Summary

  • Add persisted physical definitions, front/rear rack editing, cable ends and breakout channels with paged, authorized projections.
  • Save installation and replacement plans using shared prerequisites, postconditions, material requirements, atomic reservations and recoverable partial manual outcomes. Ordinary completion rechecks current equipment, geometry, mounting, connector compatibility and capacity. Explicit actual-state reports preserve work already performed despite discrepancies.
  • Review component and whole-device replacements from sites, locations, racks and component positions, with explicit endpoint correspondence and finite, correction-safe quality counts scoped to canonical selections. Physical identity, wiring, configuration, permissions and service evidence remain distinct.
  • Keep native one-shot observation bounded and report unavailable sources with command diagnostics. Unavailable collection publishes no empty inventory; frame validation and file publication failures remain errors.

Validation

Focused disk-backed admission, replacement, feedback and plan regressions, warning-denied store Clippy, rustfmt, generated contracts, Vue typechecking/builds and real desktop/phone Chromium workflows pass locally on macOS. Required CI runs the full workspace, alloc-only checks, native observation checks on macOS and Windows, and CodeQL.

Uses the explicit development fixture actor. Production authentication, provider execution and installable releases have separate qualification.

Replaces #40.

Closes #38

BREAKING CHANGE: Native collection source failures now exit successfully without publishing a report. Callers must inspect the collection outcome and report existence. Invalid arguments, malformed frames and file publication errors still return nonzero.

Add persistent physical definitions, rack layout, cable ends and scoped projections.
Use shared requirements and plans for atomic reservations, partial installation
and reviewed component replacements, with bounded feedback and recovery evidence.
Provide desktop and phone workflows over the same validated inventory.

Closes #38

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "feat!: plan racks, cabling and replacements" matches the main change. The changeset adds physical definitions and rack grids, cable ends and wiring, physical plans with reservations and materials, and component and device replacement review. The "feat!" prefix correctly flags the breaking change to native collection exit behavior. The title is short and specific.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is related to the changeset. It summarizes physical definitions with rack editing, cable ends and breakout channels, installation and replacement plans with reservations, and replacement review with endpoint correspondence. It also covers native one-shot observation with unavailable sources, and it states the breaking change to collection exit behavior. It includes validation notes and a linked issue.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #38 is the only active directly linked issue, so its coding requirements apply. No repository files were read in this assessment. Evidence comes from the PR description, the whole-PR summary, and the previous assessment. Test results are taken from the PR description and summary and were not re-run.

Requirement groups and implementing changes:

  1. Physical definitions and constraints [#38]: persisted definitions, rack grid, dimensions, clearances, mounting, mass, power, and cooling limits, occupancy coverage. Implemented in physical.rs, physical/rack_grid.rs, physical/clearance.rs, physical/coverage.rs, physical/equipment.rs, and physical/admission.rs. Covered by tests/workspace/physical/rack_grid.rs, mounting.rs, and admission.rs.
  2. Saved plans, BOMs, and atomic reservations [#38]: physical/lifecycle.rs, physical/materials.rs, physical/reservations.rs, and physical/admission.rs. Covered by materials.rs, shared_loads.rs, and admission.rs tests.
  3. Partial completion and preservation of occupancy, unresolved work, cancellation, expiry, and restore [#38]: physical/completion.rs, lifecycle.rs, and current.rs. Covered by occupancy.rs and materials.rs tests, plus restore checks in reviews.rs tests.
  4. Replacement review, endpoint mapping, and correction-safe scoped quality counts [#38]: physical/replacements.rs, physical/reviews.rs, and the endpoint mapping tests.
  5. Logical intent and cable routes retained; grants, credentials, health, and wiring not transferred [#38]: relation edit rules in disk/inventory.rs, physical/cables.rs, physical/wiring.rs, and replacement handling. Covered by cables.rs and endpoint_mappings.rs tests.
  6. Power paths and binding requirements [#38]: requirements/power.rs, requirements/binding.rs, physical/power.rs, and tests/workspace/physical/power.rs.
  7. Access control, hidden occupancy, bounded pagination, and revision checks across API, desktop, and phone [#38]: physical access checks, page limits, and cursor validation in the physical modules; Vue panels in web/app; generated contracts in proto/omloom/v1/workspace.proto.
  8. Real browser workflows [#38]: the PR reports desktop and phone Chromium workflows passing locally.

Unresolved uncertainty: the issue names import/export 'where applicable'. The summary does not describe import or export. Applicability is not established, so this item is not treated as an unmet requirement.

Native observation changes are not part of #38 and are assessed separately under outOfScopeChangesAssessment.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The native observation changes have no demonstrated connection to #38. Issue #38 covers physical planning, replacement, cabling, and shared plan semantics. It does not mention native one-shot observation, collection exit status, command deadlines, or identity and interface source handling.

