Docs-only usability and status cleanup, with a regression test added first. Will clarify integrated
mainstatus, installer/read-only defaults, link a central documentation index, and distinguish historical draft PR evidence from current merged state. No code execution semantics, release or tag change. Complete only after both Ubuntu/macOS CI checks pass; then merge to main.
