A newer version of actions/checkout exists, but since this PR has been edited by someone other than Dependabot I haven't updated it. You'll get a PR for the updated version as normal once this PR is merged.

pr-review approved on PARTIAL advisory evidence: 0/7 required advisory bots reported before the gate's no-output-head-age-timeout fallback proceeded. Recorded for the miss-rate metric (#1596).

Summary

Both reviewers approve this Dependabot bump of actions/checkout to v7.0.1. The pinned SHA matches the upstream tag and CI is green. They differ on risk: the deep reviewer says LOW and the rubber duck says MEDIUM, so the combined risk is MEDIUM. Both flagged the stale 'Refresh: ...v6.0.2' comments next to the bumped pins, though under different categories, so the findings were not merged. The rubber duck also noted that sonarcloud.yml moves from v7.0.0 to v7.0.1, and that the v7 fork-PR checkout block should be confirmed not to apply.

Findings

  • INFO: The 'Refresh:' comments above the bumped pins still reference refs/tags/v6.0.2 while the pin is now v7.0.1; harmless but stale. (.github/workflows/ci.yml:51)
  • MINOR: Stale comments 'Refresh: ...tags/v6.0.2' remain next to the bumped pins in ci.yml and copilot-setup-steps.yml. Update them to v7.0.1. (.github/workflows/ci.yml:51)
  • INFO: Earlier pr-auto-review/check-and-dispatch runs failed but were superseded by a later successful run; review-orchestration only, not code CI.
  • INFO: Auto-generated Dependabot description lacks risk/rollback/monitoring sections; expected for this PR class (rollback = revert the pin change).
  • INFO: v7 blocks fork PR checkout under pull_request_target/workflow_run. Verify that no touched workflow relies on this; copilot-setup-steps and ci passed.

Summary

Both reviewers rate this Dependabot bump of actions/checkout to v7.0.1 as MEDIUM risk and approve it. The pinned SHA matches the v7.0.1 tag, and the workflows only use push/pull_request triggers, so v7's fork-PR checkout block does not apply. Both reviewers independently flagged the stale v6.0.2 'Refresh:' comments in ci.yml as cosmetic. The rubber duck found nothing the deep reviewer missed.

Findings

  • INFO (.github/workflows/ci.yml:52): Pinned SHA 3d3c42e5aac5ba805825da76410c181273ba90b1 matches refs/tags/v7.0.1 in actions/checkout (verified via gh api), and the commit signature is verified. The trailing '# v7.0.1' comment is accurate. The head commit is authored solely by dependabot[bot] and signed by GitHub.
  • INFO (.github/workflows/sonarcloud.yml:57): v7.0.0 blocks checking out fork PRs under pull_request_target/workflow_run, and v7 runs on node24. All three changed workflows trigger only on push/pull_request, so there is no regression or security downgrade. Permissions are unchanged.
  • INFO (.github/workflows/sonarcloud.yml:54): SECRET_FORWARDING=true comes from the pre-existing job-level SONAR_TOKEN env in sonarcloud.yml. This diff doesn't touch it, and no secret is newly exposed.
  • MINOR (.github/workflows/ci.yml:51): Stale refresh comments still reference 'gh api repos/actions/checkout/git/refs/tags/v6.0.2' above the bumped pins. They should reference v7.0.1. Cosmetic only.
  • INFO (.github/workflows/ci.yml:51): The 'Refresh:' comments in ci.yml and copilot-setup-steps.yml still reference tag v6.0.2. This is cosmetic and does not affect behavior.
  • INFO: DESCRIPTION_MISSING (risk/rollback/monitoring) is expected for a Dependabot-generated body. The description has a clear title and release notes and covers one coherent change. Rollback means reverting a single pin.
  • INFO: The Dependabot PR body lacks risk/rollback/monitoring sections. This is expected for bot PRs, and the change is a trivially revertible SHA bump.
  • INFO: Two early pr-auto-review/check-and-dispatch FAILURE runs at this SHA were superseded by later successful runs. Gitleaks, Workflow regression guards, SonarCloud and copilot-setup-steps pass. No unresolved review threads.

Risk: LOW
Reviewed commit: 69b4a645b3bda2f5dc4c23a547106e3a902ee405
Review mode: triage-approved (single reviewer)

Summary

Dependabot bump of actions/checkout to v7.0.1 across 3 workflow files (ci.yml ×2, copilot-setup-steps.yml, sonarcloud.yml). The triage assessment holds: this is a pinned-SHA action bump with no logic changes. The new SHA 3d3c42e5aac5ba805825da76410c181273ba90b1 matches the upstream refs/tags/v7.0.1 (checked against the GitHub API).

Linked issue analysis

No linked issue. That's expected for a Dependabot version bump: the PR body has the upstream release notes and changelog.