Changes in this group:

  • crates/omloom-observe/src/command.rs and command/tests.rs: deadline error text now includes the executable name.
  • crates/omloom-observe/src/main.rs: finish_collection returns success and writes no report when collection fails.
  • crates/omloom-observe/src/native.rs and native/tests.rs: source labels on PowerShell errors, failure_status reclassification of Permission denied and deadline errors, and extraction of Windows socket and route parsing helpers.
  • crates/omloom-observe/src/tests.rs: collection tests that treat source unavailability as success.
  • docs/inventory.md: native-host section on ten-second command deadlines, a 90-second budget, and exit-success behavior.

The PR description lists this work as a separate bullet. It also adds a BREAKING CHANGE note for native collection source failures. The physical planning, replacement, and storage changes do not depend on these changes.

The previous assessment reached the same conclusion. These changes remain present at head d411708.

The rust-toolchain.toml change to the stable toolchain also has no stated link to #38. Its purpose is not established from the available evidence. It is noted here but is not the basis of this failure.

Resolution

Remove the native observation changes from this pull request. This covers the crates/omloom-observe source and test changes, the native-host section of docs/inventory.md, and the native collection BREAKING CHANGE note in the PR description. Move this work to a separate pull request that links an active issue requiring it. Then update the PR description to remove the native observation bullet and the BREAKING CHANGE note. Also state the purpose of the rust-toolchain.toml change or remove it if it is not required for #38.

Use shared placement admission for explicit coordinates. Cover before-body clearance through preview, reservation and ordinary completion.
Include retained occupants and accepted holds for unpositioned site and location replacements. Reuse bounded load admission and reservation cleanup across reopen and ordinary completion.
Keep bounded command execution and identify timeout sources. Report missing collection evidence without publishing an empty inventory or failing the CLI. Preserve frame and file publication errors.
Return unknown geometry for capacity-only reservations instead of treating them as corrupt. Avoid allocating geometry buffers for load-only reads and cover mixed geometric admission.

Add an explicit max_count of 8 for PowerPathRequirement sources and boundaries.

PowerPathRequirement.sources and PowerPathRequirement.boundaries have no explicit preflight count rule, so they fall back to max_count: 0. The generic frame ceilings admit thousands of references, and the request decodes before the power-path validator rejects any count above 8. Add both fields to the build.rs count rules with a limit of 8, then confirm the error returned for nine references.

Minor · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add the source label to Windows identity JSON and field errors.

When the powershell.exe identity command succeeds but returns malformed JSON or omits a field, the Windows identity arm returns the error without its source. The ps helper labels only runner failures. The reported text is Invalid structured command output, or Missing source field for any missing key. The phase text Initial host identity unavailable names neither the PowerShell query nor the Windows platform. Wrap the json and string calls in that arm with the same ; source: Windows identity (Win32_OperatingSystem, Win32_ComputerSystemProduct) label that ps uses.

The other Windows PowerShell callers already name their subsystem in coverage or CLI output. Interfaces, sockets, routes, and packet-filter each have one PowerShell call, so their module names identify the failing source. The defect is limited to the identity path.

Require verified for sockets and routes when the native tables are readable.

The loop at lines 323-329 accepts verified, partial, blocked, unavailable, or failed for sockets and routes. A regression that makes either collector fail still passes the test. Add a platform-qualified check or a fixture that requires verified when the tables are readable.

490-497: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add a completion step to the handoff test.

The test ordered_socket_handoff_admits_two_cables_without_parallel_booking stops after reserve. It asserts only PhysicalPlanState::Reserved and never completes the plan. A regression that rejects the AfterStep disconnect or the following connection would still pass. Extend the test to complete all three steps, then assert the plan state is Completed and that the second cable end is connected to the port.

Add a cable-attachment assertion to the endpoint-mapping rewire test.

endpoint_mapping_is_bounded_persistent_and_does_not_rewire checks only that the old and new ports keep their HasPort owners. Its fixture attaches no cable to any port. A change that moved a ConnectedTo relation on an accepted pair would leave this test green. Add a cable attached to a, then assert that its ConnectedTo relation and far end are unchanged after completion.

Enforce the existing eight-reference maximum during frame preflight. Cover both vectors at and above the limit before decoded memory is admitted.
Keep command and parser diagnostics attached to the same source without exposing native payloads. Cover malformed JSON and missing fields.
Exercise the production Windows socket and route parsers with readable and malformed tables. Require verified coverage and exact decoded values for readable input.

@coderabbitai Addressed the five body findings: power-path references are limited to eight before decoding; Windows identity parse errors include the source name without echoing input; readable Windows socket and route fixtures require verified coverage and reject malformed rows; the ordered cable handoff now completes all three steps and checks the final attachment; endpoint mapping now preserves both exact cable attachment relations, including the far end. Focused regressions pass.

