The blog post /blog/neon-vs-prisma-postgres-app-hosting-in-one-place compares Neon with platforms that put app hosting and Postgres in one place. The Supabase Compute note and the Railway PR-environment note that this PR first carried are already on main (#8525, #8532), so after the rebase this PR only changes the checklist order, the Prisma entry and the PITR wording.

Changes

  • Checklist "What to compare before you leave Neon": new item 1, "Where the frontend, the API and the database run: in one project, or on separate hosts." The other ten items keep their wording and move down by one. Source: the post's own question (title and situation table row 1), no vendor fact.
  • "How we compared" note: says the comparison table uses criteria 2 to 11, in this order, and that the situation table and the entries cover criterion 1. It also says the table and the numbered entries both list vendors in alphabetical order (checked: table Neon, Prisma, Railway, Render, Supabase; entries Prisma, Railway, Render, Supabase, Vercel). The comparison table itself is not edited.
  • Prisma entry, "What it does": opens with "Prisma ORM is optional for both products; any Postgres client works." Source, checked 2026-10-21: https://www.prisma.io/docs/compute/faq ("No, Prisma ORM is optional ... Prisma Postgres accepts any PostgreSQL client") and https://www.prisma.io/docs/postgres/faq ("Can I use Prisma Postgres without Prisma ORM?").
  • Prisma entry, trade-offs: "no point-in-time recovery" becomes "no point-in-time recovery yet", and "no database branching feature" is added as a stated absence, matching the post's FAQ. The sentence "the entries are in alphabetical order" moves to the note above. Source, checked 2026-10-21: https://www.prisma.io/docs/compute/faq ("restoring to an arbitrary moment is not available yet") and https://www.prisma.io/docs/postgres/database/backups (point-in-time restore described as future).
  • "Where Prisma Postgres + Compute is the wrong choice": "no point-in-time recovery" becomes "no point-in-time recovery yet", the same source as above, so the page says it the same way everywhere.
  • Update history: one line dated 2026-10-21 for this change, newest first, and the blank line after the heading is restored. updatedAt is 2026-10-21.

No competitor facts change.

Not changed

Title, metaTitle, metaDescription, excerpt, the title prefix and the first paragraph are byte-identical to origin/main (sha256 compared). The post has no # heading, so the H1 comes from the title. Everything above "## What to compare before you leave Neon", except updatedAt, is also byte-identical, which covers the quick recommendation and the situation table.

Checks

  • Rebased on origin/main 42f3146; only this one .mdx file changes (+18/-16).
  • tsx scripts/lint.ts in apps/blog (lint:links): 0 errored files, 0 errors.
  • fumadocs-mdx in apps/blog: exit 0.
  • Do-not-claim lint on the diff, the commit messages and this body: every hit is the existing checklist criterion "Backups and point-in-time recovery", existing main text, or a stated absence (no point-in-time recovery yet, no database branching feature).

When merging, please use one squash message based on this title and body.

The Supabase lines from this PR (the Supabase Compute status in the situation table, the Supabase entry and the FAQ on whether Supabase hosts the app) moved to #8525, which also qualifies the Supabase entry's trade-offs line. They will be dropped from this PR on its next rebase.

Start the checklist with where the frontend, the API and the database
run, open the Prisma entry with the note that no Prisma ORM is needed,
and remove a duplicate sentence on entry order.

The "How we compared" note now says the comparison table and the
numbered entries both list vendors in alphabetical order.

…e Prisma entry

The Prisma entry now opens with "Prisma ORM is optional for both
products", matching the first paragraph and the FAQ, and its
trade-offs say there is no database branching feature and no
point-in-time recovery yet, matching the FAQ and the comparison table.
The update-history list gets back its blank line after the heading.

updatedAt and the new update-history line now carry the date the
change can ship.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The "Where Prisma Postgres + Compute is the wrong choice" section now
says "no point-in-time recovery yet", matching the Prisma entry, the
comparison table and the Compute FAQ ("restoring to an arbitrary moment
is not available yet"). The "How we compared" note names the criteria
the comparison table uses (2 to 11) and says what covers criterion 1.
