feat: add Fanak language - #1048
Conversation
Add a `fanak` language and starter template that run Fanak in the browser via a Blazor WASM compiler runner fetched from a URL (nothing is embedded). The runner is built and deployed by the Fanak project to GitLab Pages; its base URL lives in `vendors.ts` (`fanakBaseUrl`). - language spec, in-page loader script (Blazor boot + `DotNet.invokeMethodAsync` `RunCode`), and a starter template - register the language, template, scriptType (`text/fanak`), and i18n key

Important
The Fanak runtime URL this PR points at (runner/latest/) currently returns 404, and a boot failure is never surfaced to the starter (it hangs on "Loading..."). Both are detailed below.
Reviewed changes
- Language spec —
lang-fanak.tsregisters Fanak with a pass-through compiler, C# editor highlighting,scriptType: text/fanak, and bothliveReloadandlargeDownload. - Runtime script —
lang-fanak-script.tsloads a remote Blazor WASM bundle, boots it, and exposeslivecodes.fanak.{init,run,loaded}; closely mirrors the C# (Wasm) integration. - Registration — starter template plus entries in
templates/starter/index.ts,command-menu-actions.ts,functions/vendors/templates.js,server/php/inc/starter-templates.json. - Types & build —
text/fanakadded to the app and SDKscriptTypeunions,Language/TemplateNameupdates,scripts/build.jsiife entry, vendors.tsfanakBaseUrl, EN i18n key.
⚠️ The compiler endpoint is not deployed yet
fanakBaseUrl points at https://ahmedwael216.gitlab.io/fanak/runner/latest/, which currently returns 404: the project root serves the docs site (200), but /fanak/runner/ and /fanak/runner/latest/ are both 404. Per the linked Fanak MR !44, that path is only published by the pages job once it merges to main. Until then loadBlazorScript fails, and — combined with the missing failure path flagged inline — the starter stays stuck on "Loading..." indefinitely. CORS is fine on the origin, so this is purely the missing deployment.
Technical details
# Runtime endpoint returns 404
## Affected sites
- `src/livecodes/vendors.ts:155` — `fanakBaseUrl = 'https://ahmedwael216.gitlab.io/fanak/runner/latest/'`
- `src/livecodes/languages/fanak/lang-fanak-script.ts:48` — loads `${fanakBaseUrl}_framework/blazor.webassembly.js`
## Evidence
- `GET https://ahmedwael216.gitlab.io/fanak/runner/latest/_framework/blazor.webassembly.js` → `HTTP/2 404`
- `GET https://ahmedwael216.gitlab.io/fanak/` → `200` (VitePress docs); `GET .../fanak/runner/` → `404`
- `GET .../fanak/assets/app.h-X2-UnE.js` with an `Origin` header → `access-control-allow-origin: *` (CORS is not the blocker)
## Required outcome
- `runner/latest/` is live (Fanak MR !44 merged/deployed) before or alongside this PR, or `fanakBaseUrl` points at a URL that resolves today.ℹ️ Language-info panel and docs listings not added
This PR adds the language info page as a follow-up, but omits the other two integration points that new languages normally get: there is no <section data-lang="fanak"> in src/livecodes/html/language-info.html (so the in-app info panel is empty for Fanak), and no Fanak entry in docs/src/components/LanguageSliders.tsx or docs/src/components/TemplateList.tsx. Mergeable, but worth folding into the same follow-up.
Technical details
# Missing language-info / docs listings
## Affected sites
- `src/livecodes/html/language-info.html` — no `data-lang="fanak"` section (compare `data-lang="fsharp-wasm"` at ~line 716)
- `docs/src/components/LanguageSliders.tsx` and `docs/src/components/TemplateList.tsx` — no Fanak entries
## Required outcome
- Fanak shows a populated info panel and appears in the docs language/template sliders, consistent with other WASM languages.DeepSeek Flash (free via Pullfrog for OSS) | 𝕏
- starter: run console effects with `runUnit(println(...))`. Console operations are `IO` effects in the current prelude and must be run; bare `println` statements in `Unit main()` are discarded, which produced empty output. - loader (`lang-fanak-script.ts`): post status updates to the app origin (`parentOrigin`) instead of `'*'`; surface boot failures by rejecting `loaded` and setting a `failed`/`error` state; guard `window.DotNet`; use `getErrorMessage`; and ignore results from superseded concurrent runs. - add a dedicated `fanak.png` starter icon (was reusing the C# one). - add the language-info panel section and docs LanguageSliders/TemplateList entries, with the generated en `language-info` i18n keys.

