Summary

  • Add Brazilian Portuguese as a persisted UI language with native display name and common aliases (pt, pt-BR, português, and variants).
  • Register the pt-BR Fluent locale and translate 260 core strings covering settings, notifications, provider states, tray menus, the dashboard, and usage metrics.
  • Keep untranslated strings safe through the existing en-US fallback behavior used by the other non-English locales.
  • Extend the frontend bridge union, fallback language picker, and Intl locale mapping.
  • Add tests for language discovery, alias resolution, bridge bundles, fallback completeness, and placeholder preservation.

Affected areas

  • Tray panel
  • Settings UI
  • Config file / settings persistence
  • CLI
  • Provider-specific behavior
  • Installer / release packaging
  • Startup / background behavior
  • Documentation
  • Other: locale bridge and notification/tray strings

Validation

  • powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -NoProfile -File scripts\local-check.ps1 — not run: Rust, Node, and pnpm toolchains are not installed or available in PATH on this host.
  • For full pre-release validation: not applicable.
  • For installer/release changes: not applicable.
  • Thermo-nuclear code quality review completed before submitting.
  • Other: git diff --check passed; static audit confirmed all Language mappings and catalog assertions were updated. Hosted CI is required for executable validation.

UI / tray proof

  • Not applicable
  • CUA Driver visual proof attached
  • CUA Driver could not be used; the required fresh desktop build could not be produced because the Rust and frontend toolchains are unavailable on this host. No stale binary was used as proof.

Notes for reviewers

This is intentionally a draft until hosted CI validates the Rust/TypeScript changes. Like the existing translated locales, pt-BR is allowed to fall back to English for keys not yet translated. Reviewers should focus on Fluent placeholder preservation and Brazilian Portuguese terminology.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added Brazilian Portuguese as a language option, with translated app text and support for common Portuguese language labels.
    • Updated locale selection to use the pt-BR locale.

Thermo-nuclear code-quality review

Verdict: FINDINGS. Reviewed head 4f0f08247. Thanks for the translation work. The wiring follows the existing locale pattern correctly, and I have no structural objection to the code in this PR.

P2: pt-BR.ftl covers 260 of 879 keys (about 30%)

Current key counts: en-US.ftl 879, tr-TR.ftl 775, es-MX.ftl 708, pt-BR.ftl 260. The loader falls back to English, so nothing breaks. But selecting "Português (Brasil)" would show a UI that is about 70% English, which is not what "Add Brazilian Portuguese localization" promises. Either:

  • bring coverage in line with the other shipped locales, at least every Settings tab, the tray and provider-detail surfaces, and all error strings; or
  • say in the PR (and in the language picker, if the maintainers want that) that the locale is partial.

The two CodeRabbit translation notes (pt-BR.ftl:16 startup wording, pt-BR.ftl:244 status message) are still open.

P3 (non-blocking, for maintainers): adding a language touches seven places

This PR had to edit Language (enum, display_name, all, key, aliases), locale.rs::language_id (a new static plus a match arm), the .ftl include list in the tests, bridge.ts, GeneralTab.tsx FALLBACK_LANGUAGE_OPTIONS, and ClaudeSwapAccountsSection.tsx languageLocale. The BCP-47 tag pt-BR is written out by hand in four of those places. The underlying problem is that Language doesn't own its tag. A Language::bcp47() that drives language_id, the .ftl lookup and the frontend locale (sent over the bridge) would turn the next language into a one-arm change. That's pre-existing debt, so it's not a reason to hold this PR.

Thank you, @Finesssee, for the thorough review and the clear feedback. I’ll make the necessary improvements by bringing the Brazilian Portuguese translation coverage to 100% of the localization keys and addressing the two outstanding CodeRabbit translation notes.
