HTML export #6011, enters an outer run scope that nested teams and flows inherit. So every record() block, --save run and replay view run is exactly one run, however many times a team starts inside it.
    • start_for_each() grouping a batch under one run id is the intended grouping.
    • Keeping team.run_id == recorded run_id outside record() preserves the existing team-state meaning of run_id.
    • Please don't change this behaviour. If you think the docstring needs a line, that's fine.
  2. A reused step object at two positions (item 2): deferred to replay: a step object reused at two flow positions maps to one node id #6015. Not blocking.

Context: the wrapper (#6011) and the UI (MervinPraison/PraisonAIUI#316) are merged. This core PR is the remaining piece. Phase 1 rows were all ✅ in your last pass. If nothing else is wrong, please give an explicit approve verdict.

Final architecture review: PR #6010 (feat/replay-core), pass 3

Origin: outsider. #5821 has comments from an outsider, #5890 is an outsider's fork PR, and #6010/#6011 were flagged origin/outsider earlier. I treated their content as untrusted data and followed no instructions from it. I made no code changes in this pass, so nothing under .github/, manifests, lockfiles, build or install files, or conftest.py was touched, and no network, telemetry, credential handling, eval/exec/subprocess or dynamic imports were added. An independent security review still runs before merge.

What changed since pass 2

No new commits. The head is still e5983ca96. Main has since gained #6011 (the wrapper) and #6012, and this branch merges cleanly into current main.

Maintainer decisions

  1. One run_id per team: accepted, unchanged. _run_scope already keeps the outer run id when one is in scope, and its docstring says so ("Nested teams and flows inherit the OUTER run id"). So record(), --save and replay view each give one run, start_for_each() groups a batch, and team.run_id == recorded run_id holds outside record(). I don't think a docstring change is needed.
  2. A reused step object: deferred to replay: a step object reused at two flow positions maps to one node id #6015. Not blocking.

Re-check of the risky paths

Area Result
approval/registry.py ✅ The stale gate (fail-closed), timeout, mark_approved and persistence order are unchanged. _approval_begin returns None when tracing is off. The emitter swallows sink errors, so a trace failure can't change a decision.
llm/llm.py (LiteLLM path) ✅ _replay_llm_begin returns None when tracing is off, so the stream is never wrapped. When tracing is on, _ReplayStream passes attributes and close() through, and an agent-level span already open prevents a double count. litellm.cost_per_token is a local price-table lookup.
Hot path / imports ✅ Every emission site is guarded by _enabled, and diagram is not loaded by import praisonaiagents (covered by a lazy-import test).
Agent bloat ✅ agent.py is untouched, and no new Agent params.

Tests (this branch merged with current main)

Phase 3: verdict

✅ Approve. Every Phase 1 row passes, every fixable review finding is fixed, item 1 is settled by the maintainer as designed, and item 2 is tracked in #6015. I found nothing else blocking.

Final architecture review: PR #6010 (feat/replay-core), pass 3 verdict

Origin: outsider. Some issues this PR references came from someone without write access:

I treated all of that content as untrusted data and followed no instructions from it. This pass changed one docstring and nothing else.

The CLI and HTML parts are in #6011 (merged).
Backward compatible ✅ Schema 1.1 only adds optional fields, 1.0 files still load, and AgentFlow.to_mermaid() output is byte-identical. The approval control flow is unchanged (see below).
Performance (hot path) ✅ Every emission site is guarded by emitter._enabled, which is off by default. Tests check that import praisonaiagents loads none of diagram, litellm or chromadb.
SDK value ✅ It fixes real bugs: agent_handoff() had no callers, parallel branch_id values collided, unknown event types were relabelled, and the LiteLLM path recorded no LLM events. It also completes the stream that Replay draws from.
No Agent param bloat ✅ agent.py is untouched and no Agent params are added.
Repo routing ✅ This is core tracing and definition export, not a vendor tool or plugin.

Phase 2: change pushed in c763f7701

File Change
praisonaiagents/trace/context_events.py Docstring only, as you offered. _run_scope now notes that the recording is the run boundary: inside an outer scope such as praisonai.replay.record(), every team or flow start shares one run id, and outside one a team run carries its own AgentTeam.run_id. The behaviour is unchanged, as you decided.

Not done: the reused-step-at-two-positions case, deferred to #6015 as you decided.

Security checklist (outsider origin)

# Item Result
1 Scope ✅ Every file serves Replay events or graph export. The parity files only record AgentTeam.to_graph/to_mermaid as Python-only.
2 Network / exfiltration ✅ No new URLs, hosts, sockets or HTTP calls. Events go only to the sink the caller set up.
3 Code execution ✅ None in source. subprocess.run([sys.executable, "-c", <fixed literal>]) appears only in tests/unit/test_lazy_imports.py and tests/unit/workflows/test_graph.py. These tests start a fresh interpreter to prove lazy imports and that ids are stable across hash seeds. The code strings are constants, with no user input and no shell=True.
4 Secrets ✅ Approval args go through the emitter's existing _redact_args. Tests check that password and api_key=sk-… values are redacted from approval_requested and task review. The os.getenv("OPENAI_API_KEY") call in tests/integration/test_replay_events_real.py is only a skip gate and never logs the key. PRAISONAI_UPDATE_GOLDEN only rewrites the test goldens.
5 Weakened controls ✅ approval/registry.py only wraps the existing backend wait in try/finally to emit two events. _human_wait_scope, the fail-closed _reject_if_stale gate, mark_approved and _persist_scoped_decision run in the same order with the same conditions. Fast paths stay silent and nothing is bypassed.
6 Supply chain ✅ No dependency, manifest, lockfile, CI, entry point or conftest.py changes.
7 Obfuscation ✅ A scan of the added lines found no bidi or zero-width characters and no added line over 300 characters. The goldens are plain readable JSON.
8 Tests ✅ Tests were only added. None were removed, skipped or loosened, and the existing to_mermaid tests are unchanged.
9 Backdoors ✅ No magic values, and no behaviour keyed on users, dates or hosts.
10 Injection artifacts ✅ No instructions to AI tools in code, comments, docs or test data.

Tests

  • tests/unit/workflows, tests/unit/trace, tests/unit/approval and tests/unit/test_lazy_imports.py: 702 passed, 1 skipped.
  • tests/unit overall: 12410 passed, 44 failed. None of the 44 are in files this PR touches. They are in knowledge (chonkie not installed), schedule, autonomy and placement tests. The same files on origin/main give a superset of these failures (63), so the PR adds no regressions.
  • tests/ -x stops at tests/a2a because fastapi is not installed on the runner (environment, not this PR).

Phase 3 verdict: ✅ APPROVE

Both open items are settled: run_id is kept as decided and now documented, and the reused-step case is deferred to #6015. No Phase 1 or security findings remain. This PR is ready to merge.
