How to start coding?
VSCode is the main IDE we'll use throughout the tutorials. It is a text editor (similar to NotePad), but it comes with a lot of different functions and extensions to allow you to edit, debug, compile, and run your code. You can install it here.
As we will start to learn how to work with multiple .c files in Tutorial 1 and your homework. That means you'll have to start compiling C code.
You can either install the GCC compiler:
- Windows
- Or refer to homework arrangements for more guides.
Or create a workspace on Github Codespace if you find install the C compiler troublesome (unless you already have it installed). The environment is similar to VSCode.
For robotics programming, we will teach you to install VSCode's STM32 extension.
You are recommended to set it up now, but we will make sure your installation works in the first tutorial.
(We hope that it does not take too long for you to setup)
Alternatively, here's a link to STM32CubeIDE, a IDE made for STM32 embedded systems: official STM32CubeIDE installation guide.
We recommend you downloading the VSCode exntension tho due to it being simpler to configure.
