The docstring coverage warning is addressed in 0e8b1a8 and 961df9d. The changed reader functions, conversation helpers, test helper, and demo route now have JSDoc. A local TypeScript AST audit against upstream c07a810 finds 24 changed named functions, all 24 documented, with none missing. CodeRabbit's recalculation for the pushed head is pending. Both actionable CodeRabbit comments are fixed with regression tests. The final Fast checks pass with 1,873 tests, six skips, and zero failures. All 294 integration tests passed, followed by 38 passing pending-input and Hermes contract tests after the latest upstream merge. The full browser lane still fails at All 16 browser scripts after |

Maintainer-side review and test run. This is a feature PR, so it stays open for the owner's decision; nothing below is a condition.
What it does
A Hermes pane's chat is read from Hermes' own state.db (read-only bun:sqlite): user turns, assistant text, reasoning, tool calls matched to their results, model and reasoning metadata, paging with generation-scoped cursors, and the full-output endpoint. The session comes from herdr's agent-session report, else from Hermes' per-terminal breadcrumb (~/.hermes/terminal-sessions/tty-…). Two shared changes affect every agent: .markdown p { white-space: pre-wrap } (src/components/ChatView.css), and a code summary in toolSummary (server/transcript-records.ts:161).
Conflicts with main
Six files conflict against main b82584d: CHANGELOG.md, README.md, docs/guide.md, server/conversation.ts, shared/protocol.ts and site/demo/transport.ts. Devin (#438) and OpenCode (#543) readers landed in the same places. I resolved them locally as unions (not pushed): the source unions take devin-transcript | opencode-transcript | hermes-transcript, the onNotStarted helper sits after the Devin block, and ResolvedTranscript's stream variant needs sessionId?: string for resolved.sessionId to typecheck. Typecheck passes on that resolution.
What I ran (head 2c597b4 merged locally with main b82584d)
bun run check fast: 1 failure.server/hermes.test.ts:296("returns the newest page after appends and fills the gap back to the held start") hit bun's 5 s timeout; everything else passed (1945 pass). Run alone it passes, but takes 3.7 s (see findings).server/hermes.contract.test.tsthroughbun run check run: 4 pass.- A real Hermes. Hermes Agent v0.21.5 (2026.9.24), driven by a local OpenAI-compatible stub model in a temporary
HERMES_HOME. The stub asks for oneterminalls, then answers. Hermes wrote the session itself. Itsmessagesandsessionstables carry every column the reader queries (active,compacted,reasoning,model_config, …).hermesConversationPageon that store returned the right shape: the user turn, then one assistant turn withthinking(fromreasoning), theterminaltool summarized aslswith its result, and the final text; modelstub-model, effortnull. - The real client, end to end. Interactive
hermes --yoloin a pane of an isolated herdr 0.9.3 (bun run check run), with no herdr Hermes integration installed:- herdr labeled the pane
agent: "hermes"from the process (namehermes; argv ispython3 -I -c …, whichisHermesProcesshandles throughname). - No session report arrived, so the session came from Hermes' own breadcrumb (
terminal-sessions/tty-dev-pts-24). GET /api/pane/conversationreturned200,source: "hermes-transcript", with the turns above.- The chat lens showed the prompt, a
terminal lsrow and the answer on a phone (390 px) and on desktop (1280 px), with no page errors. - One oddity outside this PR: herdr still reported the pane as
workingafter Hermes had answered, so the chat kept showing "Working…" and Stop. That is herdr's status detection for Hermes, not this reader.
