The Original Freaky Apple

The original freaky apple — an animated pet for ChatGPT and Codex.

Character reference: Freaky Apple With Tongue Out, from the AI Fruits Eating Themselves / Niche Fruit meme.

Install

With ChatGPT

Open the Freaky Apple pet page and select Adopt to add an editable copy to your ChatGPT pet library.

With Codex

  1. Open freakyapple.peaceno.de.
  2. Select Adopt in Codex.
  3. Open a new Codex task, paste the prompt, and submit it.
  4. Review any requested file or network permissions before approving them.

Codex will download the public ZIP, inspect its contents, and place the pet in the current user's Codex pets directory without changing other pets.

Manually

  1. Download freaky-apple-codex-pet.zip.

  2. Extract the archive.

  3. Copy the extracted freaky-apple directory to $CODEX_HOME/pets/freaky-apple. When CODEX_HOME is not set, use ~/.codex/pets/freaky-apple.

  4. Confirm these two required files are directly inside that directory:

    freaky-apple/
    ├── pet.json
    └── spritesheet.webp

  5. Refresh or reopen Codex. Freaky Apple should appear in the pet picker.

Do not replace an existing freaky-apple directory without backing it up first. The ZIP also includes validation.json as optional provenance metadata; Codex does not require it to run the pet.