Findings

  • No blocking findings.
  • v7 breaking change does not apply here. v7.0.0 blocks checking out fork PRs under pull_request_target and workflow_run. The changed workflows run on push, pull_request and the Copilot setup trigger, so they are not affected. v7.0.1 only adds hardening fixes (escaping for --unset, ASCII-only whitespace trimming of branch names).
  • Pinning policy kept. Every uses: is still pinned to a full 40-char SHA with a version comment. sonarcloud.yml moves from v7.0.0 to v7.0.1, so all workflows now use the same checkout version.
  • Nit (non-blocking): the # Refresh: gh api repos/actions/checkout/git/refs/tags/v6.0.2 ... helper comments in ci.yml (line ~51) and copilot-setup-steps.yml (line ~66) still say v6.0.2. A later cleanup could update them to v7.0.1.
  • Secret scan: the run_secret_scanning MCP tool was not available in this session. gitleaks CI passed, and the diff only changes SHAs and version comments.

CI status

All substantive checks are green on 69b4a645b3bda2f5dc4c23a547106e3a902ee405: Secret scan (gitleaks), Workflow regression guards, SonarCloud (Quality Gate passed), copilot-setup-steps ×2, AgentShield, dependency-audit, dependabot-automerge and CodeRabbit. CodeQL and cubic are neutral (CodeQL warns about missing default-setup configurations on main, which is unrelated to this change).

One pr-auto-review / check-and-dispatch run failed. It was the pull_request event run started by Dependabot, which had no secrets (GH_TOKEN empty, so checkout reported Input required and not supplied: token). This is the normal Dependabot secret restriction, not something this PR caused, and the follow-up pull_request_review run of the same check passed.

Summary

Both reviewers rate the Dependabot actions/checkout v7.0.1 bump MEDIUM risk and approve it. Both verified the pinned SHA against the v7.0.1 tag and found CI green. The categories differed, so they are kept as separate entries without a severity bump. Cascade: triage → deep+duck (triage: haiku 4.5 [sonnet 5.5, sonnet 5] → deep: opus 5.5 [opus 4.8, sonnet 5.5] + duck: gemini-3.8-flash [sonnet 5.5] → audit: opus 5.5 [opus 4.8, opus 4.7])

Summary

Both reviewers rate this Dependabot bump of actions/checkout to v7.0.1 as LOW risk and approve. Both independently verified that the new SHA matches the v7.0.1 tag and that none of the changed workflows use pull_request_target or workflow_run, so v7's fork-PR checkout block does not affect them. Both also flagged the stale 'Refresh: ... v6.0.2' comments in ci.yml, but under different categories, so the findings were not merged. The rubber duck found nothing unique.

Summary

Both reviewers rate this Dependabot bump of actions/checkout to v7.0.1 as LOW risk and approve it, so they fully agree. Both confirmed that the pinned SHA matches the upstream v7.0.1 tag. Both also found that the workflows trigger only on push and pull_request, so the v7 pull_request_target change does not apply. The two engines converged on the stale 'Refresh:' comments that still reference v6.0.2 and on the unrelated, superseded pr-auto-review failure. The rubber duck added no unique findings.

Findings

  • INFO: Checked through the GitHub API: the actions/checkout tag v7.0.1 points to commit 3d3c42e5aac5ba805825da76410c181273ba90b1, which GitHub has verified. The pin is a full SHA and has a version comment. (.github/workflows/ci.yml:52)
  • MAJOR: The 'Refresh:' helper comments still reference tag v6.0.2 (ci.yml, and copilot-setup-steps.yml per the primary reviewer). Update them to v7.0.1 so the documented refresh command matches the pin. (.github/workflows/ci.yml:51)
  • MINOR: The 'Refresh:' helper comment is out of date here too (it still says v6.0.2). (.github/workflows/copilot-setup-steps.yml:66)
  • INFO: The v7 breaking change (blocking fork-PR checkout under pull_request_target and workflow_run) does not affect these workflows, because they only trigger on push and pull_request.
  • INFO: The PR body is missing the risk, rollback and monitoring sections. The body is Dependabot-generated release notes, and for an action SHA bump rollback is simply a revert. Not blocking.
  • INFO: The MCP run_secret_scanning tool was not available in this session, so no MCP scan ran. The diff changes only action SHAs, and the gitleaks check passed.
  • MINOR: The CI and security checks pass. One historical pr-auto-review/check-and-dispatch failure is the review orchestrator itself, not caused by this diff, and later runs succeeded.

Summary

Both reviewers approve this Dependabot actions/checkout v7.0.1 bump and independently verified the pinned SHA against the tag; they differ only on risk (deep LOW, rubber duck MEDIUM), so the combined risk is MEDIUM. Both flagged the stale 'Refresh: ... v6.0.2' comments in ci.yml and copilot-setup-steps.yml, and the single failed pr-auto-review run. The rubber duck alone raised a v7 runtime-compatibility check for sonarcloud.yml and the BLOCKED merge state, which is low risk since checkout ran in passing CI jobs.
