Summary

C# declarations were named by the first identifier under them (an attribute or a return type whenever one precedes the name), only invocation_expression edges were captured, and extractCalleeInfoJs dropped the receiver of A.B.C(. On a 19 000-file solution that recorded 48 551 symbols as Fact, 22 044 as Task, 1 730 as HttpGet, 859 as ApiController, left codebase_impact at 0 for every class, and credited Other.M() to a same-named M in the caller's file. This names declarations from field("name"), records each one's namespace-qualified full name, adds creation / type / base-list / qualified-member edges that keep the path the source writes, and resolves each written path as C# looks it up from the caller: an exact full name under its enclosing types, then each enclosing namespace, innermost first, with the imports C# consults at that namespace's level. A path no visible symbol matches stays unresolved, and a receiver that names a value is an instance receiver, never a type.

Changes

  • graph-symbols.ts extractFromCSharp: field("name") naming (old lookup as fallback) for classes, interfaces, records (a record struct as struct), structs, enums, delegates (type), methods, constructors and properties (variable); owner and csFullName (App.Billing.Calc.Compute) from byte-range containment, not line numbers.
  • Edges keep the written path as calleeQualifier: Billing.Calc for Billing.Calc.Compute(), the type path for new Billing.Calc() (callee Calc — a member cannot share its class's name, so the repeat marks a creation), and the qualifier of a qualified type. Qualifier segments are identified by byte range, so System.Collections.Generic.IList emits only IList and Order.Order keeps its terminal. type_reference covers base lists, parameter / field / property / local / return types, type arguments, typeof, casts, attributes ([Foo] → FooAttribute) and member-access receivers (csMemberReceiver: Config.Instance may end in a static member). A tuple element's label is no type reference.
  • An edge's caller is the innermost declaration containing it by byte offset, so declarations written on one line keep their own callers and imports.
  • Framework names are no longer dropped at extraction: CS_BUILTIN_TYPES (moved to constants.ts) marks a type reference, creation or static call engine only when no project type matches, and only for a framework name written alone or under System — after a variable or a type it is a member (item.Action). A project's own Task resolves.
  • graph-symbol-resolution.ts: a C# branch beside the Rust and PHP ones, with no suffix or name-only fallback. A path is answered only by a symbol whose exact full name C# would bind: under each enclosing type of the caller (nested types of its bases included), then at each enclosing namespace, innermost first, its own types before the imports C# consults there. A namespace block's usings count at the block's namespace and inside that block only, each resolved from the block's namespace outward unless global:: anchors it; the file's usings and using statics count after the global namespace's own types. An import brings in types, not namespaces. Two imports binding one name at one level are not followed. A global using counts for its own file: which files share a compilation is not recorded. A global:: path is looked up in the global namespace alone; a path through an extern alias is not resolved. A using alias is written out with the place it is declared as its anchor (global:: for a file-level one, App.Shop:: for one in a namespace block), and its target is looked up from there outward, without that block's own imports, never from where it is used; a target not found there stays unresolved.
  • Receivers: this. and base. calls resolve to the caller's own type and its bases; a call result or ?. names no target and stays unresolved. A receiver that names a value is an instance receiver (receiver: "?"), unresolved, and draws no type reference: a local, parameter, pattern or range variable, or a field / property / constant / event of an enclosing type, as C# looks a simple name up — the extractor sees those declared in the file, the resolver those in another part of the type or inherited from a project base, and a nearer nested type of that name still wins. A value whose declared type ends in its own name (Status Status) hides nothing only when both readings name one type: a member's declared type, looked up where it is declared, must be the type the name finds from the caller (csSelfTypedMembers); a qualified type naming another type, a nullable value type, or one either reading cannot find keeps it a value. A pattern variable is scoped to its block, switch section or switch-expression arm. A creation resolves to the type's declared constructors, or the type itself when it declares none. A member-access receiver falls back to a shorter prefix only for a type that declares the next segment (a member, a field / constant / event / enum member in csMembers, or one inherited from a project base). A static call on a .NET type is engine unless a visible project type of that name shadows it; then a member it lacks stays unresolved.
  • Each (type, base) lookup is cached, which keeps nested hierarchies linear and ends a cyclic one.
  • types.ts: SymbolNode.csFullName, csMembers, csSelfTypedMembers, csBases, csUsings, csBlockUsings, csBlock, SymbolEdge.csMemberReceiver, and the C# meaning of receiver (this / base / ?); graphs persisted without them resolve by qualifiedName as before.

