fix(ui): stop live counts from flooding screen readers - #283
Conversation
The change detection status line was a role="status" region holding "Recording. N cycles so far.", so a screen reader read it again on every change detection cycle while the app was used. The HTTP timeline count in SSR & HTTP was an aria-live region too, and changed with every call the app made. The cycle count stays visible but is no longer live. A separate hidden status now speaks only when Record, Stop or Clear finishes or fails: "Recording started.", "Recording stopped. N cycles recorded.", "Cleared the recorded cycles." and "Could not reach the page.". A repeated message gets a trailing no-break space so it is read again, as in the component tree. The HTTP timeline count works like the forms timeline: the visible count stays as is, and a hidden status reads it only when the search, side or Failed only filter changes.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Do not announce success when no RPC request ran.
If cycles exist while rpc is null, the user can click Clear. rpcCall then resolves with null, so this line announces “Cleared the recorded cycles.” although no request was sent. Treat the absent client as a failure before announcing completion.

Make the status change when a filter changes but the counts do not.
For example, changing the search from prod to products can leave both counts equal. filterStatus then supplies the same text to the mounted live region, so the filter change produces no status update. Include the active filter in the announcement, or otherwise change the live text on filter changes without tracking arriving calls. Angular caches computed results until a tracked dependency changes; untracked excludes the count reads as intended. (angular.dev)

…ilter counts Clear in the change detection recording announced success when the panel had no RPC client, because rpcCall resolves null without one. It now reports that the page could not be reached. A filter change that leaves the matching count the same produced the same live text, so screen readers stayed silent. The text now flips a trailing no-break space on each filter change.
What and why
The change detection status line in the Components tab was a
role="status"region holding "Recording. N cycles so far.", so a screen reader read it again on every change detection cycle while the app was used. The HTTP timeline count in SSR & HTTP wasaria-live="polite"too, and changed with every call the app made.No RPC names, data shapes or behaviour change.
