feat(kyverno): unregister the classic auto-vpa ClusterPolicy - #5132
Conversation
Step 1 of the shared catalog's two-reconcile move to the auto-vpa GeneratingPolicy form (devantler-tech/kyverno-policies#1). The classic policy's removal deletes the VPAs it generated; the GeneratingPolicy form is registered in a separate later revision so the two never run at once. The file stays, still tested, as the rollback form. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Post-deploy check: 0 VPAs with that label. Then step 2 (#5134) merges straight away. Its CI is running, Codex's three findings are refuted with live evidence, and it waits on one green review. Promoting and queueing. |
Why
The platform's automatic sizing policy uses a policy form that the next policy-engine release removes. The shared policy library already ships the replacement, and the library's rollout guide moves a cluster across in two separate deploys, so that the old and new policies never run at the same time and no workload ends up with two competing sizing rules.
What
This first deploy stops the old sizing policy, which removes the sizing rules it created for about 88 workloads. Running pods keep their current, already-resized limits; only a pod that restarts before the second deploy lands comes back at its authored size. The old policy stays in the repository, still tested, as the rollback form.
