Removes the obsolete OpenDisplay-era marketing site (Vite + React, prerendered into docs/ for GitHub Pages). The canonical website is https://meowdisplay.app, maintained in MeowDisplayWebsite. This is a cleanup only: no app code, workflows, release tooling or configuration change.

Removed (19 files) and why each is safe

Path Why safe
src/App.tsx, src/components/TextRotate.tsx, src/main.tsx, src/entry-server.tsx, src/index.css, src/lib/utils.ts The landing page itself. Imported only by each other, index.html and tools/prerender.mjs.
index.html, vite.config.ts, tsconfig.json, tools/prerender.mjs Vite entry, build config and SSR prerender for that page only.
package.json, pnpm-lock.yaml The repository's only Node project; its dependencies were react, react-dom, motion, vite and TypeScript, for the site only. No workflow runs Node or pnpm.
public/og.png The original "Use your partner's iPad as your Mac's second monitor" card. The new social preview belongs on the website (MeowDisplayWebsite#25). GitHub's repository preview is the auto-generated card (usesCustomOpenGraphImage: false), so this file never controlled it.
public/privacy.html, public/robots.txt, public/.nojekyll GitHub Pages site files. Pages is not enabled for this repository (has_pages: false). README and the App Store listing use https://meowdisplay.app/privacy.html (→ /privacy, 200).
public/icon-256.png Same blob as Mac/ and MacReceiver/ AppIcon.appiconset/icon_256.png.
public/logo.png Same blob as press-kit/Brand/MeowDisplay-Logo-512.png.
public/icon.png 2048 px site favicon render. No code, workflow or script reads it (only a prose mention, updated here). App icons stay in the asset catalogs and assets/AppIcon-master.png.

The site's "partner's / girlfriend's / mother's / kid's / dusty iPad" and "5K iMac" rotating hero, and the old OG alt text, go with these files. None of those phrases remain anywhere in the tree.

Docs updated

  • .gitignore: drop the Node/Vite/GitHub Pages block (node_modules/, dist-ssr/, docs/).
  • ARCHITECTURE.md: tools/press-kit/ is the press-kit builder; the website lives in MeowDisplayWebsite.
  • RELEASE_ASSETS.md: drop the public/ asset list; website artwork lives in MeowDisplayWebsite.
  • tools/press-kit/README.md: the logo's provenance (tag v2.0.0) now names its surviving identical copy.

README already sends downloads, docs, features, support and privacy to meowdisplay.app. All of those URLs and anchors return 200, and every relative link and image in the Markdown docs resolves.

Deliberately retained

  • tools/press-kit/ (incl. press.template.html) and press-kit/: press-kit builder and kit, run by the press-kit job in tests.yml. Its build succeeds without public/.
  • generate.sh: regenerates the Xcode project via xcodegen (README, SETUP.md).
  • assets/readme/** (incl. website/social-preview-v3.jpg used by README) and assets/*.png brand artwork.
  • scripts/release/update-website.sh and .github/release-config.json → website: they publish release.json to MeowDisplayWebsite and don't touch these files.
  • Historical records: BRANCHING.md (the disabled inherited pages.yml), fastlane/APP_REVIEW.md (upstream OpenDisplay submission), handoff-2.0/, CHANGELOG.md, COMPATIBILITY.md (upstream VersionGate design). OpenDisplay attribution, licenses and reference/opendisplay are untouched.
  • scripts/ci/test_classify_pr_paths.py uses tools/prerender.mjs, package.json and pnpm-lock.yaml only as example path strings (still classified full-CI); left unchanged.

Validation (local, on this branch)

  • ruby scripts/release/check-release-workflows.rb: release, store and repository workflows are fail-closed.
  • Release tooling tests: 105 runs, 697 assertions, 0 failures.
  • python3 -m unittest discover -s scripts/ci: 23 tests OK.
  • xcodegen generate: project created. project.yml references none of the removed paths.
  • python3 tools/press-kit/build.py: builds press.html, 7 ZIPs and 44 previews.
  • No workflow in .github/workflows/ references Node, pnpm, Vite, src/, public/, index.html or docs/. Full xcodebuild and Android builds were not run locally: no target or Gradle file reads these paths. CI's mac/android jobs run on this PR.

Not changed / follow-ups

  • iOS/OpenSidecarPhoneApp.swift comment ("does not yet have its own landing-page domain", macAppURL = ProjectLinks.gitHub) and iOS/VersionGate.swift comment ("host on GitHub Pages"): app code, left for a separate change.
  • https://meowdisplay.app/release.json currently returns 404; update-website.sh publishes it at the next release (pre-existing, unrelated).
  • A custom GitHub social preview for this repository can only be uploaded in Settings → General → Social preview.

Supersedes #134 and #135, which edited this page and targeted main.

The obsolete OpenDisplay-era marketing site (Vite + React, prerendered into
docs/ for GitHub Pages) is superseded by the canonical website at
https://meowdisplay.app (raiseCatError/MeowDisplayWebsite). GitHub Pages is
not enabled for this repository, and no workflow, release script, Xcode
target or app references these files.

Removed:
- src/ (App.tsx, components/TextRotate.tsx, main.tsx, entry-server.tsx,
  index.css, lib/utils.ts), index.html, vite.config.ts, tsconfig.json,
  tools/prerender.mjs
- package.json and pnpm-lock.yaml (the repository's only Node project)
- public/: og.png (the "Use your partner's iPad as your Mac's second monitor"
  card), privacy.html (served at https://meowdisplay.app/privacy), robots.txt,
.nojekyll, icon.png, icon-256.png (same blob as the Mac app icon_256.png)
and logo.png (same blob as press-kit/Brand/MeowDisplay-Logo-512.png)

Docs: drop the Node/Vite/GitHub Pages block from .gitignore; ARCHITECTURE.md
and RELEASE_ASSETS.md point to MeowDisplayWebsite for website artwork;
tools/press-kit/README.md notes the logo's surviving copy.
