docs: Composer pages ask prisma dev url for local URLs, and the CLI reference covers dev url, dev stop, --detach and emulator list - #8545

…list; piped output is plain data Composer 0.32 and the prisma release after 8.0.0-rc.23 add `prisma dev url`, `prisma dev stop`, `prisma dev --detach` and `prisma emulator list`, keep local services, databases and buckets per directory, and stop Postgres servers when `prisma dev` ends. The CLI also writes plain data lines to a piped stdout; JSON needs --json. - cli/dev: url and stop subcommands, --detach, the DEV.* failure codes. - cli/emulator: new reference page, registered in cli/meta.json. - cli/global-flags, cli/configuration: a pipe gets data lines, not JSON. - composer/getting-started: verify with curl "$(npx prisma dev url gateway)" from a second terminal instead of hard-coded ports. - composer/local-development: ports, dev url, --detach, dev stop, per-directory isolation, --fresh, emulator list; the log example passes config, which the log operation requires; drop the --fresh and stale-endpoint caveats Composer no longer has. - Guides and prompts that hard-coded local Composer ports or ran dev in the background now use dev url, --detach and dev stop; docker and turborepo no longer say the CLI prints JSON without a terminal. …ing-started output
prisma 8.0.0-rc.24 is npm latest and depends on @prisma/cli-engine 0.9.0,
which `prisma orm init` now installs. Bump the pins lint:versions checks.
Following composer/getting-started with the published rc.24 showed that, in
a terminal, `curl "$(npx prisma dev url gateway)"` also prints dev url's
own line ("✔ The service gateway is running at ...") above the response,
so the expected output now shows it, and the 401 probe shows its response.

…ame the Prisma 7 server to stop Checked against prisma 8.0.0-rc.24: `contract print` writes its PSL to standard output and `contract emit` writes the paths it emitted, while `migration list`, `migration status` and `contract format` write nothing. global-flags now says that instead of "no Prisma ORM command writes data lines", and contract-print drops the `--format human` row (human is the default) and shows redirecting the PSL to a file. Prisma 7's `dev stop` takes a server name; the detached server on the local Postgres page runs as `default`. The Composer getting-started page stops guessing local ports:
That output is from following the page as written against the published
prisma@8.0.0-rc.24.What this PR changes
prisma dev urlinstead of hard-coded ports, and document the new local-dev commands.prisma dev url, prisma dev stopandprisma dev --detach, and gains a page forprisma emulator.prismacommand prints JSON now say it prints plain data, and that JSON needs--json.8.0.0-rc.23as the current release now name8.0.0-rc.24.Why
prisma devruns a Composer app on local stand-ins for Prisma Cloud, called emulators. It gives services the lowest free ports from 3000. Solocalhost:3001is right only when nothing else holds those ports, and only when the services start in a particular order.prisma@8.0.0-rc.24adds commands that report where things are running, so the docs can stop guessing. The new commands
prisma@8.0.0-rc.24ships four, which come from Composer 0.32.0:prisma dev url <address>prints where one part of the app answers: a service's URL, a database's connection string, or a bucket's S3 address. Piped, it prints the bare URL, so$(…)works.prisma dev --detachstarts the app, waits until every service answers, and returns, leaving the app running.prisma dev stopstops the app. Its data and ports are kept.prisma emulator listshows everything the local emulators run on this machine. The release also changes the whole CLI. A piped
prismacommand used to print JSON frames. Now it prints the command's plain data, and--jsongives the structured result.Pages
composer/getting-started.mdx: step 6 verifies from a second terminal withcurl "$(npx prisma dev url gateway)". The 401 example reachesquotesthe same way. In a terminal, dev urlprints a confirmation line on stderr above curl's output, and the page shows that line too.composer/local-development.mdx: rewritten to match Composer's own running-locally guide. It covers ports and how a service keeps its port across restarts, dev url,--detach,dev stop, each directory getting its own services and data, what--freshdeletes, andemulator list. It also fixes the logs example, which was missing theconfiginput thelogoperation requires, and drops two caveats Composer no longer has.cli/dev.mdxand the newcli/emulator.mdx: the commands, flags, piped and--jsonoutput, and the fourDEV.*errors.emulatoris registered incli/meta.json.cli/global-flags.mdxandcli/configuration.mdx: what a pipe gets for a list, a single value, and a command with nothing to print. They note thatdeployand the ORM commands don't print plain data to a pipe yet, and that rc.23 and earlier gave a pipe JSON.(index)/full-stack-tutorial,(index)/prisma-compute/deployandguides/compute/astro-marketing-siteuseprisma dev url. The Astro guide also showed a stale JSON frame, replaced with the real output.(index)/indexandcomposer/porting-an-appuse--detach,dev urlanddev stop.guides/deployment/dockerandguides/deployment/turborepono longer show JSON where a pipe now gets plain output.local-development/postgres.mdx: the Prisma 7prisma dev lsandprisma dev stopmentions now readnpx prisma@7 …, becauseprisma dev stopmeans something different in Prisma 8.orm/release-status,from-scratch,solid-startandupgrade-prisma-orm/postgresqlname rc.24.prisma orm initoutput now show@prisma/cli-engine@0.9.0, which is what rc.24 installs.Testing performed
npx prisma@8.0.0-rc.24, throughprisma dev,dev url, curl, the 401 probe, a rebuild andprisma dev stop. The page now matches what the published package prints.dev url(plain, piped and--json),--detach,dev stop, emulator listand the errors.pnpm check(docs; unrelated formatter changes reverted),pnpm types:check, pnpm lint:links(0 errors),lint:versions, cspell (0 issues), andlint:agent-ready(0 failures). Two reader-review passes were made on the new text.pnpm build, which fetches the OpenAPI spec over the network.Alternatives considered
prisma dev --detachon the getting-started page, so the reader needs only one terminal. That's simpler, but the page's flow teaches the foreground watch loop (rebuild, restart), which--detachdoesn't run.--detachis documented on the local-development page instead.Agent: attila-51
