RN 0.82 Support #1077

Description

@harshnagalla

Description

Requesting support for React Native 0.82.

The latest release (v5.2.2, November 2025) includes some recent fixes, but several parts of the native code are still incompatible with RN 0.82.

Specific Compatibility Issues

iOS — Deprecated React-Core podspec dependency

The podspec depends on React-Core:

s.dependency 'React-Core'

React-Core has been split/renamed in newer React Native versions. RN 0.82 uses updated header paths and pod structure, so this dependency may fail to resolve or link incorrectly.

Android — Stale build defaults

The library's build.gradle defaults are significantly outdated:

Setting Library default RN 0.82 expects
compileSdkVersion 33 35
kotlinVersion 1.3.61 1.9+

While safeExtGet allows the host app to override these, the build logic (resolveFlavor, supportsNamespace) may not work correctly with AGP 8.x+ and Gradle 8.x+ that RN 0.82 ships with.

No New Architecture / TurboModule support

The Android module extends ReactContextBaseJavaModule with @ReactMethod (old bridge only). There is no TurboModule spec, no Fabric component, and no Codegen configuration in package.json. While the interop layer keeps it functional for now, this is on the deprecation path.

Expected

  • Update podspec to use the correct React Native pod dependency for modern RN versions
  • Update Android build defaults and verify compatibility with AGP 8.x / Gradle 8.x
  • Ideally: add TurboModule / Codegen support for New Architecture compatibility

Environment

  • React Native: 0.82
  • Platforms: iOS & Android
