## Cost of a reservation

Reserving a wallet handle is free. Cloudflare does not ask for a payment method, and no charge is added to your account.

## Plan requirements

Handle reservation is open on every Cloudflare plan, including Free. You need a Cloudflare account, and nothing else.

## What a reservation includes

Reserving a handle holds the name against your Cloudflare account and registers the account to be notified when Cloudflare Wallets becomes available.

It does not create a wallet. There is no balance, no funding, no address, and no way to send or receive money. Cloudflare Wallets is not yet available to use.

## Changing a handle

Handles are allocated first come, first served, and Cloudflare does not currently offer a way to change a handle once it is reserved. This includes changing a handle after a rebrand. To ask about a change, [contact Cloudflare Support](/support/contacting-cloudflare-support/).

## Releasing a handle

Cloudflare does not currently offer a way to release a reserved handle back to the pool.

Revoking the connected application and deleting your Cloudflare account do not release a handle either. For more information, refer to [Actions that do not release a handle](/cloudflare-wallets/wallet-handles/#actions-that-do-not-release-a-handle).

## Moving a handle to another account

Cloudflare does not currently offer a way to transfer a handle between accounts, or to combine handles held by several accounts onto one account. To ask about a move, [contact Cloudflare Support](/support/contacting-cloudflare-support/).

## Rejected and reclaimed handles

Cloudflare reserves the right to reject or reclaim a handle reservation at any time, for any reason. Reserving a handle does not give you ownership of a name.

## Handles that match a brand or trademark

Reserving a handle does not grant trademark rights or ownership of a name. Trademark holders, or their legally authorized representatives, can report a reserved handle through the [Cloudflare abuse form](https://abuse.cloudflare.com/).

For the information a trademark report must contain, refer to [Complaint types](/fundamentals/reference/report-abuse/complaint-types/).

## Number of handles per account

Each Cloudflare account can reserve one handle. If your account already holds one, `cloudflare.pay` reports the existing handle instead of reserving a second.

## Information published at your handle page

A reserved handle publishes a page at `HANDLE.cloudflare.pay` that shows only the handle itself.

Cloudflare does not publish the account name, account ID, email address, or any other account detail on that page, and does not publish which account holds a reserved handle.

## Legitimacy of the cloudflare.pay domain

`cloudflare.pay` is operated by Cloudflare. It is a separate domain from `cloudflare.com`, which is why some people report it as a phishing site.

You are never asked for your Cloudflare password on `cloudflare.pay`. Reserving a handle redirects you to `dash.cloudflare.com` to sign in and authorize a read-only application. For the checks to make before you authorize anything, refer to [Reserve a wallet handle](/cloudflare-wallets/reserve-a-wallet-handle/).

## Access granted to the reservation site

The application reads your user details, your account memberships, and your account settings. It cannot change your configuration, and it has no access to your zones, billing, or payment methods.

You can review the authorization in the Cloudflare dashboard under **Manage Account** > **Access Management** > **Connected Applications**.

## Capitalization of a handle

Handles are not case-sensitive. Cloudflare stores and displays every handle in lowercase, so `Example` and `example` are the same handle. Capitalization is not part of a handle.

## Handles rejected for containing an ordinary word

Cloudflare filters handles that contain reserved words or offensive terms, and both filters match on substrings. An ordinary word or a personal name that happens to contain a filtered term can be rejected.

For the full rules, refer to [Wallet handle requirements](/cloudflare-wallets/wallet-handle-requirements/).

## Errors during the reservation flow

The reservation flow uses a short-lived session that expires a few minutes after you start it. If you see a session or state error, return to [cloudflare.pay](https://cloudflare.pay/) and start again.

The flow also needs cookies from `cloudflare.pay` and a redirect back from `dash.cloudflare.com`. If sign-in fails repeatedly, retry in a browser session that allows cookies and does not block redirects.

## Agent identifiers

The [Cloudflare Wallets announcement](https://blog.cloudflare.com/wallets/) describes giving individual agents their own identifiers beneath an account handle. Handle reservation covers the account handle only.

<Description>

A programmable wallet that gives your Cloudflare account and its AI agents a stable identity and a way to pay for APIs and content.

</Description>

:::note

Cloudflare Wallets is not yet available to use. Wallet handle reservation is the only part of Cloudflare Wallets that is open today.

:::

AI agents struggle to buy things. They have no stable identifier to sign up with, and no native way to pay. Cloudflare Wallets addresses both problems. A wallet holds funds and enforces spending rules, and a wallet handle gives the account behind an agent a human-readable name that merchants can recognize.

Handles are allocated first come, first served. Reserving a handle holds the name against your Cloudflare account. It does not create a wallet, hold funds, or move money.

## What is available today

You can reserve one wallet handle for each Cloudflare account at [cloudflare.pay](https://cloudflare.pay/). A reserved handle:

- Holds the name against your Cloudflare account
- Publishes a page at `HANDLE.cloudflare.pay` showing only the handle
- Registers your account to be notified when Cloudflare Wallets becomes available

A reserved handle does not yet let you send, receive, or hold funds.

