Summary

Consolidation wave 4: docs become a thin cache of the code. Reference material now lives in sumvox --help and config/recommended.toml; docs point there instead of restating it.

  • README 547 → 143 lines: pitch, install, four setup steps with one hook JSON, troubleshooting, menu bar, license.
  • QUICKSTART deleted (a subset of README).
  • CONTRIBUTING 481 → 72 lines: just check, the two test tiers, e2e setup, add-a-provider steps, release.
  • CLAUDE.md 165 → 27 lines: commands, non-obvious gotchas, pointers.
  • recommended.toml: voice is required for xAI and ElevenLabs, ElevenLabs model is eleven_v3, pricing removed.
  • CHANGELOG: link references for every version plus [Unreleased].
  • Templates: short PR template; bug report uses a TOML config and no version key; Discussions link removed (Discussions are disabled).
  • --provider help lists xai; the --model example no longer implies a default.
  • README no longer claims a crates.io release; install from source with cargo install --git.

Test plan

  • cargo test, cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings, cargo fmt --check
  • Every relative markdown link in changed files resolves; no QUICKSTART references outside CHANGELOG history
  • CI ubuntu + macOS

The factory accepts xai/grok, and the gemini-2.5-flash example implied a default the config owns.

…ed.toml

xAI and ElevenLabs require a voice (src/tts/mod.rs), and the ElevenLabs model id is eleven_v3. Pricing and the unenforced macOS rate range go, since they rot.

CLI, provider, config-structure and env-var reference now point to `sumvox --help` and config/recommended.toml, which also removes the wrong default-voice claims and the three-file watcher claim.

The bug report config placeholder is now TOML without the removed `version` key, and the Discussions link is gone because Discussions are disabled.

The recipe uses BSD `sed -i ''`, which GNU sed rejects.
