fix(sdk,plugins): an @App's Skilled OpenAPI credential resolver reaches execute_action and this.callTool() of an operation - #1120
A SkilledOpenApiCredentialResolver can be declared in three places: SkilledOpenApiPlugin.init({ providers }), the @App({ providers }) that installs the plugin, and @FrontMcp({ providers }). The nearest one wins. run_workflow honored all three.
When the plugin was installed in an @App that declared the resolver, two paths still got the built-in resolver, which reads credentials, or the server's resolver:
execute_action, which runs an action through its operation tool;
server code that calls an operation tool with this.callTool('<bundleId>.<operationId>').
The cause: the plugin built its operation tools on the scope's providers, which don't include the app's. The plugin's own tools, such as run_workflow, are built on the plugin's providers, which resolve through the plugin, then the app, then the server.
The fix:
SDK: a provider factory can now inject ProviderRegistry. It gets the registry that builds it. For a GLOBAL provider, that's the registry that declares it, so a plugin's provider gets the plugin's own providers. This is two one-line checks in ProviderRegistry: one for GLOBAL factories, one for CONTEXT factories built from views. Before this change, injecting ProviderRegistry built a new, empty registry.
Plugin: the bundle-sync provider injects the plugin's providers and builds the operation tools on them. This also removes a cast of scope.providers to ProviderRegistry. The operation tools now resolve their providers exactly as run_workflow does, at all three levels, including on a splitByApp server.
Scenarios covered: F3 (a custom resolver, such as a vault) and E6 (execute_action through the operation tool).
User-facing change
What changed:
With the plugin installed in an @App, execute_action and this.callTool('<bundleId>.<operationId>') now use the resolver that app declares, as run_workflow does.
A provider factory can inject ProviderRegistry to get the providers it is built in.
Before → after:
An @App({ providers }) resolver reached run_workflow only. The operation tools got the server's resolver or the built-in one, which reads credentials. → All three paths use the nearest resolver: init({ providers }), then the app's, then the server's, then the built-in one.
inject: () => [ProviderRegistry] gave a new, empty registry. → It gives the registry that builds the provider. For a plugin's GLOBAL provider, that's the plugin's own providers.
frontmcp.dev pages affected (if known): the Skilled OpenAPI plugin page (credentials section), and the plugin authoring and providers pages (factory inject).
Skills catalog entries updated:
frontmcp-development/references/create-plugin.md: injecting ProviderRegistry, and building a runtime tool on the plugin's providers.
frontmcp-development/references/openapi-adapter.md: where the resolver can be declared, and that it answers all three paths.
The plugin README no longer documents the limit.
Tests
Added:
plugin-registration.integration.spec.ts, in a real server, checking the authorization header that run_workflow, execute_action and a server tool's this.callTool() each send:
the plugin in an @App that declares the resolver: all three use it (this failed before the fix);
the same on a splitByApp server (this failed before the fix);
the app's resolver over the server's, when another app's tool calls the operation (this failed before the fix);
init({ providers }) over the app's;
init({ providers }) and @FrontMcp({ providers }) on a server-level plugin, and the built-in resolver when none is declared, now on all three paths.
plugin.spec.ts: the operation tools are built on the providers the bundle-sync factory gets.
provider.registry.spec.ts: a GLOBAL factory that injects ProviderRegistry gets the registry that declares it, which resolves through its parent; a CONTEXT factory gets the registry that builds it.
E2E app-resolver.e2e.spec.ts, with a new entrypoint that installs the plugin and its resolver in an @App, and nothing on the server: run_workflow and execute_action both send the token the resolver reads (this failed before the fix).

Bug Fixes
Credential resolver settings now apply consistently to workflows, actions, and operation tools, following provider precedence across plugin, app, and server configuration.
Provider factories receive the registry associated with their provider, allowing runtime-created tools to resolve providers through the plugin, installing app, and server.
Documentation
Updated plugin and OpenAPI guidance to explain provider and credential resolver behavior.
…es execute_action and this.callTool() of an operation
With the plugin installed in an @app that declares SkilledOpenApiCredentialResolver, run_workflow used the app's
resolver, but execute_action and server code calling an operation tool with this.callTool('<bundleId>.<operationId>')
got the server's resolver, or the built-in one that reads credentials. The operation tools were built on the scope's
providers, which don't include the app's.
A provider factory can now inject ProviderRegistry: it gets the registry that builds it, which for a GLOBAL provider
is the one that declares it. Injecting it used to build a new, empty registry. The plugin's bundle-sync provider
injects the plugin's own providers and builds the operation tools on them, so they resolve the resolver as
run_workflow does: init({ providers }), then the app's, then the server's, then the built-in one.
The e2e app gains an entrypoint with the plugin and its resolver in an @app. The browser bundle budgets take the 44
bytes of the two checks.
The SDK now injects the active ProviderRegistry into factories. Skilled OpenAPI operation tools use the plugin registry, and tests cover credential resolver selection across workflow, action, and tool calls. The e2e bundle size limits each increase by 44 bytes.
BundleSyncService passes the plugin’s registry to OperationToolFactory. Unit tests verify that operation tools receive plugin providers. The guide describes provider resolution through plugin, app, and server providers.
Integration tests cover resolver selection for workflow, action, and operation-tool calls, including plugin, app, and server provider precedence. The e2e app configures an app-level resolver and checks workflow and action results and authorization headers. Documentation describes the resolver configuration and call paths.

A plugin using a separate SDK copy may fail when it injects the provider registry. Make that injection work across SDK copies before merging, unless this compatibility risk is explicitly accepted.

Explanation
The title names the main change: an @App's Skilled OpenAPI credential resolver now reaches execute_action and this.callTool() for an operation. The changeset does this. It adds ProviderRegistry injection in the SDK and passes the plugin's providers to the operation tool factory, with tests for all three call paths. The title is specific and fits the scope, and the fix(sdk,plugins) prefix matches the touched packages. It is a little long at 122 characters, but it is still clear.