For the full description of what Cloudflare Wallets, Account Wallets, and Virtual Wallets will do, refer to the [Cloudflare Wallets announcement](https://blog.cloudflare.com/wallets/).

description: Reserve a Cloudflare Wallets handle for your account at cloudflare.pay, and confirm which Cloudflare account the handle attaches to.

import { Steps } from "~/components";

Reserving a wallet handle holds a human-readable name against your Cloudflare account, ready for when Cloudflare Wallets becomes available.

:::caution

Handles are allocated first come, first served, and Cloudflare does not currently offer a way to change, release, or transfer a handle once it is reserved. For more information, refer to [Wallet handles](/cloudflare-wallets/wallet-handles/).

:::

## Prerequisites

You need a Cloudflare account. Handle reservation is open on every plan, including Free. To create an account, refer to [Create a Cloudflare account](/fundamentals/account/create-account/).

Confirm which Cloudflare account you want the handle attached to. If your user belongs to more than one account, sign out of the Cloudflare dashboard first, then sign in to the account you intend to use.

## Reserve a handle

<Steps>

1. Go to [cloudflare.pay](https://cloudflare.pay/).

2. Enter the handle you want. The site checks availability as you type and reports whether the handle is available, already taken, reserved, or invalid.

For the rules that determine whether a handle is accepted, refer to [Wallet handle requirements](/cloudflare-wallets/wallet-handle-requirements/).

3. Select the option to reserve the handle. Cloudflare redirects you to `dash.cloudflare.com` to sign in.

4. Sign in to Cloudflare, then review and grant the requested access. The application is named **Cloudflare Wallet Launch Site**.

5. Confirm the reservation. Cloudflare returns you to `cloudflare.pay` and shows the reserved handle.

</Steps>

A reserved handle publishes a page at `HANDLE.cloudflare.pay` that shows only the handle. Your account name, account ID, and email address are not published.

## Confirm you are on the genuine site

`cloudflare.pay` is operated by Cloudflare. Because it is a different domain from `cloudflare.com`, and because it asks you to sign in to Cloudflare, it is reasonable to treat it with suspicion. Check the following before you authorize anything:

- **You are never asked for your Cloudflare password on `cloudflare.pay`.** Reserving a handle sends you to `dash.cloudflare.com`, and you sign in there. Confirm the address bar reads `dash.cloudflare.com` before entering credentials.
- **The authorization screen is a standard Cloudflare OAuth consent screen** hosted on `dash.cloudflare.com`, listing the application name and the access it requests.
- **The requested access is read-only.** The application reads your user details, your account memberships, and your account settings. It cannot change your configuration, read your zones, or access billing or payment methods.

If a site asks for your Cloudflare password, an API token, or a two-factor code on any domain other than `dash.cloudflare.com`, do not enter it.

## Review the authorization

To review the access you granted, go to the [Cloudflare dashboard](https://dash.cloudflare.com/), then select **Manage Account** > **Access Management** > **Connected Applications**. The **Cloudflare Wallet Launch Site** entry appears there once you have reserved a handle.

Revoking the application removes its access to your account. It does not release your reserved handle. For more information, refer to [Actions that do not release a handle](/cloudflare-wallets/wallet-handles/#actions-that-do-not-release-a-handle).

title: Wallet handle requirements
pcx_content_type: reference
description: Length, character, and reserved name rules that determine whether a Cloudflare Wallets handle can be reserved, and why a handle may be unavailable.
products:
- cloudflare-wallets
sidebar:
order: 4
---

A wallet handle must satisfy every rule on this page before it can be reserved.

## Format rules

Handles follow these rules:

| Rule | Requirement |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Length | 3 to 32 characters |
| Characters | Lowercase letters `a` to `z`, digits `0` to `9`, and the hyphen (`-`) only |
| Hyphens | Cannot be the first or last character, and cannot appear twice in a row |
| Encoding | ASCII only. Accented letters, non-Latin scripts, emoji, and spaces are invalid |

## Handles are not case-sensitive

Cloudflare converts a handle to lowercase before checking and storing it. `Example`, `EXAMPLE`, and `example` are the same handle.

Every handle is stored and displayed in lowercase. Capitalization is not part of a handle, so there is no capitalized form of a handle to reserve.

## Reserved handles

Cloudflare holds back a set of handles. These include Cloudflare product, service, and brand names, along with common infrastructure and administrative terms such as `admin`, `api`, `support`, and `www`.

Reserved matching is not limited to exact matches. A handle that **contains** a reserved word is also unavailable. For example, a handle containing `cloudflare` or a Cloudflare product name is rejected even when it is combined with other words.

## Filtered handles

Cloudflare rejects handles that appear to contain offensive terms. The filter also inspects common character substitutions, so a term disguised with digits or symbols is still caught.

The filter matches on substrings, so an ordinary word or a personal name that happens to contain a filtered term can be rejected. Cloudflare refines the filter over time. If a handle is rejected, reserve a variation instead.

## Why a handle may be unavailable

A handle can be unavailable for one of the following reasons:

| Outcome | Cause |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Invalid | The handle breaks one of the format rules |
| Reserved | Cloudflare holds the handle, or the handle contains a reserved word |
| Not allowed | The handle matched the offensive term filter |
| Already taken | Another Cloudflare account reserved the handle first |
| Account has a name | Your account already reserved a handle. Each account can reserve only one name |

Cloudflare does not publish which account holds a reserved handle.
