Description

POST /request and PUT /request/{requestId} already accept a tags array. The request modal sends it and the PUT handler copies it straight onto the request, but neither request body in seerr-api.yml lists it. This adds tags to both.

The description differs from the one suggested in the issue. Tags sent by a user without MANAGE_REQUESTS or REQUEST_ADVANCED are not ignored. A matching override rule's tags are merged into them (server/lib/overrideRules.ts). For users with either permission, rule tags are only used when no tags were sent (server/entity/MediaRequest.ts). The PUT handler does not run override rules, so its description leaves them out.

The field is nullable: true. express-openapi-validator checks requests against this spec, so documenting tags also starts validating it, and a client that sends null today should not start getting a 400.

The issue is still awaiting triage, so feel free to close this if you would rather settle the wording there first.

AI disclosure: Claude Code (an AI agent) traced the request code, wrote this change and wrote this description. It also ran the checks below.

How Has This Been Tested?

pnpm build, pnpm lint, pnpm format:check, node bin/check-i18n.js and pnpm test (266 passed, 0 failed) on Node 22.23.3.

Because the spec now validates tags, I sent request bodies through express-openapi-validator 5.6.2 with the spec on develop and with this one:

                     develop this PR
POST tags omitted 200 200
POST tags [1,2] 200 200
POST tags null 200 200
POST tags "x" 200 400 request/body/tags must be array
POST tags ["a"] 200 400 request/body/tags/0 must be number
PUT tags [3] 200 200
PUT tags null 200 200
PUT tags "x" 200 400 request/body/tags must be array

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Request creation and update APIs now document that tag IDs are optional and may be null. For users with request-management permissions, matching override-rule tags apply when tags are omitted or null, and are added to any tags explicitly supplied.

Walkthrough

The request creation and update schemas now document optional, nullable arrays of Sonarr/Radarr tag IDs. Related TypeScript declarations now allow null for tags. The creation schema describes how matching override-rule tags apply based on user permissions.

Changes: Request tag fields

Explanation

Issue [#3653] requires documenting the tags field (array of Sonarr/Radarr tag IDs) in the request bodies for POST /request and PUT /request/{requestId}. The whole-PR diff (merge base to head) adds tags to both request-body schemas in seerr-api.yml. Each schema declares an array of integers, nullable: true, and a description. The POST description states that override-rule tags are added to supplied tags, and that rule tags apply only when tags is omitted or null for users with MANAGE_REQUESTS or REQUEST_ADVANCED. The PUT description states the tag IDs without the override rule, which matches the PUT handler behavior described in the PR. The issue proposed type: number and a single generic permission sentence. The PR uses type: integer and a more precise description. The PR explains this deviation from the issue wording. The deviation does not leave any issue requirement unmet. The requirement is documentation only, so no automated test requirement applies.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The whole-PR diff changes seerr-api.yml (the requested documentation) and three TypeScript type declarations: MediaRequest.tags in server/entity/MediaRequest.ts, MediaRequestBody.tags in server/interfaces/api/requestInterfaces.ts, and RequestOverrides.tags in src/components/RequestModal/AdvancedRequester/index.tsx. Each change widens number[] to number[] | null. These edits are type-only and match the nullable: true contract that the spec now documents for tags. They support the same objective, so they are connected to it. The PR description says the change is spec-only and does not mention these type edits, so the description is incomplete. This gap does not make the changes unrelated. No unrelated implementation changes were found. The current evidence does not show whether the type edits compile in every consumer. The author reports a successful pnpm build, but the report does not state that the build ran on this head.

- Line 6633: Update the tags declarations in MediaRequestBody and MediaRequest
to include null, matching the nullable API schema; preserve the existing
number[] type for non-null values.
- Line 6634: Update the `tags` description to clarify that users with
`MANAGE_REQUESTS` or `REQUEST_ADVANCED` suppress matching override-rule tags
only when they supply a `tags` array; if `tags` is omitted or null, matching
rule tags are still applied.
- Line 6632: Update both tag ID item schemas in the API specification from
number to integer so fractional IDs fail validation before being forwarded to
Sonarr or Radarr.
