More sounds, chosen for making something good quickly: acoustic leads, sounds with an electronic or textured character, and effects. All are CC0 or the Unlicense, and come from their authors' repositories at pinned commits. The default download grows by about 0.9 GB, to 3.1 GB (1.5 GB on disk); 22 default packs hold 253 instruments.

New default packs:

• sonicpi: the samples Sonic Pi ships with, 203 of them in 18 groups (bd sn hat ride drum elec glitch mehackit perc misc vinyl bass ambi tbd guit tabla loop arovane). The Amen and breakbeat loops are left out because they are cut from records.
• solocello (Karoryfer x Bigcat, bowed and plucked), erhu (long, short, sul tasto) and steelpan (jSteelDrum, 5 crossfaded layers).
• synthdrums (FreePats synthesizer percussion, as a kit), body (body percussion, 14 sounds) and zamenhof (Karoryfer's two glitch kits).
• miscellania: Versilian's sound effects from VSCO 2 CE, 19 groups.

Added to existing packs:

• FreePats: glasses of water and a hang.
• VCSL: 19 programs. Instruments: bowed vibraphone, hand chimes, balafon, wine glasses, ocarina, the TX81Z Clavisynth, Dan Tranh plucked and in tremolo, bowed psaltery. Percussion and effects: didgeridoo, slit drum, anvil, brake drum, finger cymbals, bell tree, ocean drum, flexatone, ratchet, siren whistles.

Installer changes the mappings needed:

• Pan, hold, decay and sustain take the controllers' defaults, as tune, attack and release already did. Karoryfer's programs set ampeg_sustain=0 and open it with a knob, and centre pan=-100 with another; without this the cello was silent after a millisecond and hard left.
• exclude works for file-name sources too, which is how the Sonic Pi loops are left out.
• base lets an instrument use a mapping file that a program in another folder includes. That gives the erhu one voice: its programs also play a second unison voice by default, which looks like a slip.
• A variation answers to its own name when that starts with its instrument's: s("vinyl_scratch") is sonicpi:vinyl:3. Other variation names such as BD5075 or C4 do not.

Corrections recorded in the registry:

• The cello and erhu maps, and VCSL's Clavisynth, sit an octave below where they sound; shifted up.
• The cello's harmonics and noises are left out.
• Sul tasto gets -16 dB and the bowed vibraphone -9 dB, to sit with the other instruments.
• The hang keeps only its own notes, as its README asks: its other notes ring along, and pitching it would move them to another scale.

Left out, for later pull requests:

• Caveman Cosmonaut, String Cyborgs and Cowsynth: their sound is in the SFZ filter, which the sampler doesn't have.
• SampleRadar's packs: opt-in, because their terms forbid redistribution.
• OpenAIR's recorded spaces: they belong with the reverb.
• AKWF's single-cycle waves: they need a wavetable oscillator to play cleanly.

The registry test's budget for the default download goes from 3,000 to 3,300 MB. That is the ~1 GB more decided for this change, not a way around the check.

How I checked:

• Every existing pack indexes identically before and after, except VCSL and FreePats, whose existing instruments are unchanged and which only gain the new ones.
• The new packs were installed into a scratch folder and auditioned (silence, NaN and octave checks); all pass.
• Pitch was measured on five notes across each new pitched instrument's range. Everything is in tune within about 20 cents, apart from a few short erhu bows.
• Levels sit within the range of the existing instruments.
• A script using the new names rendered through the engine, and every track resolved as intended (track scratch: vinyl_scratch, track body: clap, stomp ...). Its credits.txt lists all ten packs.
• New unit tests: controller defaults in both pan styles, file-glob exclusion, and variation names.
• cargo xtask ci, cargo xtask site with lychee (0 broken links) and the site's Playwright tests pass.
