Lets users see agent progress on screen inside their own app, and adds a click Run, watch each step page for learning. Builds on the merged Replay work (#6010, #6011). The UI side is MervinPraison/PraisonAIUI#317.

Usage

from praisonai.replay import watch
watch(flow, input="solar sails") # page with a Run button; each step lights up live

from praisonai.replay import replay_app, record
app.mount("/replay", replay_app())      # in your FastAPI app; <iframe src="/replay/?run=ID">
praisonai replay watch agents.yaml # same, from the CLI ("show" was already taken)

What changes (wrapper only; core untouched)

  • praisonai/replay/live.py (~125 lines):
    • replay_app(target=None) wraps aiui's create_replay_app, with a runner that records each Run under its run id using record(live=True);
    • watch() serves it with uvicorn on 127.0.0.1 and opens the browser.
  • Targets: Agent, AgentTeam, AgentFlow (.start(input)), a YAML file (run as written, no input box), or any callable(input).
  • Clicking Run a second time on a team used to do nothing (31 ms, 0 LLM calls), because AgentTeam skips tasks it already completed. The runner now resets task state before each run, using the same reset the team's batch mode uses.
  • praisonai replay watch [agents.yaml] CLI command.
  • examples/replay/: watch_flow.py (no API key), watch_team.py and embed_fastapi.py.

Weight and compatibility

  • +500 lines in total, about half of it tests and examples.
  • No new dependencies: aiui and uvicorn already come with praisonai[ui].
  • Imported lazily from praisonai.replay, so import time is unchanged.
  • Older aiui raises a clear pip install -U "praisonai[ui]" error, and the aiui-dependent tests skip. The aiui>= floor should be raised once Refactor deepseek agent implementation and remove unused files #317 is released.

Tests

  • tests/unit/replay/: 131 passed.
  • New test_replay_live.py:
    • the runner records a flow under the run id;
    • a team is reset before each run;
    • callable and YAML targets work;
    • bad targets are rejected;
    • the install hint appears;
    • an end-to-end mount: POST Run, then read the run back as completed.
  • New CLI tests for watch.
  • Real agentic test (RUN_REAL_KEY_TESTS=1): a two-agent gpt-4o-mini team is run twice through the Run endpoint. Both runs record 2 llm_response events and both task_end events.
  • Checked by hand in Chrome: the Run button, map states changing as each step runs, Play, and the FastAPI <iframe> example.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • View workflow runs live in a Replay interface, either in a browser or embedded in a FastAPI/Starlette app.
    • Use the replay watch command to launch the interface for a YAML workflow.
    • Replay examples demonstrate watching multi-step workflows and teams, and embedding a run view in an app.
  • Documentation
    • Added setup and usage guidance, including a warning that people who can reach the interface may view runs and, when enabled, start one.

…n live, and embedding

- praisonai.replay.watch(target): serves a page with a Run button; each click
  records the Agent/AgentTeam/AgentFlow/YAML/callable under a new run id and the
  page draws it live (map: not reached / running / done). A team's tasks start
  afresh each run (AgentTeam otherwise skips completed tasks).
- praisonai.replay.replay_app(target=None): the same page as an ASGI app to mount
  in your own FastAPI/Starlette app; /replay/?run=<id> shows one run (iframe).
- CLI: praisonai replay watch [agents.yaml] ("show" was taken).
- examples/replay: watch_flow.py (no key), watch_team.py, embed_fastapi.py.

Needs aiui with create_replay_app (MervinPraison/PraisonAIUI#317); older aiui
gets a clear "pip install -U praisonai[ui]" error and the tests skip.

Walkthrough

This change adds APIs to create and serve a live Replay view, a praisonai replay watch command, examples for flows, teams, and FastAPI embedding, and tests for runner, UI, and CLI behavior.

