Adaptive stream startup alignment, DASH live period selection, and adaptive tree update scheduling also change. ChangesAdaptive playback continuity and timing

🟡 Minor · Do not let pending subtitle reads gate audio/video output. · Session.cpp:942-944
src/Session.cpp:942-944
🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winDo not let pending subtitle reads gate audio/video output.
CSubtitleSampleReaderuses the generic asynchronous read path. When its pending read has a prior timestamp and ready audio/video is more than half a second ahead,GetNextSamplereturns before selecting the audio/video sample.DemuxReadthen returns an empty packet until the subtitle read completes.🐛 Suggested fix

When

Addressed in ff7f8f0. The worker now clamps |
|
@CastagnaIT Can you please take a look at this PR? |
|
its confusing... this PR change things that they should be done with separate PRs and there are code changes with a wrong approach I worked for a few years to better organize the code classes and separate the functions/classes that were all mixed together, but this PR are back to making mixing things up
If the current implementation of the worker for manifest updates is not adequate to the needs of the various manifest protocols then you should think about a plan to rewrite the mechanism with a different approach by taking in consideration requirements, without mess up the code... about your implementation of to note that a similar problem also occurs with video tracks (there is already a todo on main, thing to be improved on kodi core)
different periods could have also different number of tracks Changes to
hardcoded values means poor code quality
pass a unique_lock to childs class is not good to see good effort but not enough as is i cant review this PR |
Description
Motivation and context
Live DASH streams can stall when an asynchronous read makes demux return an empty packet despite another track having a ready sample. Unbounded handoff can also drain the waiting track's queue. The bounded handoff and steady manifest cadence keep playback moving across Period updates.
Live HLS playlist downloads can block segment reads long enough to empty Kodi's audio queue. Separately choosing audio and video start segments can leave audio late at startup. On backward seeks, the two playlists can map matching media timestamps to different manifest times, causing audio preroll to discard too many samples. The HLS changes address those cases while keeping playlist updates synchronized when they are applied.