Type of change

  • Bug fix (non-breaking change that fixes an issue)

Testing

  • Unit tests pass (npm run test:unit) — 2650 passed
  • TypeScript compiles cleanly (npx tsc --noEmit), npm run build clean, biome clean
  • New tests added: 7 C# extractor cases in graph-symbols.test.ts, 36 resolver cases in graph-symbol-resolution-csharp.test.ts, 31 of them extractor → resolver over real C# source: competing namespace suffixes, global:: paths, this. / base. / variable / call-result / ?. receivers, lowercase variable and namespace receivers, sibling namespace blocks with their own usings and aliases (also on one line), a block import against a global-namespace type, block imports resolved from the block's namespace or global::-anchored, an import that names a namespace, a global using in its own file and another, extern aliases, framework static calls with and without a shadowing project type, framework names after a variable or type, tuple labels, receivers that are a parameter / local / field / inherited property / property of another part / Status Status / a name hidden by a nested type, a value typed as itself through a qualified or nullable type, a nullable record struct against a nullable reference record, a pattern variable in a sibling switch arm, block aliases whose target a nearer namespace or the block's own import could redirect, bases found in the own namespace / through using / ambiguous / not visible, nested types imported by using static or declared by a base, and a 16-level nested hierarchy with a cycle. Each case of the last three rounds was checked red against the previous revision and against a mutation of the code it covers (alias anchored at the use site, alias seeing its block's imports, Status Status decided by the terminal name, nullable value type taken as the same type, record struct recorded as a class, switch-arm variable given its block, suffix fallback restored, anchor ignored, block usings applied file-wide or after every namespace, block usings resolved from the root, namespaces importable, callers attributed by line, extractor or resolver value check off, Status Status counted as a value, nested type no longer stopping the walk, this dropped, framework flag unconditional, extern alias read as global:: or dropped, lowercase qualifiers dropped); the nested-hierarchy case does not finish in 180 s on the revision before it.
  • Measured on a 20 223-file solution, extractor + resolver in process without the file graph, upstream eb94e07 → this head: unresolved 93.7 % → 58.3 %; type references with several candidates 618, creations 4 430; duplicate symbol ids 0; no file failed.
  • The round before this one (59943a5 vs its predecessor): type references with several candidates 86 077 → 619 and creations 17 857 → 4 430, since a bare name binds only the type the caller can see; of 10 sampled edges that went from one candidate to unresolved, 9 had been false links (an ASP.NET type bound to a same-named generated client class, a PDF library's type to a same-named project type, a mock field to the class it mocks). 4 177 fewer calls are local: an instance call such as x.Load() used to bind by name to a same-named method in the caller's file.
  • This round (59943a5 → this head): unresolved 58.1 % → 58.3 %. All 6 331 edges that went from one or several candidates to unresolved are in files under a directory holding a global using file, which no longer reaches other files; 3 more calls went from engine to unresolved, member paths such as X.Type.ToString(). 10 805 fewer type references are drawn, from value receivers and tuple labels; of those that had resolved, 119 are gone: 75 tuple labels, 32 receivers that name a field or property not typed as itself, and 12 others, among them a creation the parser reads as a tuple element while recovering from a syntax error. 244 209 calls on a value receiver carry receiver: "?" instead of a qualifier; all were unresolved before and after. engine edges 201 146 → 201 003.
  • Latest round (5c907d3 → this head), both measured on the solution as it is today (20 452 files): unresolved stays 58.3 %. 182 edges are re-spelled with an alias's declaring namespace as anchor, every one with its target unchanged. 5 go from engine to unresolved: members declared DateTime DateTime or Random Random, whose type is .NET's, so the graph cannot show the two readings agree. Recording record structs as struct changes 93 symbols' kind and no edge.
  • Not read, so their imports are missed: global usings of other files, MSBuild <Using Include> (22 items in 21 project files there) and <Compile Include … Link>; the namespace of the 2 files whose declaration does not parse. A member inherited from a base outside the project (a framework controller's property) is not known to be a value.
  • Measured at d0aac8d through the full pipeline, before → after: unresolved symbol edges 94.2 % → 62.6 %; codebase_impact on a static helper class 0 → 5 files (its caller list names every file git grep finds except a comment-only mention); on one of its methods (was recorded under its return type's name) not found → 4 files; on a widely shared class 0 → 164 files.
  • Note: a standalone script that parses the whole solution exits with SIGSEGV after finishing, while Node frees the environment (@ast-grep/napi 0.40.5 finalizers overflow the stack). A script that only walks parent() chains with the parser reproduces it, and process.exit() — the server's shutdown path — exits cleanly, so the server is unaffected.