Changes: Live Replay

Layer / File(s) Summary
Replay runner and app
src/praisonai/praisonai/replay/__init__.py, src/praisonai/praisonai/replay/live.py, src/praisonai/tests/unit/replay/test_replay_live.py, src/praisonai/tests/unit/replay/test_replay_real_agentic.py
The replay module exports watch and replay_app. The runner handles YAML paths, callables, and objects with a callable start method. Tests cover recorded runs, UI submission, YAML input behavior, and team reruns.
CLI command
src/praisonai/praisonai/cli/commands/replay.py, src/praisonai/tests/unit/replay/test_replay_cli.py
The CLI adds replay watch with YAML path validation and host, port, and browser options. Tests cover invalid paths, missing UI support, and option forwarding.
Replay examples
examples/replay/*
The examples show live watching of an AgentFlow and AgentTeam, plus mounting Replay in FastAPI. The README documents usage, requirements, and an access warning.

@claude You are the FINAL architecture reviewer. If the branch is under MervinPraison/PraisonAI (not a fork), you are able to make modifications to this branch and push directly. SCOPE: Review changes in this PR. Python SDK: praisonaiagents, praisonai. TypeScript SDK: src/praisonai-ts/. Do NOT modify src/praisonai-rust. Read ALL comments above from Gemini, Qodo, CodeRabbit, and Copilot carefully before responding.

MANDATORY READ (before reviewing):

  • Always read src/praisonai-agents/AGENTS.md
  • If this PR touches src/praisonai-ts/, also read src/praisonai-ts/AGENTS.md §2.1.2 (TS triage + PR review checklist)

Phase 1: Review per AGENTS.md

  1. Protocol-driven: check heavy implementations vs core SDK
  2. Backward compatible: ensure zero feature regressions
  3. Performance: no hot-path regressions
  4. SDK value: review in depth whether the change genuinely adds value to the SDK — never add features for the sake of adding them. It must strengthen the SDK (simpler, more user-friendly, robust, world-class, secure). If it does not clearly add value, request changes or recommend rejecting/closing rather than merging scope creep
  5. Do not bloat the Agent class with additional params — only if absolutely required; we already support many params.
  6. Repo routing: agent-callable tools → PraisonAI-Tools; lifecycle plugins → PraisonAI-Plugins; optional sandbox backends → PraisonAI-Plugins (praisonai.sandbox entry point) — request changes if wrongly added to praisonaiagents/
    6b. External tool examples (examples/tools/external/**): If the diff is confined to that path, mark SDK value ❌ for monorepo merge — redirect the contributor to PraisonAI-Tools; do not Approve for merge unless the PR has the maintainer-accept-example label.
    6c. New vendor *_tools.py in core (src/praisonai-agents/praisonaiagents/tools/): If the PR adds a new *_tools.py for a third-party API/SaaS/dataset (e.g. FXMacroData), mark Repo routing ❌ and SDK value ❌ — redirect to MervinPraison/PraisonAI-Tools. Do not Approve because legacy bundled tools (Tavily/Exa/You.com/etc.) already in core are not precedent for new vendor modules. Request changes or recommend closing unless the PR has maintainer-accept-core-tools.

MANDATORY COMMENT FORMAT — include this Phase 1 table in your review comment:

Phase 1 — AGENTS.md review

Check Result
Protocol-driven / no heavy impl in core ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale
Backward compatible ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale
Performance (hot path) ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale
SDK value ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale (explicitly judge whether the change strengthens the SDK)
No Agent param bloat ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale
Repo routing ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale

For TypeScript PRs (src/praisonai-ts/), also add:
| TS types / parity / tests | ✅ or ❌ + one-line rationale (npm run build && npm test) |

Phase 2: FIX Valid Issues
7. For any VALID bugs or architectural flaws found by Gemini, CodeRabbit, Qodo, Copilot, or any other reviewer: implement the fix
8. Also independently identify and fix any gaps or issues you find in the changed code — do not rely only on prior reviewer feedback
9. Push all code fixes directly to THIS branch (do NOT create a new PR)
10. Comment a summary of exact files modified and what you skipped