- herdr labeled the pane
Findings
- High (resource): one long agent turn is loaded whole on every poll.
server/hermes.ts:161-175,276-280.hermesPageStartwidens the 100-row window back to the turn's user message, and the following query reads every row in between, full tool outputs and reasoning included, before trimming. I reproduced it with one user message plus 2000 tool calls, each with a 50 kB result. One page held all 4001 rows in 2 turns (2001 parts), took 323 ms and added +314 MB RSS. The chat polls this every few seconds while the agent works. Long autonomous Hermes turns are the normal case, and the Devin and OpenCode readers budget their windows. Suggested fix: budget rows and bytes per page (andsubstrlong contents in SQL), or page inside a long exchange. - Medium: a Hermes running with another
HERMES_HOMEis read from the bridge's home.server/conversation.ts(hermesTranscriptForPane(pane, cwd, defaultHermesHome())) andserver/hermes.ts:25-26. A pane started withHERMES_HOME=/other(Hermes profiles) is looked up in the bridge's~/.hermes/state.db. Its session is not found there, sofirstRowis null andConversationNotStartedcomes back: an idle pane shows an empty chat instead of falling back to the terminal. The Codex reader resolves the home per pane for the same reason. - Medium: database errors become HTTP 500, not a fallback.
server/hermes.ts:222-234,276-280. A store missing an optional column (older Hermes, schema drift) throwsno such column: compacted, which I reproduced. A locked or corrupt store fails the same way. OnlyConversationUnavailablefalls back to the terminal. Map other SQLite errors toConversationUnavailable("transcript_missing"), as the Devin reader does. - Medium (CI):
server/hermes.test.ts:277-283commits every fixture row on its own.populate()and the 200-row append at :302 run one autocommit INSERT per row on a file database, which is 350 syncs for this test. It took 3.7 s alone and timed out (5 s) incheck fasthere. Expect it to flake the required check on a busy runner. Wrapping the inserts indb.transaction(...)fixes it. - Low:
nulltool arguments drop the whole call list.server/hermes.ts:341-352.JSON.parse("null")givesinputObj = null, andtoolSummary(name, null)throws inside the array-widetry. Every call in that message then disappears, the valid ones included (reproduced:parts: []). - Low: one bad timestamp fails the whole page.
server/hermes.ts:313.new Date(1e20 * 1000).toISOString()throwsRangeError(reproduced). Guard withNumber.isFinite(date.getTime()). - Low: the shared
toolSummarychange reaches every agent.server/transcript-records.ts:161-162.codenow outranksfile_path,pathand the rest for every reader. A Hermes-onlyexecute_codesummary, or puttingcodelast, would keep the other agents' rows as they are. - Low (visual, all agents):
.markdown p { white-space: pre-wrap }keeps leading spaces and runs of spaces in every agent's paragraphs, not only Hermes'. - Low: tool output is cached as immutable by call id.
server/index.ts:1757answersprivate, max-age=86400, immutablefor any non-OpenCode ref. Hermes refs are provider call ids (call_1from a local model), so a new session in the same pane that reuses an id is served the old session's output from the browser cache. - Low: breadcrumb fallback trusts a stale marker.
server/hermes.ts:76-80. A breadcrumb from an earlier Hermes on the same tty and cwd is accepted, and itstsis not checked. Hermes rewrites it when a session starts, so the window is short. - Info: Hermes'
terminalresult is a JSON envelope ({"output": "notes.txt", "exit_code": 0, "error": null}), shown raw. The error flag only matches output that starts witherror|failed|exception, so a non-zeroexit_codeis never marked as a failed call.
For the owner
- Serious bug fixed? No. This is a new reader (feature), so it stays open.
- Decisions: whether to take a Hermes reader at all (herdr 0.9.3 ships
herdr integration install hermes, which reports the session; without it, identity rests on Hermes' tty breadcrumb); if yes, the page budget (High) and the per-paneHERMES_HOMEare the two I would want before merging; and whether the two cross-agent changes (pre-wrap,toolSummary) should be scoped to Hermes. - Remote PCs: this touches
server/andshared/protocol.ts, so a remote PC needs aREMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSIONbump at release if merged.
Include held page starts and keep tool exchanges together. Hash SQLite snapshot contents so WAL edits change ETags. Reject obsolete cursors after database replacement and read recorded reasoning settings without treating session totals as current context. Read expanded tool output from the selected session database. Document the transcript functions and add regression tests with fictional desktop and phone screenshots.

