In order to make sure that the forward control works correctly and the parameters are reasonable, it is best to test the forward control circuitry piece by piece. Otherwise there is a relatively large danger to burn components.
List of steps
Add a pull down resistor to the driving FET gate; this is missing from the schematics
Test that the driving FET works correctly
Test that the switching FET works correctly
Add a coil and a resistive load, and test the almost-complete circuit
Pulling down the driving FET gate
This is left as an exercise to the students.