📝 Walkthrough

C# graph extraction now records qualified declarations, calls, type references, receivers, imports, and inheritance metadata. The resolver uses caller scope, imports, and project-wide indexes to classify project and framework references.

Changes: C# graph extraction and resolution

Layer / File(s) Summary
Extract C# symbols and edges
src/types.ts, src/services/graph-symbols.ts, tests/unit/graph-symbols.test.ts
C# symbols now include qualified names and metadata for members, bases, imports, and scopes. Extraction records calls, constructions, type references, attributes, aliases, and receiver information. Tests cover declarations, qualifiers, and edge extraction.
Resolve qualified calls and type references
src/constants.ts, src/services/graph-symbol-resolution.ts, tests/unit/graph-symbol-resolution-csharp.test.ts
The resolver looks up symbols through scopes, imports, namespaces, inheritance, and project-wide indexes. It handles constructors, static and instance members, this, base, nested types, value receivers, and framework types. Tests cover confidence classification, unresolved cases, cyclic bases, and performance.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 4dbfc

C# graph extraction now skips extern-alias-qualified type references instead of emitting a bare one. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains from the reviewed evidence.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 4dbfc

This is a bounded C# analysis change rather than a new execution or access path. The main remaining uncertainty is compatibility with callers that retain symbol identifiers across rebuilds.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Repository-controlled C# declarations and references can alter stored graph links and downstream impact results. The inspected propagation is through the supplied graph and its existing query flow; no new privilege-bearing action was identified along that path.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The extractor remains private behind the existing language dispatch. The separately flagged run and kindOf declarations are local test helpers, not production entrypoints. These changes do not themselves add a remotely callable interface.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Inherited-member and nested-type traversal track visited full names to terminate cycles. Unrecognized value receivers remain unresolved rather than being widened to same-named methods elsewhere.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #208 requires declaration names from field("name"), creation, base-list, and type-reference edges, and preserved qualified receivers. The PR implements these changes in graph-symbols.ts. It adds C# path resolution and receiver handling in graph-symbol-resolution.ts. The reported extractor and resolver tests cover these requirements, including constructors, properties, delegates, qualified calls, and object creation.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The added C# metadata, scoped import and alias handling, inheritance lookup, framework classification, value-receiver handling, persistence support, and regression tests directly support issue #208. The documented limits for cross-file global using, MSBuild imports, and unparsable declarations do not demonstrate unrelated changes. No unrelated change is established.

Corrections required at ee109c5; the three inline findings are valid:

  1. Qualified targets: Preserve the written namespace/type identity for calls and type references. A qualified call must not become a bare local-method lookup, and a qualified type must not bind an unrelated same-named local declaration. Keeping only the final class name is insufficient when namespaces contain duplicate names. See the call thread.
  2. Creation calls: Route object-creation calls through C# resolution so same-namespace targets outside the file dependencies resolve to their constructor or implicit-constructor class. The parallel type-reference edge does not resolve the call itself. See the creation thread.
  3. Qualified type leaves: Skip qualifier segments by node identity/ranges, not text equality, while retaining the terminal type even when its spelling matches the namespace. See the type-reference thread.
  4. Project-owned types: The framework-name filter discards project-defined types with names such as Task, including qualified uses. Rule out a project declaration before suppressing a framework reference; apply this to creation edges too.
  5. Method owners: Line-only owner selection assigns methods to the wrong sibling class when declarations share a line. Use AST containment or complete source ranges.
  6. Declaration coverage: #208 also requires delegate and property declarations. Extract their name fields with the appropriate existing symbol kinds and owner qualification.

Please batch these corrections with extractor-to-resolver regressions.

