Audit KSail 7.203.0 Talos fold inputs #5263

Why

The KSail update in #5250 now fails the source-audit gate after the earlier admission defect was fixed. The current failure is the intentional refusal of unaudited inputs, so retrying the old job cannot clear it.

Evidence

At PR head 057503724691f5439edabb551d054a3efc568fee, the repository-guard job rejects KSail 7.203.0 because the configuration-manager tree, go.mod and go.sum differ from the set audited at 7.202.80. Comparing immutable KSail tags shows only a vCluster image change within the configuration-manager tree plus unrelated dependency pin changes. The Talos generator, API and charts match the audited set; the Talos fold, explicit schematic-ID boundary, Go directive and Talos machinery version are unchanged.

Acceptance criteria

  • Review every changed input from KSail 7.202.80 to 7.203.0 and document why the mirrored fold remains correct.
  • Add the exact tagged input identities with the audit record; preserve rejection of changed, unreadable and incomplete source.
  • Keep both-role fold regressions, explicit and whitespace schematic-ID controls, and invalid-patch refusals passing.
  • Carry the adaptation in chore(deps): update dependency devantler-tech/ksail to v7.203.0 #5250, collect hosted validation and current-head review, then verify protected delivery separately.

Part of #4979. The old admission issue #5067 is closed and does not explain this failure.

First started: 2026-10-23. The adaptation is now in PR #5250 at c8227472d9d8f872c8453e6de1e095669308290a (audit commit 21b88bf plus a signed merge of current main).

The tagged-input audit, source guard RED/GREEN check, affected Go regressions and actual CI renderer with the checksum-verified pinned Talos client pass. Both roles, explicit/whitespace schematic IDs and invalid-patch refusals were exercised. The PR records the complete source/release review and remains draft; this issue remains open for fresh hosted validation, current-head review and protected delivery/verification.

The KSail 7.203.0 input audit is delivered through #5250. Its reviewed source head c8227472d9d8f872c8453e6de1e095669308290a merged as 5e09a8cca00adea4305cecc452a3fea12ab7c51b on 2026-10-23 at 16:17:36 UTC.

All four acceptance criteria are satisfied: the committed audit reviews every changed input and retains exact tagged identities and fail-closed source checks; the actual Talos validation job passes both production and local roles, explicit and blank schematic selection, and all four invalid-patch refusals. The source head has a clean exact-head Codex review, and its protected merge-group CI and production deployment completed successfully using KSail 7.203.0. Actual-merge Validate Main, Release, TODOs and code-quality workflows are successful.

An independent read-only follow-up confirmed that the production Flux source and its consuming reconciliation layers are current and Ready at the manifest digest published by that successful deployment. Aggregate platform health is OK. No production mutation or additional infrastructure trial was needed for this verification. Closing this audit as completed; this does not close concrete tenant-onboarding work.