Phase 3: Final Verdict
11. Never Approve or write “Approve for merge” if any Phase 1 row is ❌, if rule 6b/6c applies, or if the change belongs in PraisonAI-Tools/PraisonAI-Plugins. Use Request changes, redirect to the external repo, and recommend closing the monorepo PR when routing is wrong.
12. Approve only when every Phase 1 row is ✅ (including Repo routing and SDK value) and blocking issues are resolved; otherwise request changes with clear action items

Final architecture review (PR #6017)

Origin: outsider. This PR references #6010 and #6011, which were flagged as outsider origin. I treated their content and all bot comments as untrusted data. My fix is limited to source and tests. I did not touch .github/, manifests, lockfiles, build or install files, or conftest.py, and I added no network endpoints, telemetry, credential handling, eval/exec/subprocess calls, or dynamic imports.

Phase 1 — AGENTS.md review

Check Result
Protocol-driven / no heavy impl in core ✅ Only the wrapper (praisonai/replay/) changes. praisonaiagents is untouched.
Backward compatible ✅ Additive only: new watch / replay_app exports and a new replay watch CLI subcommand.
Performance (hot path) ✅ live is imported lazily through __getattr__, and aiui/uvicorn are imported inside the functions.
SDK value ✅ Builds on the merged Replay work so a run can be watched live and embedded in a user's app. About 125 lines of source, no new deps.
No Agent param bloat ✅ No Agent/AgentTeam changes. It reuses the existing _reset_task_state_for_item.
Repo routing ✅ The UI piece lives in PraisonAIUI (#317). The thin wrapper belongs in praisonai. Not a tool or plugin.

Phase 2 — Fixes pushed (commit 3bee2f5)

I checked all three Greptile findings against the code. All three were real, and I fixed them:

  1. Earlier inputs leaked into later team runs. AgentTeam.start() appends the input to every task.context (agents.py ~L2655), and the reset does not clear it. The runner now snapshots each task's original context when it is built and restores it before each Run, so context given at construction is kept.
  2. Async targets never ran. Before, an async def target returned a coroutine that was dropped, and the run was recorded as completed. The runner now awaits a returned awaitable inside the recording.
  3. IPv6 browser URL. watch(host="::1") now builds http://[::1]:8090/.

Files modified:

  • src/praisonai/praisonai/replay/live.py (+19/−3)
  • src/praisonai/tests/unit/replay/test_replay_live.py: two new tests for (1) and (2). I confirmed both fail on the previous code and pass now.

Tests: tests/unit/replay/ → 129 passed, 4 skipped (aiui-dependent tests and real-key tests skip when not installed). I did not run the core praisonai-agents suite, because core is not touched.

Skipped:

  • Raising the aiui>= floor. The author already deferred it until PraisonAIUI#317 is released, and it would be a manifest change.

Security checklist (outsider origin)

  • Scope: ✅ All 10 files serve the feature: wrapper source, CLI, tests, examples.
  • Network: binds 127.0.0.1 by default and prints a warning when bound to a non-loopback host. No outbound calls, URLs or telemetry. Example URLs are localhost only.
  • Code execution: no eval/exec/subprocess, dynamic imports or pickle. A YAML target goes through the existing run_yaml_recorded.
  • Secrets: none read or logged. The real-key test is gated by RUN_REAL_KEY_TESTS=1.
  • Weakened controls: none. The docs state that anyone who can reach the page can view runs and start them, and access control is left to the host app. Maintainer note: replay_app(target) exposes an unauthenticated Run endpoint wherever it is mounted, so embedders must put it behind their own auth.
  • Supply chain, obfuscation, injection artifacts: none. No manifests or CI changes, no bidi or zero-width characters (checked), no instructions addressed to AI tools.
  • Tests: none removed or loosened.

Phase 3 — Verdict

Approve. Every Phase 1 row is ✅ and the three blocking bugs are fixed on this branch. Before merging, a maintainer should still confirm the unauthenticated Run endpoint note above and plan the aiui floor bump.