…d types

Review of giancarloerra#209 at ee109c5 found the C# edges still lost identity the source
writes out:

- A namespace-qualified call (`Billing.Calc.Compute()`) emitted a bare
  `Compute`, and a qualified type (`Billing.Calc`) a bare `Calc`, so both
bound local-first to a same-named declaration. Calls and type references
now carry the whole written path as `calleeQualifier`, and every C# symbol
its namespace-qualified `csFullName`; resolution matches the path against
  the full name's trailing segments.
- `new Calc()` took the generic path and stayed unresolved outside the file
graph. A creation now carries the type path as its qualifier (a member
cannot share its class's name) and resolves to the declared constructors,
or to the type when it declares none.
- Qualifier segments were skipped by text, which emitted `Collections` for
`System.Collections.Generic.IList` and dropped the terminal of
`Order.Order`. They are now identified by byte range.
- The framework-name filter dropped a project's own `Task` at extraction.
Framework names are now recorded and marked `engine` at resolution only
  when no project type matches.
- Owners came from line numbers, so two classes on one line shared members.
Owners and full names now come from range containment.
- Delegates (`type`) and properties (`variable`) are recorded, as giancarloerra#208 asks.

A member-access receiver may end in static members (`Config.Instance.Load()`),
so `csMemberReceiver` lets resolution fall back to the longest prefix that
names a type; a type position is matched whole.

@giancarloerra all six corrections are in 4041e70, each with an extractor → resolver regression that fails on d0aac8d:

  1. Qualified targets: calls and type references keep the whole written path as calleeQualifier, and every C# symbol records csFullName (App.Billing.Calc.Compute). A path matches only a symbol whose full name ends in it, so Billing.Calc never binds App.Calc or App.Other.Calc. A member-access receiver (Config.Instance.Load()) falls back to its longest prefix that names a type; a type position does not.
  2. Creation calls: new Ns.Calc() carries Ns.Calc as its qualifier and resolves through the C# branch to the declared constructors, or to the type when it declares none.
  3. Qualified type leaves: segments are identified by byte range, so Order.Order keeps its terminal and System.Collections.Generic emits nothing.
  4. Project-owned types: the filter left extraction. CS_BUILTIN_TYPES marks a type reference or creation engine only when no project type matches, bare or qualified.
  5. Method owners: owner and full name come from range containment; two classes on one line keep their own members.
  6. Declaration coverage: delegates (type) and properties (variable, Owner.Name) are recorded.

Measurements on the 20k-file solution are in the PR description.

…evidence

`csMemberReceiver` let `Billing.Rates.Load()` fall back to any class named
`Billing` when the whole path named no type, although `Billing` may be a
namespace the project does not declare: the same-named binding giancarloerra#209's review
asked to rule out.

A shorter prefix is now accepted only for a type that declares the next
segment: a member symbol with that full name, or a name in the type's new
`csMembers` (fields, constants, events, enum members, which are not symbols).
Otherwise the edge stays unresolved. `UserStatus.Active.Id` (a static
readonly field) still resolves; `Site.GroupSiteId.ToString()` narrows from
four classes named `Site` to the one that declares it; a `using` alias such
as `Fixture.Supplier` no longer binds unrelated nested `Fixture` classes.

1632-1638: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Use the per-file name index in find instead of scanning each file's symbol list.

inFile runs symbolsByFile.get(file).filter(...) over the caller file and over every dependency. find runs for each C# qualified or type-reference edge. The type-reference loop calls it once per prefix length, and the inherited-member path calls it again. The cost per edge therefore grows with the total symbol count of all dependency files. symbolIndexByFile already maps file → name → symbols, and the generic path uses it. On a solution with about 20k files, the indexed lookup removes a linear scan from the hot loop.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Fix the null qualifier check. With the current ??, the extern-alias guard never runs.

written stores null for a path that is not a plain name path. Two cases do this: an extern alias such as Ext::Foo, and a qualifier rooted in one, such as Ext::Ns.Foo. The comment at Lines 2534-2536 says that no reference is drawn for these cases. writtenQualifier returns written.get(...) ?? "", and ?? converts the stored null to "". The qualifier === null check in pushTypeRefAt at Line 2759 therefore never succeeds. Foo is then emitted as a bare type_reference. The resolver's project-wide find binds a bare Foo to any project type of that name and can report it as unique.

Separate a missing key from a stored null.

