Python can't query a Snowflake table whose name is lowercase #438

Open

Description

@jat255

On Snowflake, the Python package can't query a table created with a quoted lowercase name, such as "survey". The catalog lists the table, but every query against it fails.

EngineBackend.quote() uses SQLAlchemy's quote(). SQLAlchemy treats an all-lowercase name as case-insensitive, so it writes survey without quotes. Snowflake then resolves the name to SURVEY, which doesn't exist. commons also reports the failure as a refusal: The current principal is not authorized to query 'COMMONS_CI.LIVE.survey'.

The R package quotes every identifier and passes the same live test. Found by test_a_source_over_the_namespace_describes_every_fixture_table in #434.