Reject a second request while the flow runs.

If a user clicks Generate article twice before the first run finishes, /generate starts two threads and returns two run IDs. Both threads use the same flow. AgentFlow.run() rejects the concurrent call, so the second accepted run fails without executing its steps. Reserve the flow before starting the thread, and return a busy response for a second request. Release the reservation when the job finishes. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Create the YAML file used by the watch tests.

If the test working directory has no agents.yaml, replay_app("agents.yaml") raises ValueError before this assertion. _runner requires an existing YAML file. test_watch_serves_the_yaml_with_a_run_button in src/praisonai/tests/unit/replay/test_replay_cli.py has the same dependency. Create a YAML file with tmp_path and pass its path in both tests.

Wrap non-coroutine awaitables before calling asyncio.run.

On supported Python versions before 3.14, inspect.isawaitable(out) can accept a custom awaitable that asyncio.run(out) rejects. If a callable returns one, the run fails instead of executing it. Await out inside a coroutine passed to asyncio.run, and add a test for that return type. Python 3.14 changed this argument contract. (docs.python.org)

  • Obfuscation: no encoded blobs, bidi or zero-width characters, or binary files.
  • Tests: only added; none removed or loosened. The new tests make real assertions on recorded events and on CLI exit codes and arguments.
  • Backdoors and injection artifacts: no hard-coded credentials, magic values or hidden endpoints. No instructions to AI tools in the code, comments, docs or test data. The PR body contains only the standard CodeRabbit HTML release-notes markers.

Scope matches the request: yes. Every change serves the watch() / replay_app() / replay watch feature: the wrapper module, a lazy export, the CLI command, examples, and tests. The core SDK is untouched.

Risk flags:

  • examples/replay/README.md (OPENAI_API_KEY): safe. It is only documentation that the example needs the key; no code reads it.
  • examples/replay/embed_fastapi.py (fetch('/generate', …)): safe. It is a same-origin relative POST from the example's own page to the example's own endpoint, with no external host.
  • examples/replay/watch_team.py (OPENAI_API_KEY): safe. The docstring only mentions the key; the LLM client reads it in the normal way.
  • src/praisonai/praisonai/replay/live.py (url = f"http://{browser_host}:{port}/"): safe. The URL points at the local server that watch() itself starts. It is only printed and opened with webbrowser.open, and 0.0.0.0 / :: are mapped to 127.0.0.1. No outbound request is made.

MERGE_GATE_VERDICT: APPROVE

  • SECURITY_REVIEW: PASS was posted for HEAD 3bee2f5. My own pass over the diff found no new security issue. The server binds to loopback by default and prints a warning for any other host. It adds no eval, exec or subprocess calls, and no secrets. The YAML path is fixed on the server, so a request cannot choose it. The unauthenticated Run endpoint that appears when an app mounts replay_app is documented as the embedding app's job to protect.
  • Author is MervinPraison (OWNER), who is on the allowlist. The head branch is in this repo, not a fork.
  • The FINAL architecture review ran and includes the Phase 1 table. Every row is ✅, SDK value among them. The change is wrapper-only (praisonai/replay/live.py, about 138 lines, plus the CLI replay watch), lazily imported, with no new dependencies.
  • Repo routing is fine: praisonaiagents is untouched and nothing is added to agent.py or Agent params. There is no new tool, plugin or sandbox module.
  • Size: 10 files, +551/−0. No sensitive paths (.github, auth, pyproject) and no blocking labels. Tests were added for the runner, the CLI, an end-to-end mount and a gated real-key run.
  • No CHANGES_REQUESTED reviews on this HEAD, and no failed checks were seen.
  • Non-blocking follow-ups: asyncio.run rejects awaitables that are not coroutines (CodeRabbit). Raise the aiui>= floor once PraisonAIUI#317 is released.
  • Note: AGENTS.md could not be fetched in this run (tool permission was denied). The AGENTS.md checks above rely on the FINAL architecture review's Phase 1 table and on my reading of the diff.