Update writtenQualifier to distinguish a missing entry in written from an entry
explicitly storing null: return the empty-string fallback only when the key is
absent, and preserve stored null so pushTypeRefAt’s null guard can skip
references rooted in extern aliases. Keep the existing qualifier behavior for
stored strings.

Remaining corrections at 4ae798a, consolidating the completed review:

  1. Qualified target identity: Suffix matching combined with caller-file-first lookup can select a same-tail symbol in the wrong namespace before the correct cross-file target. Name extraction also discards the global:: anchor, and the uppercase-prefix guard drops valid lowercase namespace receivers, allowing bare local-method lookup. Preserve absolute/relative qualification and receiver identity; match exact names visible through the caller's lexical namespace/imports before considering file proximity. Do not manufacture a confident target from suffix equality alone.
  2. Namespace-scoped imports: All using directives currently share one alias map and namespace list. An alias in one namespace overwrites the same alias in a sibling namespace; sibling imports also contaminate csUsings, preventing otherwise unambiguous inherited-member resolution. Select bindings visible at each reference/declaration using the enclosing namespace ranges, retaining file-level directives without merging sibling scopes.
  3. External aliases: Preserve the explicit null sentinel. Default only a missing map entry to the empty qualifier so unsupported external-alias references reach the existing skip guard, rather than becoming bare references to unrelated project types.
  4. Framework calls: Classify static calls consistently. When no project type matches the qualifier and its owner is a known framework type, use engine; a missing member on a matching project-declared type must remain unresolved.

Please batch these fixes with extractor-through-resolver regressions for competing namespace suffixes, root-qualified and lowercase receivers, sibling namespace aliases/imports, external aliases, and framework calls with project-type shadowing. Keep unsupported or ambiguous targets unresolved rather than binding an unrelated symbol.

…, creation and qualified-call edges

The C# extractor named every declaration by the first identifier under it, which
is an attribute or a return type whenever one precedes the name: on a 19 000-file
solution 48 551 symbols were recorded as `Fact`, 22 044 as `Task`, 1 730 as
`HttpGet` and 859 as `ApiController`. It captured only `invocation_expression`
edges, so no class, interface, record, struct or enum could ever be a dependent,
and `extractCalleeInfoJs` kept the last segment of `A.B.C(`, so a static call
`Other.M()` was answered by a same-named `M` in the caller's own file.

- Declarations are named from `field("name")`, with the first identifier as the
fallback; `enum_declaration` is extracted; members carry `Owner.Name` as their
  qualified name.
- Invocations through a `member_access_expression` whose receiver is a PascalCase
identifier carry it as `calleeQualifier` (`this`, `base` and fields do not).
- `object_creation_expression` is a call to the type, as `new Foo()` is for
TypeScript, and a `type_reference` to it.
- `type_reference` edges for base lists, parameter / field / property / local /
return types, type arguments, `typeof`, casts, attributes (`[Foo]` names
`FooAttribute`) and the receiver of a qualified member access — the C#
counterpart of the import edge a TypeScript `import { Foo }` gives a class,
since `using` names only a namespace. BCL names are left out, as
  `TS_BUILTIN_TYPES` does for TypeScript.
- Resolver: a C# edge with a qualifier is matched by `Owner.Name`, a C#
`type_reference` by name against class-like symbols — in the caller's file,
its dependencies, then the whole project through two lazily built indexes,
because a same-namespace target needs no `using` and is outside the file
graph. A name no class declares stays unresolved.

Measured on the same solution, same commit: unresolved symbol edges 94.2 % →
62.6 % (the rest are BCL and LINQ calls); the four misnamed buckets above are
gone; `codebase_impact` on a static helper class 0 → 5 files at depth 1, and its
caller list names every file `git grep` finds except one whose only mention is
a comment; on one of its methods, previously recorded under its return type's
name, 0 → 4 files; on a widely shared class, 0 → 164 files.
Review of giancarloerra#209 at ee109c5 found the C# edges still lost identity the source
writes out:

- A namespace-qualified call (`Billing.Calc.Compute()`) emitted a bare

A member-access receiver may end in static members (`Config.Instance.Load()`),
so `csMemberReceiver` lets resolution try a shorter prefix of the written
path — but only for a type that declares the next segment: a member symbol,
a field / constant / event / enum member among its new `csMembers`, or
either inherited from a project base. Otherwise the edge stays unresolved,
so a namespace segment never binds a same-named class.

