- Line 168: Resolve the mapped command exit code before constructing or handling
BrokenPipeInterruptError in both armed and disarmed EPIPE paths, ensuring failed
test wait, test run --wait, and test rerun --wait retain exit code 1 when
process.exitCode is initially unset. Update the exitCode flow or pass the
resolved code into the broken-pipe handling, and add regression coverage for
both paths.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift
Resolve the final exit code before handling EPIPE.
Both paths read process.exitCode before the top-level handler maps the command result. BrokenPipeInterruptError is constructed while the exit code is still unset, so line 168 stores 0. The armed path can therefore convert a failing test wait, test run --wait, or test rerun --wait into success. The top-level handler reads err.exitCode before it assigns process.exitCode. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
The disarmed path has the same ordering defect. exit(0) can terminate the process before the final failure code is assigned.
Pass the mapped command exit code into the broken-pipe path, or defer exit-code resolution until after command handling. Add regression tests for armed and disarmed EPIPE with an initially unset process.exitCode and a final code of 1.
As per path instructions, failed waits must preserve their documented non-zero exit code.

Closes #489
On stdout EPIPE, exit with the already-set exit code (or 0 when none) instead of forcing 0, and give BrokenPipeInterruptError the same exit code, so a failing verdict survives a closed pipe.
