Support Nim libraries - #1074
Conversation
lang-nim and lang-nim-wasm use @live-codes/nim-wasm 0.6.0. The docs now describe the 41-package registry, including results on both backends and the newly supported zero_functional, stew and nimcrypto. Co-authored-by: CommandCodeBot <noreply@commandcode.ai>
nim.libraries and nim-wasm.libraries accept public GitHub URLs or inline entries. The page compiler resolves them with the package's resolveLibraries helper and caches by target/packages/libraries; the worker includes them in its compiler key. Docs describe both shapes. Verified: lang-nim spec 8/8, tsc --noEmit clean. Co-authored-by: CommandCodeBot <noreply@commandcode.ai>

WalkthroughNim compilation now supports a bundled package registry and configured libraries. Compiler instances are selected and reused according to target, package settings, and library configuration. The documentation describes package availability, custom library entries, and the updated Nim version. ChangesNim package and library support

Document object entries in libraries arrays.
The type string[] | object excludes arrays of objects, but Line 100 permits { url, ref, … } entries in an array. The package also accepts that shape. Update this type and the matching table in docs/docs/languages/nim-wasm.mdx at Line 76 so users can identify the supported configuration. (github.com)

Release compilers when library configurations change.
Each edit to an inline library can produce a new cache key. compilers retains every successful compiler, so repeated edits retain compiler runtime references for the page lifetime. Evict and dispose compilers that the page no longer uses. Do not dispose a compiler while a run is active. The package documents dispose() as the release mechanism. (github.com)

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Use an accurate error label when compiler initialization fails.
If createCompiler fails with no configured libraries, this catch reports “Could not load Nim libraries.” That message identifies the wrong failure and makes an asset or initialization problem harder to diagnose. Use a general compiler-initialization message, or distinguish library resolution from compiler creation.

Reviewed changes
packages/librariescustom settings — both Nim languages now resolve user libraries (GitHub links, inline entries, or objects) and hand them to@live-codes/nim-wasm@0.6.0, defaulting to the bundled 41-package registry. The version bump anddist//assets/nim/paths check out against the published package, and the IIFE does exportresolveLibraries.- App-side compiler cache (
lang-nim.ts) — compilers are keyed bytarget:packages:libraries, library resolution is cached, and boot failures surface as compile errors. - Result-frame worker (
lang-nim-wasm-script.ts) — the same settings reach the wasm worker, which disposes the previous compiler when the configuration changes. - Tests —
resolveLibrariesmock plus library-caching and packages-default cases. All 12 Nim unit tests pass locally; Prettier and ESLint are clean on the changed source. - Docs — new External Packages / Adding a library sections,
packages/librariesrows in both Custom Settings tables, and Nimv2.2.4→v2.2.12.