Reviewed changes
Re-reviewed the delta since the prior pullfrog review (e7f95ec → acced188), which resolves all previously flagged points:
- Boot-failure surfacing —
initnow recordsfailed/error, andlivecodes.fanak.loadedrejects when the runner fails to boot; the starter catches it and renders the message instead of hanging on "Loading...". - Superseded-run guard —
runtracks a sequence id and returns early when a newer run started, so an older invocation cannot overwrite the latest output/error/exitCode. - Loading messages — replaced the wildcard
postMessage(..., '*')with origin-targetedpostLoadingplus a nested-run counter, mirroringhaskell-wasm. - Error extraction — switched to
getErrorMessage(err)and made boot errors name the failingfanakBaseUrl. - Docs/info integration — added the
data-lang="fanak"info section with EN i18n,LanguageSliders.tsx/TemplateList.tsxentries, and a dedicatedfanak.pngthumbnail. - Starter — program output now uses the
runUnit(...)IO idiom.
I also confirmed the previously flagged runtime endpoint is now live: https://ahmedwael216.gitlab.io/fanak/runner/latest/ and its _framework/blazor.webassembly.js, dotnet.js, dotnet.native.js, and *.wasm assemblies all return 200 (the boot config is embedded in dotnet.js, so the blazor.boot.json 404 is expected). That clears the earlier deploy blocker.
The remaining items in the PR body (docs page, e2e test, vendor licenses, README badge, dedicated Monaco grammar) are acknowledged follow-ups.

A panic with no prior output returns `output: ''` and a non-null `errors`; `output ?? error` selected the empty string. Combine both (output then error), filtering empties.

Publish the Fanak Monaco module at fanakMonacoUrl.
https://ahmedwael216.gitlab.io/fanak/monaco/fanak.js currently returns HTTP 404. The dynamic import then falls back to monaco.languages.register({ id: 'fanak' }), so Fanak opens without the advertised language features. Publish monaco/fanak.js at this path or update the constant to the deployed module path before release.

The new fanakMonacoUrl returns 404, so the new Monaco path always falls back to an id with no grammar — a highlighting regression versus the C# mapping it replaced. Details inline.
Reviewed changes
Re-reviewed the delta since the prior pullfrog review (acced188 → 44d7e84), two commits:
- Fanak's own Monaco support — replaced the reused C# editor highlighting with a lazy dynamic import of
fanakMonacoUrl, falling back to a baremonaco.languages.register({ id: 'fanak' }). - Starter error display — the output pane now shows runner errors even when the program printed nothing, while keeping any partial output.
DeepSeek Flash (free via Pullfrog for OSS) | 𝕏
Replace the placeholder C# highlighting with the Fanak Monaco module fetched from the Fanak Pages (`fanakMonacoUrl`): Monarch highlighting, snippets and completion, hover, go-to-definition, rename, symbol outline and folding. The module import is fail-soft — if it is not reachable yet, register the language barely so the editor stays usable.

hey @ahmedwael216
Nice work.
Please go ahead and complete what is missing (e.g. docs, test, license, etc)
You can then use it as a playground in your docs site :)
Hand the Fanak compiler URL to the Monaco language-support module as an
explicit option (`{ baseUrl }`) instead of a global, so the module can
reach the compiler for formatting, diagnostics and compiler-backed
symbols.
The starter's markup is a TS template literal, so `'\n'` was emitted as a
real newline inside the result script, making it a syntax error; emit the
two characters `\n` instead.

Reviewed changes
Re-reviewed the delta since the prior pullfrog review (b287f1a → 2a654de), one commit:
- Monaco compiler URL —
module.default?.(monaco, () => undefined, { baseUrl: fanakBaseUrl })now hands Fanak's Monaco module an explicitbaseUrl, with a comment describing the compiler-backed service (formatting, diagnostics, symbols). - Starter newline fix — the output separator is now
parts.join('\\n'). The previous'\n'was consumed by the template literal and emitted a raw line break into the generated inline script, aSyntaxErrorthat stopped the load handler from ever running; the starter now renders its output/error correctly.
The b287f1a→2a654de range-diff contains only these two changes; all fanak registration survived the develop merges. All prior pullfrog threads are resolved.