Nitpick Add an incoming-port attachment check to the endpoint mapping test.

152-157: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add an incoming-port attachment check to the endpoint mapping test.

The test never gives replacement port c a cable attachment. Its snapshots and assertions cover only the original cable, so a change to the incoming port's existing ConnectedTo attachment would not fail the test. Add a ConnectedTo relation on c before the replacement. Snapshot its relations, then assert they are unchanged after report_steps completes the replacement.

Nitpick Assert that other still completes after the report.

72-81: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Assert that other still completes after the report.

The Conflict result comes from the asset lock that other holds on the shared item. Ordinary completion needs other's reservation row. The current assertions do not depend on that row, so a change that deletes the row while keeping the lock would still pass. The usage snapshot is taken after the report, so it cannot detect that deletion. The current reporting path does not remove another plan's reservation, so this is a coverage gap for a future regression, not a current failure.

Keep the reserved plan returned by reserve, then complete other after the conflict check:

Nitpick Check restored InstalledIn bindings after undo.

362-375: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Check restored InstalledIn bindings after undo.

After the undo call, the test reads only poses() rows and compares them with before. It never reads the InstalledIn relations. Pose rows are restored independently of relation edges, so these assertions can still pass if relation restoration fails. The assertion message names rebinding, but no assertion checks a relation.

After the undo, call binding() for each original item. Compare the relation ID and endpoints with the values read before the correction. This checks the restored relation state directly.

Nitpick Drive the Windows routes collector in the route test.

28-33: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Poor tradeoff

Drive the Windows routes collector in the route test.

The test calls windows_routes on a fixture, then records the routes coverage status with a hard-coded Ok(()). It never calls routes. The Windows arm of routes assigns network.routes and routes_complete after windows_routes returns. The test does not assert either value, and its routes status is fixed by the fixture. A dropped assignment or a failed Windows route collection would not change the test result.

Add coverage that calls routes with the platform set to windows. Assert report.network.routes and the routes coverage status. routes takes a concrete &mut Runner, and Runner is a struct in command.rs. Confirm how a test can supply a Runner before writing this test.

Nitpick Coverage gap: budget exhaustion passes the live native test.

287-288: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Poor tradeoff

Coverage gap: budget exhaustion passes the live native test.

source_unavailable treats cumulative budget messages as normal unavailability. When interface collection exhausts the budget, collect() returns Err. The test then passes after it checks only that no output file was written. The report, interface coverage, and encoding are not checked on that path.

The same message also comes from a 90-second deadline on a slow host. Rejecting budget errors would therefore also reject valid deadline outcomes, so changing the message match alone is not a safe fix.

A collection-level check could close the gap. The existing budget tests call Runner::run directly, and no test asserts budget use across a full collect() run.

Update the live native test around source_unavailable and collect() so it checks
report contents, interface coverage, and encoding when collection returns an
error, rather than passing solely because no output file was written. Add a

deadline outcomes based only on the error message; keep the existing Runner::run

Nitpick Reselect requirement 1 with unit 1 after the failed conversion.

525-533: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Reselect requirement 1 with unit 1 after the failed conversion.

The envelope test ends after the range alert and the disabled Add button. It never selects a valid requirement after the failure. A planner that kept the alert or the disabled Add button after reselection would still pass. Add a reselection step after line 532. Use unit 1, the same unit the test already placed for requirement 1. Requirement 1 has a quantity of 1, so unit 2 falls outside it.

@coderabbitai Addressed the six follow-up test findings:

  • Endpoint mapping now preserves a real existing cable attachment on the incoming port as well as the original cable and far end.
  • The independently reserved plan completes through ordinary admission after the actual-state report, proving its reservation remains usable.
  • Correction undo checks the original InstalledIn relation IDs and endpoints alongside the restored poses.
  • The Windows fixture runs the native collection pipeline, including route assignment and actual coverage recording, through the command runner's shared call and byte accounting.
  • Full-collector exhaustion checks publication refusal without an empty report. Unavailable sources remain valid outcomes; no report exists to decode on that path. The successful native path retains its content and encoding checks.
  • Desktop and phone coverage reselects requirement 1, unit 1 after the conversion error and verifies the alert clears, Add recovers, and storage stays unchanged.

Focused storage and observation checks, warning-denied Clippy, formatting, Vue build and the desktop/phone browser scenario pass.

@polaz Thanks for addressing the six follow-up test findings. Your reported changes cover attachment preservation, reservation usability, correction undo, the native collection pipeline, publication refusal, and browser recovery.

The unavailable-source distinction is important: that path has no report to decode. The successful path retains its content and encoding checks.

I have not independently verified the changes or test results. Full-workspace and platform CI results remain unverified here.
