Fixes #16.

pad_object_literal_type pads every binding element missing from a parameter's default object literal with the element's own type, which is implicitly any when the element has no initializer. For an annotated or contextually typed parameter this reports TS7031 on an element that already has a type, and for nested patterns it also replaces that type with any:

type Mk = (options?: { recursive?: boolean }) => void
export const mk: Mk = ({ recursive } = {}) => {} // TS7031, but recursive is boolean | undefined

Change

pad_object_literal_type resolves the type the pattern destructures from the parameter's annotation or its contextual signature, walking nested object patterns by property name, and does not pad an element that this type has. Elements the type does not have are padded and reported as before. The new get_declared_type_of_parameter_binding_pattern is not in the pinned Go and never consults an initializer.

The first version of this PR only suppressed the diagnostic, which left a nested contextually typed element as a silent any. This version fixes the type as well.

Checked

Built with scripts/run-cargo-capped.sh build --release -p ts_goport --bin tsgo (stable toolchain) and ran the binary on:

Case 0.1.0 This branch tsc 7.0.2
function type: const f: Mk = ({ recursive } = {}) => ... TS7031 no error, boolean | undefined same
callback argument: take(({ deep } = {}) => ...) TS7031 no error same
interface method: { rm: (path, { force } = {}) => ... } TS7031 no error same
nested, contextual: ({ inner: { deep } = {} } = {}) => ... TS7031 no error, boolean | undefined same
nested, annotated: ({ inner: { b } = {} }: Outer) TS7031 no error, number | undefined same
partial: context has known only, pattern { known, unknown } = {} TS7031 on both TS7031 on unknown only TS2339 on unknown
no type anywhere: function f({ a } = {}) {} TS7031 TS7031 (kept) TS2339

On a 17-project monorepo the diagnostics now match tsc 7.0.2 line for line apart from the wording of one Effect message (1,677 on both; 0.1.0 has 3 TS7031 more).

rustfmt --check passes on the changed file. I did not run the goport test shards or the gate; I do not have the pinned Go oracle set up.

Note on parity

This departs from the pinned Go. Upstream tracks the regression as microsoft/TypeScript#64431 (from microsoft/TypeScript#64043; first bad nightly 7.1.0-dev.20260923.1). I sent the same change there as microsoft/TypeScript#64671, and there is an earlier draft, microsoft/TypeScript#64440. If you prefer to stay exact with Go and wait for upstream, feel free to close this.

Note

Skip padding binding elements already typed by the parameter's type in checker

Changes Checker.pad_object_literal_type to look up the parameter binding pattern's declared or contextual type. When that type contains the property, the binding element is left unpadded; missing properties not in the declared type are still padded.

  • Adds Checker.get_declared_type_of_parameter_binding_pattern, a recursive helper that derives the type of an object binding pattern from the enclosing parameter annotation or contextual parameter type. It follows nested binding elements, strips nullability, and returns no type when the pattern is not part of a parameter binding.
  • Behavioral Change: parameter object-binding initializer types no longer get synthesized properties for binding elements already typed by the parameter annotation. See checker_p19.rs.

Macroscope summarized 18bcebc.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved type-checking for destructured parameters: missing initializer properties are no longer treated as untyped when the parameter’s declared or contextual type provides them.

Walkthrough

The change adds type resolution for parameter binding patterns. Object literal padding uses the resolved declared or contextual type to avoid padding properties that already exist.

Change: Bug fix · Severity of issue fixed: Low

Suggested reviewers: t3dotgg

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 18bce

The change suppresses a spurious TS7031 diagnostic for contextually typed destructured parameters. Edge cases such as an IIFE called with an argument that lacks the property are unverified. It also departs from pinned Go behavior, and the parity gate was not run. The risk is bounded, but the owner should be aware before merge.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Source-controlled binding patterns influence compiler type lookup and synthetic type construction along the examined path. The demonstrated exposure is compiler processing; no new tenant, credential, service, or privileged-resource authority follows from these operations. External crate usage remains unassessed.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The changed padding path retains the existing ownership of synthetic symbols and anonymous types. Contextual parameter resolution reuses an existing routine whose temporary IIFE signature-cache substitution is restored on normal return. No new persistent transition or recovery mechanism is introduced in the examined blocks; interruption and pathological recursion were not runtime-tested.

Gate TS7031 suppression on the binding element's contextual type.

The current condition checks only whether the parameter has any contextual type. For an IIFE called with {}, get_contextually_typed_parameter_type returns the argument type, even when that type has no a property. get_type_from_binding_element then returns any; setting report_errors to false suppresses TS7031 incorrectly.

Use get_contextual_type_for_binding_element for each missing element. The temporary any_signature assignment is restored, so the cited cache-poisoning concern is not established.

Add tests for (({ a } = {}) => a)({}), a contextual parameter type without a, and the Go-parity gate when the oracle is available.

🐛 Suggested fix
- // A missing element is implicitly `any` only when nothing else types it. When the

-        // undefined`), so reporting TS7031 here contradicts the element's own type.

…y types

padObjectLiteralType pads every binding element missing from a parameter's
default object literal with the element's own type, which is implicitly any
when the element has no initializer. For an annotated or contextually typed
parameter that replaces the type the annotation or the contextual signature
gives the element, and reports TS7031 on an element that has a type:

    type Mk = (options?: { recursive?: boolean }) => void
    const mk: Mk = ({ recursive } = {}) => {}
    //               ~~~~~~~~~ TS7031, while recursive is boolean | undefined

Resolve the type the pattern destructures from the annotation or the
contextual signature, through nested patterns, and leave out of the padding
each element that type has. Elements it does not have are padded and reported
as before.

Thank you for the fix, @Konan69, and for sending it upstream as well.

We checked it against the pinned revision, microsoft/TypeScript 673a5f17d713 (compare with typescript@7.1.0-dev.20260929.1):

Our rule is that tsc-rs output is byte-equal to tsc at the pin, and we do not patch upstream bugs ahead of it. Upstream has not yet chosen between #64440 and #64671, so merging this now could leave tsc-rs different from both the current pin and the next one. So we will not merge this PR. When upstream merges a fix for microsoft/TypeScript#64431, tsc-rs will get it with the next pin bump, and #16 tracks that.

Thanks again. The report, the bisect and the upstream PR are a real help.
