fix(sdk): createDirect() and create() keep the headers http.forwardHeaders names on in-process calls - #1055
createDirect() parsed its config with http: undefined so the server never starts an HTTP host. That also dropped http.forwardHeaders, so the scope's context storage got no header forwarder, and an in-process call kept only the x-frontmcp-* entries of metadata.customHeaders. The same server reached over HTTP kept the headers forwardHeaders names. create() goes through createDirect() and, on top of that, its CreateConfig type had no http field.
createDirect() now keeps http.forwardHeaders and still drops every other http option: serve: false already selects the no-op host, so port, entryPath, routes, cors and the rest stay out of a server that never listens. CreateConfig takes http?: { forwardHeaders }. A glob that matches a refused header (authorization, x-forwarded-*, ...) now fails createDirect() and create() at startup, as it does @FrontMcp.
User-facing change
What changed:http.forwardHeaders applies to in-process calls made through FrontMcpInstance.createDirect() and create().
Before → after: with http: { forwardHeaders: ['x-acme-*'] }, callTool(name, args, { metadata: { customHeaders: { 'x-acme-tenant': 'eu-1', 'x-frontmcp-desk': 'berlin' } } }) gave the tool { 'x-frontmcp-desk': 'berlin' } → { 'x-acme-tenant': 'eu-1', 'x-frontmcp-desk': 'berlin' }, as an HTTP request does. create({ http: { forwardHeaders } }) type-checks; create() takes no other http option.
frontmcp.dev pages affected (if known):reference/sdk/context ("Reading a header of your own"), and the entry for this in frontmcp.dev's open-issues list.
Skills catalog entries updated:frontmcp-config/references/configure-http.md (Forwarded Request Headers: createDirect() and create({ http: { forwardHeaders } }) keep the same headers and ignore the rest of http), frontmcp-deployment/references/build-for-sdk.md (the create() field list takes http?: { forwardHeaders }; for in-process servers, only forwardHeaders applies of http, to create() and createDirect() calls, and a connect() client's callTool() takes no per-call metadata).
Tests
direct/__tests__/direct-server.forward-headers.spec.ts: createDirect() and create() keep x-acme-tenant. Without forwardHeaders only x-frontmcp-* is kept. A direct server's scope gets forwardHeaders but not the port or entryPath given beside it. A credential glob fails at startup. The first two tests and the last two fail without the fix.
demo-e2e-directdirect-forward-headers.e2e.spec.ts: the same two in-process calls, from the e2e app.
Ran: nx test sdk for src/direct, src/front-mcp and src/context (62 suites, 773 tests), demo-e2e-directdirect-usage and the new spec, and tsc --noEmit -p libs/sdk/tsconfig.lib.json (no errors).
createDirect() now retains http.forwardHeaders while continuing to disable HTTP serving. The create() configuration type accepts this option. SDK and end-to-end tests and reference documentation cover in-process header forwarding.
CreateConfig accepts http.forwardHeaders. createDirect() passes the option through when configured while continuing to disable HTTP serving.
Forward-header behavior and validation libs/sdk/src/direct/__tests__/*, apps/e2e/demo-e2e-direct/e2e/direct-forward-headers.e2e.spec.ts, libs/skills/catalog/frontmcp-config/references/configure-http.md, libs/skills/catalog/frontmcp-deployment/references/build-for-sdk.md
Tests cover forwarded and excluded headers, defaults, HTTP option limits, and rejection of authorization as a forwarded-header pattern. The reference docs describe in-process forwarding behavior.
agentfront/frontmcp#1001: Adds http.forwardHeaders, header matching, refusal rules, and request-context filtering, which this PR extends to in-process calls.

Header forwarding is available for direct server calls, but two documentation statements could mislead users. The change is mergeable with documentation follow-up.

Explanation
Issue #1052 requires createDirect() and create() to preserve headers matched by http.forwardHeaders in in-process calls. FrontMcpInstance.createDirect() now passes only http.forwardHeaders into the parsed configuration. CreateConfig now accepts http?: Pick<HttpOptionsInput, 'forwardHeaders'>. The added unit and end-to-end tests cover both APIs, default filtering, ignored HTTP host options, and rejection of credential-header matches. The related SDK reference text also documents the behavior.

Minor · List the new create() HTTP option. · build-for-sdk.md:145
libs/skills/catalog/frontmcp-deployment/references/build-for-sdk.md:145 Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
List the new create() HTTP option.
Line 145 still says that create() excludes http. The field list therefore contradicts the new CreateConfig.http option. Replace that exception with http?: Pick<HttpOptionsInput, 'forwardHeaders'> so readers can find and use the option. As per path instructions, “When a public API, option, default, error code or message, or CLI flag or output changes, ensure ... the matching entries under libs/skills/catalog/** are updated in the same PR.”
