For gaussian/tophat smoothing, local means and covariances averaged in zeros outside each map's footprint, biasing them low near edges (e.g. day patches). Means are now normalized by each map's own footprint, and every covariance entry at a pixel by the common footprint of the maps covering it, keeping the covariance positive semi-definite. Block smoothing is unchanged. Also drop fsky from n_modes_eff (smoothing scales shrink by sqrt(fsky)). Developed with Claude Opus 5.5. Co-authored-by: Joshua Kim <jaejoonk1@yahoo.com>
