Dicey Moves is an official Arimaa variant, offered here as an experimental checkbox. Before each move a die is cast: a d6 capped at four, so one, two and three steps each come up a sixth of the time and four the other half. The opening move of Endless endgame casts one or two with equal chance, half a normal turn. No die is cast during setup. The die is stored with the state of the turn it governs, so loading or undoing shows the same roll, and each roll heads its turn's results for the move log and the game record. Both move validators take their step limit from it, and a player whose die allows a single step has no move, and loses, when only pushes and pulls remain. It is drawn as a d6 face on the most open empty square of the position the turn starts in, so a piece moving there covers it. A move that ends the game clears it; a resignation, timeout or agreed draw keeps it. Exploration is turned off for this variant only, through resolveFlags. The roll and the placement live in src/games/arimaa/dice.ts. Games without the variant are unchanged, so there is no version bump, and existing notation and saved games are unaffected. Endless endgame is a community variant devised by clyring, so it is now tagged as one and credits them. A checkbox variant which adds a random element to how many steps you have each turn (setup turns excluded, of course). It's described in one of the pdfs on the arimaa.com site. I used the die face glyphs to indicate how many steps you get that turn, and a deterministic algorithm places the die on an empty part of the board at the start of each turn, as if you were rolling the die onto the board irl, which I think is pretty nifty
Also, I don't believe we had as many metadata tags for variants when Arimaa was added, so I took the opportunity to mark Endless Endgame as a community variant devised by clyring and tag it as such. I left free setup without the community variant tag, because setting up with fewer pieces was always a thing in principle, the same pdf on arimaa.com which describes the Dicey Moves variant also describes setups with fewer pieces, and it's really more of a setup sandbox than a variant anyway, so I thought leaving it as implied official was appropriate
Now if past experience has taught me anything, I'm going to think of something I forgot within 5 minutes of clicking "Create pull request".
