gRPC for .NET is now the recommended implementation!

Starting from May 2021, gRPC for .NET is the recommended implemention of gRPC for C#. The original gRPC for C# implementation (distributed as the Grpc.Core nuget package) is now in maintenance mode and will be deprecated in the future. See blogpost for more details.

Nope, it's news to me! Thank you for bringing it up - I'm not really plugged into the gRPC ecosystem. I'll have a look.

Do you have an update on the status of this (planned or low priority)? Happy to help if there’s anything I can take on to move it along.

The current kind-of-blocker is that we like using buf generate together with remote plugins to generate the client code. Buf doesn't currently have a plugin that supports generation using the new library, which would require moving this package to use buf export + C# native tooling to generate the client based on the exported proto.

I'm not familiar enough with C# tooling to know how this would look off the top of my head. I'm sure I could figure it out but it hasn't been a priority recently. If you've got time and energy I'd welcome some help with it - I'm happy to answer any questions about how the buf stuff works.