- Line 3: Update the `.scratch/` guidance in the issue-tracker documentation to

Follow-up to @devswha's maintainer review: the reported Hermes issues are addressed in the commits after that review.
Follow-up review findings are also addressed: The branch is merged through current Validation after the fixes: all 33 Hermes unit tests pass. Typecheck and the production build pass after the latest main merge. The full Fast lane still hits existing timing thresholds in two Devin ancestry tests and one Markdown performance assertion; the conflict resolution itself introduced no compile or build failure. |
## Change Release 0.4.7, from main at 80ca9bb (47 PRs since v0.4.6). - `package.json` and `herdr-plugin.toml`: 0.4.7. - CHANGELOG: `[Unreleased]` becomes `[0.4.7] - 2026-10-12`, with the compare links. - #513's entry moves out of the 0.4.0 section, where its branch's merge left it, and gets its credit; it says the pace is a setting, off by default (#834). - A Maintenance section covers the PRs that had no entry: #743, #756, #767, #795, #805, #810, #813, #821, #826, #831. - The note under the Hermes entry that asked for a runtime bump at release now says what a remote PC needs. - `release-summaries.json`: 0.4.7 in en/ko/ja/zh/tr (6 new, 6 improved, 5 fixed). The Turkish lines are not checked by a native speaker. - `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` 25 -> 26. Since v0.4.5's runtime the bridge gained Hermes transcripts (#604), conversation pushes (#689) and Grok/Antigravity activity (#816), so `remote-v26` is published before the app release. Not in this release: #606. ## Validation - `bun scripts/release-notes.ts 0.4.7` renders the summaries and the full changelog (235 lines). - `bun run typecheck` and `bun run build`: pass. - `TMPDIR=/tmp bun run test:unit`: one failure, `server/voice.test.ts` ("audio.webm" vs "clip.webm"), which fails the same way on unmodified `main` on this Mac (Bun 1.4.0); CI runs Bun 1.4.2. - Every PR merged since v0.4.6 was checked against the changelog section: all 47 are linked. ## Release After this merges and its CI on `main` passes: push `remote-v26`, wait for its release, then run the Release workflow with `0.4.7`.
Change
Hermes panes currently fall back to terminal scrollback instead of showing their native conversation. This PR reads their session database with read-only
bun:sqliteand renders user turns, assistant text, reasoning, and matched tool calls and results.Session identity comes from herdr's agent-session report or a terminal breadcrumb. Pages keep whole exchanges together, retain the held starting message during polling, and reject cursors from another database generation. Cache versions reflect the SQLite snapshot contents, so WAL edits refresh messages and metadata.
The reader reports recorded model and reasoning settings. It omits context usage because Hermes' session token counters accumulate across requests. Long tool results load through the existing full-output endpoint, scoped to the selected session.
Hermes chat paragraphs preserve line breaks while collapsing incidental leading spaces.
execute_codetool summaries show the first code line. Blank code still falls back to a file path or another summary field.Summary

Validation
bun run check fastpasses: 1,873 tests pass, six skip, zero fail. Workflow syntax, generated types, typecheck, and production build also pass..github/workflows/ci.yml. All 294 integration tests pass across 24 files, including all four Hermes HTTP tests.scripts/terminal-safari-ime-regression.ts:79:abcㅎis sent while the replay expectsabc. The same isolated test produces the identical failure on upstreamc07a810, without this PR. The full check therefore remains red locally.c07a810, all 38 pending-input and Hermes contract tests pass. All 16 browser scripts afterui-regression.tsalso pass in a separate isolated run.Merge danger
Door: two-way. The bridge reads Hermes state without changing it, and reverting the PR restores the previous fallback.
Blast radius: narrow. Hermes conversation reads use the new reader. The paragraph whitespace rule and tool-summary fallback also affect other agents. Hermes database schema changes may require reader updates.
