[P0] Complete physical Finder and Settings validation for compression + helper IPC #3
Agent-reported fixture checks cover JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, PDFs, ZIP, IPC and a Swift 6 build, but do not prove the actual Finder right-click flow works end to end. This issue tracks real macOS validation, not a compression engine rewrite.
Requirements
Validate Finder selection on single files, folders, background context menus, multiple selections and Desktop when enabled.
Test Under 1/2/5/10/25 MB and decimal custom limits for supported images and PDFs. The output must be strictly below the selected decimal-MB limit; report unattainable caps clearly.
Verify Create ZIP Archive creates a standard Deflate .zip, successfully extracts with Finder/Archive Utility, preserves contents, and publishes before scratch cleanup.
Ensure original SHA-256 stays unchanged; -compressed collision behavior never overwrites outputs; result is highlighted in Finder.
Confirm Settings "Context Menu" heading and every navigation pane remain visible at various window sizes.
Verify non-compression actions (new file/folder where present, Open With, Open Terminal) still work.
Exercise cancel/failure cases, unreadable files, tool missing and external-volume unmount.
Test plan
Document disposable fixture paths, app/extension versions and exact manual Finder steps.
Rebuild/install to ~/Applications/Tuck.app and verify pluginkit, signature, URL handler and registered extension.
Capture actual Finder runtime observations separately from headless CLI/IPC probes.
Validate compression quality selection and transparency on real images; check PDF text/pages/annotations on actual documents without modifying originals.
Run existing regression scripts, restore a clean Git state, and document unresolved limitations.
Do not claim this gate passed from unit tests alone. Preserve authenticated IPC, existing untracked backups and unrelated work.
Implementation/QA update (2026-10-17):#16 was squash-merged as c6b14aea. GitHub macOS CI passed the Swift 6 IPC, Jobs, SafeUndo, and toolkit suites and built/ad-hoc signed the helper app and Finder extension: https://github.com/raiseCatError/Tuck/actions/runs/38952391488
The repeatable physical Finder matrix is now documented at docs/finder-qa.md; run bash scripts/verify-finder-environment.sh for read-only local installation/signature checks.
This issue remains open because GitHub CI cannot physically right-click Finder, inspect menus on the user's macOS 27 installation, confirm Desktop handling, visually inspect Settings, or verify the Finder-selected output. The user should run the document's disposable-fixture checklist and record actual observations before closure.
User confirmed on their Mac (2026-10-17) that the current Settings UI looks good after the fullSizeContentView titlebar fix. Treat the visual Settings title/overlap check as passed by user observation. This does not yet verify the separate physical Finder context-menu, Desktop, file output, cancellation, ZIP/merge or Undo matrix in docs/finder-qa.md. Keeping #3 open for those checks.
Implementation checkpoint: All currently planned core feature PRs through #33 are merged; final integrated Swift suite and production app/Finder extension build passed on macOS: https://github.com/raiseCatError/Tuck/actions/runs/38974716369. The user previously confirmed Settings UI/titlebar appearance looks good. Do not close #3 until physical Finder right-click flows, output hashes, cancellation/Undo, custom actions, recipes, watched-folder behavior, permissions and UI/accessibility checks are exercised on the installed macOS build. Updated matrix: https://github.com/raiseCatError/Tuck/blob/main/docs/finder-qa.md.