A file's `using` aliases are written out to the path they name before any
edge is recorded. Types record their written bases (`csBases`); a base is
looked up as C# looks it up — an exact full name under each enclosing type
and namespace, innermost first, then under the file's imported namespaces,
an ambiguous import followed by neither — never by name across the project.
Qualified calls use it for static methods a type inherits. Members of a base
outside the project stay unresolved, and a primary-constructor argument
(`X` in `: Base(X)`) is no longer recorded as a type reference.

Follow-up, folded into 4041e70 (the branch is now two commits: d0aac8d for the first round, 4041e70 for the review):

  • Receiver fallback: a shorter prefix of Config.Instance.Load() is tried only for a type that declares the next segment, either as a member symbol or among its new csMembers (fields, constants, events, enum members). Members inherited from a project base count too. Without that evidence the edge stays unresolved, so Billing.Rates.Load(), with Billing an external namespace, never binds an unrelated Billing class.
  • using aliases are written out to the path they name before edges are recorded.
  • Bases are looked up as C# does: an exact full name under each enclosing type and namespace, innermost first, then under the file's using namespaces. Two imported types with the same name are not followed. Qualified calls use the same lookup for static methods a type inherits. Members of framework bases (DbContext.Database) stay unresolved.

A C# path is now answered only by a symbol whose exact full name C# would
bind from the caller: its enclosing types and namespaces, innermost first,
then what is imported at that line. The suffix fallback is gone, so a path
no visible symbol matches stays unresolved instead of binding a same-named
type in another namespace.

- `global::` anchors are kept on the written path and looked up in the
global namespace alone; a file-level alias target is anchored the same way.
- `using`s and aliases inside a namespace block apply to that block only.
- An extern-alias path (`Legacy::X.Y`) is not resolved.
- `this.` and `base.` calls resolve to the caller's own type and its bases;
any other receiver (a variable, a call result, `?.`) stays unresolved.
- A static call on a .NET framework type is `engine` unless a project type
of that name is visible, in which case a missing member stays unresolved.

Tests: regressions through extractor and resolver for each case above, each
checked red against a mutation of the code it covers.
A base is looked up from its type's enclosing types, whose own bases are
looked up in turn, so nested types made the walk exponential in their depth:
ten nested classes with four bases each took 20 s to resolve, twelve over
two minutes. Each (type, base) lookup is now cached; a lookup still under way
answers nothing, which also ends a cyclic hierarchy and replaces the depth
counter. Results on a 20,223-file solution are unchanged.

The extern-alias regression now pins the exact edges instead of a negative.
The call keeps its written namespace and resolves by it; an unknown
lowercase namespace stays unresolved rather than reaching a same-named
local method.

All four are addressed at 59943a5. Each case you listed has an extractor → resolver regression, and each one fails when the code it covers is mutated.

  1. No more suffix matching or file proximity. A path binds only the exact full name C# sees from the caller: its enclosing scopes first, then the imports at that line. global:: is kept and looked up in the global namespace alone. Any receiver path stays a qualifier, lowercase ones included. this. and base. resolve to the caller's type and its bases.
  2. A namespace block's usings and aliases apply to that block only.
  3. The null sentinel is kept, so a path through an extern alias stays unresolved.
  4. A framework static call is engine unless a visible project type shadows it. A member that type lacks stays unresolved.

On the 20 223-file solution, type references with several candidates went from 86 077 to 619, and unresolved went from 56.0 % to 58.1 %. 95 % of the newly unresolved edges come from global usings that test projects link in through MSBuild, which is not read; the PR body has the breakdown. Base lookup also took time exponential in nesting depth; it is now cached per (type, base).

