The serverless Postgres guide compares Neon, Supabase, Amazon RDS and Aurora Serverless v2, PlanetScale and Prisma Postgres on billing, idle behaviour and free tiers. This removes its remaining statements that Prisma Postgres is always ready with no wake delay after idle, which the Prisma Postgres docs and pricing page do not state. #8532 removed the same claim from the Prisma Postgres vs Neon pricing post.

Changes

  • First table, Prisma Postgres row: the scale-to-zero and wake-time cells now say "Not documented", as the PlanetScale row does.
  • Choose by workload, user-facing apps that go idle: Prisma Postgres is no longer listed as a way to avoid a wake delay. The bullet now says it bills per query and that idle time adds nothing to its bill.
  • What happens when the database is idle: the Prisma Postgres line says its docs don't describe scale-to-zero or a wake time and that it bills per operation, not for compute time. The link to the launch post that carried the claim is dropped.
  • Prisma Postgres profile: the intro and the idle-behaviour bullet drop the always-ready wording and the vendor-claim disclaimer that went with it.
  • FAQ: the answer on which databases have a wake delay no longer says Prisma Postgres has no suspended state, and the scale-to-zero answer no longer says operation billing takes the delay out of the picture.
  • Bottom line: the Prisma Postgres line drops the clause.
  • Decision tree (ServerlessPostgresChooser.tsx): three Prisma Postgres results drop the always-ready clause.
  • Cover image: hero.svg drops the "Prisma Postgres: always ready" label and its flat line, so it shows only Neon's documented default (5 min idle, a few hundred ms wake). meta.png is re-rendered from the edited SVG with headless Chrome at 1200x630; a render of the unedited SVG with the same command matches the current meta.png pixel for pixel. Alt text and SVG description updated to match.
  • updatedAt 2026-10-20. The post has no update history section.

Checks

  • pnpm run lint:links (blog): 0 errors.
  • Blog tests: 73 of 75 pass; the 2 failures (BlogListing.test.tsx, BlogShare.test.tsx) are a missing local build of @prisma/eclipse in a fresh checkout and do not touch these files.
  • Added lines are ASCII only.
  • Rebased on main after blog: correct vendor facts on six comparison posts #8532 merged; no overlap with its hunks in this post.
  • Wording lint on the diff, the commit message and this body: the only hits are lines 58, 192 and 204 of the post, where the matched term describes the general trade-off or Neon, Aurora, Supabase and PlanetScale; none says anything about Prisma Postgres idle behaviour beyond "not documented".

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated the Serverless Postgres article date to October 20, 2026.
    • Revised Prisma Postgres guidance to clarify that scale-to-zero and cold-start behavior is undocumented.
    • Updated comparisons, provider details, FAQs, and recommendations to avoid claiming zero cold starts.
    • Clarified that Prisma Postgres billing is based on operations.

… guide

The serverless Postgres guide said Prisma Postgres is always ready, with
no wake delay after idle. The Prisma Postgres docs and pricing page do
not state that, so the first table, idle section, profile, FAQ, bottom
line, decision tree and cover image drop it. The Prisma Postgres rows now
say its docs don't describe scale-to-zero or a wake time, as the
PlanetScale rows do. meta.png is re-rendered from the edited hero.svg.

Walkthrough

The article and chooser remove claims that Prisma Postgres is always ready or has no cold starts. The article now describes scale-to-zero and wake-time behavior as undocumented and retains its per-operation billing description.
