LOLCODE spec: MAEK: variable or expression, and does the expression form mutate? #156
Found while marking the LOLCODE assignment (Fall 2026, 36 submissions). The quoted text is from lolcode/ and info/ on master.
spec/variables.rst calls it "the binary MAEK operator" applied to "an expression's value", but the syntax is MAEK <variable> [A] <type>. The bare statement MAEK guess A NUMBR appears only in the guessing-game example in index.rst, not in the Casting section, which lists only <variable> R MAEK <variable> [A] <type>. Students split three ways: bare form unsupported or a no-op, expression form re-typing the variable, MAEK not usable inside expressions.
Proposed fix: give the three forms explicitly (expression, in-place statement, cast-assignment) and say that only the statement forms change the variable.