The earlier external-alias and basic framework-call findings are addressed. Remaining corrections at 59943a5, consolidating the full review:

  1. Namespace/import lookup order: All enclosing scopes are searched before imports, so a global-namespace type wins over an import declared in the caller's nearer namespace. Namespace imports also lose their declaring scope and anchor, so a relative import can bind the wrong root namespace. Resolve directives from their declaration scope, retain absolute qualification, and consult imports at the appropriate namespace level rather than flattening them after every scope.
  2. Exact namespace-block containment: Scoped imports are selected only by line range. Sibling namespace blocks on one line therefore import each other's namespaces and create false ambiguity. Associate imports with their exact owning scope using the byte containment already available, not line-only membership.
  3. Global-using ownership: Directory-prefix inheritance is not compilation membership. It misses a compilation's directive in a child folder and can leak a directive into a separate project below it. Remove that inference. Propagate across files only with established compilation ownership; otherwise defer that unsupported cross-file case and document the limitation. No new project-system parser is required for this fix.
  4. Value receivers shadowing types: Every name-path receiver becomes a type qualifier. A parameter sharing a project type's name can consequently bind that type's unrelated static method. Respect visible value bindings before type/namespace lookup, and leave unsupported instance receivers unresolved. Additional type inference is not required.
  5. Framework-path classification: The trailing builtin-name finding is valid. A member path such as item.Action is not evidence of a framework type. Restrict classification to a supported bare builtin or System-qualified type path, preserving project-type shadowing and unresolved value/member receivers.
  6. Tuple labels: The tuple-element finding is valid. Skip the identifier in each tuple element's name field while retaining its actual type references; a label must not create a dependency on an unrelated same-named class.

Please batch these with extractor-through-resolver regressions for the affected bindings, including same-line namespace blocks and project/value-name collisions.

… usings to their file

A framework type name now counts as .NET's only alone or under `System`.
After a variable or a type the same name is a member (`item.Action`,
`Settings.Environment`), so such an edge stays unresolved instead of
being hidden as `engine`.

A tuple element's label (`Total` in `(int Total, Order Item)`) is no
longer drawn as a type reference.

A `global using` now applies to its own file only. The directory-prefix
guess at which files share a compilation is removed: that is a
project-system fact the graph does not read.
C# looks a name up namespace by namespace, innermost first: at each level
the namespace's own types, then the imports of the block declaring it.
The file's imports come only after the global namespace's types.
Resolution now walks that order instead of trying every scope before any
import, so a namespace block's `using` beats a global-namespace type of
the same name.

A block's `using` is resolved from the block's namespace outward
(`using Billing;` inside `namespace App` names `App.Billing` when the
project declares it) unless `global::` anchors it. A file-level one is
resolved from the global namespace. An import brings in types, not
namespaces, so `X.Y` is taken from one only when `X` is a type it imports.

Imports now belong to the exact block that declares them. Each importing
block is recorded with its full namespace and its enclosing importing
block, and each declaration records the innermost one it sits in. A C#
edge's caller is now the innermost declaration containing it by byte
offset, not by line. Blocks and classes written on one line therefore no
longer share imports or callers.
C# looks a simple name up as a value before a type: first a local or
parameter, then a member of each enclosing type, innermost first. A
parameter `Report` therefore hides a project type `Report`, and
`Report.Print()` is an instance call.

The extractor now records such a receiver as `?`, an instance receiver
that stays unresolved. This covers a local, a parameter, a pattern or
range variable, and a field, property, constant or event of an enclosing
type declared in the file. Its member access draws no type reference.

The resolver does the same for a member that the caller's type declares
in another file or inherits from a project base. A nested type of the
same name, declared nearer, still wins.

A value whose declared type has its own name (`Status Status`) may be
read as either, so it hides nothing and the type lookup decides. Types
record these in `csSelfTypedMembers`. A member access is now flagged
`csMemberReceiver` whatever its length.

All six are addressed at 5c907d3. Each has an extractor → resolver regression that fails without its fix and on a mutation of the code it covers.

  1. At each namespace level, lookup now checks that namespace's own types, then the imports C# consults there. A block's using is resolved from the block's namespace outward unless global:: anchors it. File-level imports come after the global namespace's types. An import brings in types only.
  2. Imports belong to the exact block that declares them, and an edge's caller is now found by byte offset. Blocks on one line no longer share either.
  3. The directory inference is gone, so a global using counts for its own file only. The PR body lists this as a limitation.
  4. A receiver that names a value is an instance receiver and stays unresolved: a local, a parameter, or a member of an enclosing type, whether declared in the file, in another part, or inherited from a project base. A nearer nested type still wins, and Status Status hides nothing.
  5. A framework name is engine only alone or under System.
  6. Tuple labels are skipped.

On the same solution, unresolved went from 58.1 % to 58.3 %. All 6 331 newly unresolved edges lost a namespace imported by another file's global using. The PR body has the breakdown.

