"""Look up a local code entity through PraisonAI's existing MCP client.

Install: pip install 'praisonaiagents[mcp]'
Install Sem separately: https://github.com/Ataraxy-Labs/sem#installation
Run: python sem-mcp.py /path/to/git/repository function_name
Add --ask to have an agent explain the result (requires OPENAI_API_KEY).

The default path calls the tool directly: no model credentials or inference.
Only sem_find is exposed. Repository source stays local to the MCP process;
with --ask, retrieved context is sent to the configured model provider.
The repository argument is a lookup scope, not a filesystem security boundary.

P2 Redirected explanations disappear

With --ask, redirecting stdout to a file or pipe loses the explanation. Agent defaults to silent output and only enables its display for an interactive terminal. This call discards the returned answer. Capture and print it with the agent display disabled, so both terminal and redirected runs produce one answer.

Note: If this suggestion doesn't match your team's coding style, reply to this and let me know. I'll remember it for next time!

P2 Failed lookups report success

A lookup timeout or broken MCP connection returns a string beginning with Error:, not a dictionary with mcp_error. Those failures bypass this check, get printed to stdout, and leave the script with a successful exit status. Handle the client's string-form failures too, so callers can tell that the lookup failed.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Return a failure status for MCP tool-call errors.

The PraisonAI MCP client can return a failed tool call as an "Error: ..." string. This check handles only dictionary errors. If Sem fails during a lookup, the CLI can print the error and exit with status zero. Handle the client’s string error form before printing so callers can detect the failed lookup. Review comment at @examples/python/mcp/sem-mcp.py around lines 65 - 67:
Update the Sem lookup result handling to detect the MCP client’s "Error: ..."
string form before printing and raise an error so the CLI exits with a failure
status; preserve the existing dictionary-error handling.
