The cwd command-injection fix (a78541c) validated the raw cwd value at the API boundary, but ResolveCmd percent-decodes file:// paths via url.Parse afterwards. Since '%' is not in the metacharacter blocklist, an encoded payload such as "file:///dev/null%3Bid" passed validation, decoded to "/dev/null;id", and was interpolated unquoted into the "sh -c" command (TOCTOU).

Re-validate the decoded cwd in ResolveCmd, the chokepoint all exec entry points funnel through, so no shell metacharacter can reach the command regardless of encoding. Add regression tests for the known percent-encoded bypass payloads.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Working directories parsed from file:// URLs that contain shell metacharacters, including encoded characters, are now rejected. This prevents command resolution from proceeding with these paths and returns an error instead. Checks cover encoded separators, backticks, command substitution, and newlines.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

ResolveCmd now validates a parsed file:// working directory for shell metacharacters before it constructs a command. Regression tests cover five percent-encoded characters and expect an error with no resolved command.

Changes: Command resolution

Layer / File(s) Summary
Validate parsed working directories
exec/command_resolver.go, exec/command_resolver_test.go
After parsing a file:// working directory, ResolveCmd validates it for shell metacharacters. The regression test checks five encoded inputs and expects an error with no resolved command.

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 69615

The change rejects encoded shell metacharacters before command construction. No merge-blocking regression is established; the existing handling of paths containing spaces remains a separate follow-up.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 1 functions across 2 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Quote the cwd before it is interpolated into cd.

ValidateNoShellMetacharacters does not reject spaces, and cd %s inserts the path unquoted. A cwd of /projects/my project becomes cd /projects/my project; <cmd>. The shell splits the path at the space, so cd targets /projects/my or fails. Because ; separates the commands, <cmd> still runs, in the wrong directory. Quote the path in the cd call. Single quotes are safe here because the validator already rejects '. Quoting also disables tilde expansion, so check that ~ paths still work.

Update the `cd` command construction near `ValidateNoShellMetacharacters` to
quote `exec.Cwd` so paths containing spaces are treated as a single directory;
preserve the existing intended behavior for `~` paths when adding quoting.