Three binding corrections remain at 5c907d3. Deferring cross-file global usings matches the previously requested scope.

  1. Bind namespace aliases in their declaration context. expandAt substitutes a relative alias target at the use site. A nested namespace can therefore redirect the alias to a different project type. Resolve and anchor the target in the alias's declaration context, preserving explicit global:: qualification. If that binding cannot be established, leave it unresolved instead of rebinding it in the caller's namespace.
  2. Use full type identity for the value/type-name exception. typedAsItself compares only the terminal identifier. A value declared with a qualified type can consequently resolve through an unrelated visible type with the same short name, producing a false static-call edge. Allow the exception only when both interpretations identify the same type; otherwise preserve value shadowing and leave the unsupported instance receiver unresolved. Retain the genuine same-type Status Status behavior.
  3. Keep switch-expression pattern variables inside their arm. scopeOf omits switch_expression_arm, so an arm's pattern variable receives the enclosing block's range and shadows a type in sibling arms. Assign the binding its arm range so the value receiver remains unresolved in that arm while a valid type-qualified call in another arm resolves.

Please batch these with extractor-through-resolver regressions for competing alias targets, qualified type/value-name collisions, and sibling switch arms. The completed incremental CodeRabbit review added no findings; these maintainer findings still require correction.

…type identity

An alias declared in a namespace block now has its target looked up as
C# resolves it. The lookup starts at the block's namespace and goes
outward, without the block's own imports. It never starts from where
the alias is used, so a nested namespace at the use site can no longer
redirect it. The written path keeps the declaring namespace as its
anchor (`App.Shop::Billing.Calc`); `global::` stays as written. When
that lookup finds nothing, the reference stays unresolved.

A value whose declared type ends in its own name is read as the type
only when both readings name one type. `csSelfTypedMembers` now keeps
the declared type, and resolution compares it with what the name finds
from the caller. A qualified type naming another type (`Other.Status
Status`) or a nullable value type is still a value. For a local or
parameter, only a plain `Status Status` qualifies.

A switch expression arm now scopes its pattern variables, so a variable
in one arm no longer hides a type in a sibling arm.

All three are addressed at d9b8700. Each has an extractor → resolver regression that fails without its fix and on a mutation of the code it covers.

  1. A block alias is written out with its declaring namespace as anchor (App.Shop::Billing.Calc). Its target is looked up from that namespace outward, without the block's own imports. A target not found there stays unresolved. global:: is kept as written.
  2. A member's declared type is recorded and looked up where the member is declared. Status Status counts as the type only when that is the type the name finds from the caller. A qualified type naming another type, or a nullable value type, keeps it a value. For a local or parameter, only a plain Status Status qualifies.
  3. A switch-expression arm now scopes its pattern variables.

Measured on the same solution against 5c907d3, unresolved stays at 58.3 %. 182 alias edges are re-spelled with unchanged targets. 5 framework-typed members (DateTime DateTime) go from engine to unresolved.

The three previous corrections are addressed at d9b8700. One remaining binding case needs correction:

Nullable record structs. The extractor records every record_declaration as class. The nullable guard consequently exempts nullable record structs from value shadowing. A call on Nullable<T> can then bind a project static method on T, producing a false call edge.

Distinguish record struct from reference-record declarations during extraction, using the existing struct kind for value records and retaining class for reference records. The existing nullable guard can then keep the unsupported instance receiver unresolved. Add an extractor-through-resolver regression for a nullable record-struct receiver with a same-named static member, preserving the nullable reference-record case.

@giancarloerra giancarloerra removed the review-ready Maintainer-approved for CodeRabbit review label Oct 20, 2026
Every `record_declaration` was recorded as `class`, so `Pebble? Pebble`
on a `record struct` passed the nullable check as if `Pebble?` named
`Pebble` itself, and a call on the `Nullable<Pebble>` value could bind
`Pebble`'s static method. A `record struct` is now recorded as `struct`;
`record` and `record class` stay `class`.

Addressed at 4dbfc01. A record struct is now recorded as struct; record and record class stay class. A nullable record-struct receiver therefore stays an unresolved value, and a nullable reference record still reads as the record. The new extractor → resolver regression covers both cases and fails without the fix and on a mutation of the check. On the same solution, 93 record structs change kind and no edge changes.
