Description
Unread indicators for rooms currently use the same prominent badge style regardless of whether the unread messages include a mention or other notification that specifically needs attention.
This makes ordinary unread room messages look the same as messages where the user was mentioned.
It would be useful to distinguish between normal unread activity and unread messages that specifically need attention.
Expected behavior
Rooms with only normal unread messages should use a less prominent unread indicator.
Rooms with mentions or other attention-requiring notifications should use the current prominent unread badge style.
Direct messages should also continue using the prominent unread indicator, since new messages there are directed specifically at the user.
For example:
- Normal unread room messages → subtle unread indicator
- Room with a mention / attention notification → prominent unread badge
- Direct message with unread messages → prominent unread badge
