[CI] Github Copilot automatic reviews use the pullrequest creator's tokens #52357

Open

Description

@Alex-PLACET

Describe the enhancement requested

When a pull request is created, GitHub Copilot is automatically requested to perform a review. The issue here is not the quality of that review, but who pays for it. Currently, it appears that the pull request creator’s Copilot token quota is being used. To avoid this, Copilot reviews should only be requested explicitly by maintainers.

    Would it be possible (and a good option) to have the first Copilot run automatic but any further (most probably pre-merge) Copilot review to be be requested by a maintainer?

    I don't think such a configuration exists it must be done manually as far as I know. Unless we want to build some automation to automatically request copilot reviews.

    I think you need a bot which will request a copilot review in the name of Apache Arrow.

    Do we wanna move this discussion to the dev mailing list? I can see reasons for and against different approaches and it feels like this could be a project level decision to make.
