Require an explicit authentication mode (-use-bearer-token or -no-auth)
Why
che-machine-exec previously started with authentication disabled by default (UseBearerToken defaulted to false). An operator could therefore run it fully unauthenticated without ever making a conscious choice — and reaching /connect → /attach yields an interactive shell in a workspace container. This makes the insecure posture explicit and fail-safe instead of silent.
What changed
Added a -no-auth flag (and NO_AUTH env var) that explicitly disables authentication.
At startup, exactly one of -use-bearer-token or -no-auth must be set:
neither → fatal, refuses to start
both → fatal (mutually exclusive)
When -no-auth is active, log an exposure warning:
with -allowed-origins: note the origin check only blocks browsers; a direct client that omits the Origin header is not stopped.
without -allowed-origins: the API is open to anything that can reach the port — loopback/trusted network only, do not expose.
Config summary now prints the auth mode. Fatal logic is factored into a pure checkAuthMode for unit testing (the full binary can't init outside a cluster).
Deployments relying on the old implicit no-auth default must now opt in explicitly:
che-code / jetbrains-ide — must pass -no-auth (or NO_AUTH=true); it binds machine-exec to loopback, so this is the correct mode. Requires a matching change in both.
Unit tests for checkAuthMode (all four flag combinations) and parseAllowedOrigins.
Verified live on a minikube pod: the two fatal cases exit with the expected messages; -no-auth and -no-auth -allowed-origins emit the correct warnings and serve; -use-bearer-token starts without a warning.
Note on scope / stacking
This PR is stacked on security/csrf-cswsh-hardening (CSWSH CheckOrigin + CSRF Content-Type guard), because the -no-auth warnings reference the -allowed-origins list introduced there. Review/merge that PR first; this one targets it as its base and should be retargeted to main afterward.

Walkthrough
The configuration package adds a NoAuth setting, populated by the NO_AUTH environment variable or -no-auth flag. Startup now requires exactly one authentication mode and logs warnings when no-auth mode is enabled. Configuration output reports whether authentication is disabled.
Changes: Authentication mode configuration
Layer / File(s)
Summary
No-auth setting and inputs cfg/cfg.go
Adds NoAuth and reads its value from NO_AUTH or -no-auth. Invalid nonempty environment values are logged and leave the setting false.
Startup validation and reporting cfg/cfg.go, cfg/cfg_test.go
Startup rejects configurations with both authentication modes enabled or neither enabled. In no-auth mode, it warns that allowed origins do not restrict direct clients that omit Origin, and warns when no origins are configured. Print reports whether authentication is disabled. Tests cover authentication-mode choices and allowed-origin parsing.
eclipse-che/che-machine-exec#396: Adds AllowedOrigins configuration and origin checks, which PR #397 references when describing no-auth warnings.

Previously che-machine-exec started with authentication disabled by default
(UseBearerToken defaulted to false), so an operator could silently run it
unauthenticated. Make the choice explicit and fail-safe:
- Add a -no-auth flag (and NO_AUTH env var) that explicitly disables auth.
- At startup, require exactly one of -use-bearer-token or -no-auth. If neither
(or both) is set, refuse to start with a fatal error. There is no longer a
silent unauthenticated default.
- When -no-auth is used, warn about the exposure: without an allowed-origins
list the API is open to any client that can reach the port (loopback/trusted
network only); with an allowed-origins list, note that the origin check only
blocks browsers and does not stop a direct client that omits the Origin header.
This is a breaking change for deployments that relied on the implicit no-auth
default: they must now pass -no-auth (e.g. che-code, which binds to loopback) or
-use-bearer-token. WTO already sets USE_BEARER_TOKEN=true and is unaffected.
The fatal check is factored into checkAuthMode so it can be unit-tested without
the exec manager, which requires an in-cluster service account to initialize.

Describe the scope of the origin restriction accurately.
When AllowedOrigins is set, this warning says that access is restricted to the listed origins. The list applies to WebSocket upgrades, not the REST endpoints, and same-origin WebSocket requests remain allowed. State that it restricts cross-origin WebSocket requests instead. This prevents the warning from implying that the list protects the whole API. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
