fix(input): sniff UTF-8/UTF-16LE/UTF-16BE BOMs in plan/steps/code/password readers - #628

…sword readers Windows PowerShell 5.1's `>` redirection (the default shell on Windows 10/11) writes UTF-16LE with a BOM, and the CLI's own docs suggest exactly that redirection for creating plan files. Every input reader decoded UTF-8 unconditionally, so the CLI's own template failed its own lint. One shared reader (src/lib/text-file.ts) now sniffs the BOM and decodes accordingly; wired into the plan-from/plan-dir/plans-JSONL/steps/code and password-file readers. BOM-less UTF-8 files decode byte-for-byte unchanged. DOCUMENTATION.md notes the encoding behavior. Fixes TestSprite#463.
WalkthroughThe CLI adds shared BOM-aware decoding for UTF-8, UTF-16LE, and UTF-16BE files. Several file readers use the decoder. Tests cover encoded plans and decoder behavior. Documentation describes PowerShell 5.1 redirection encoding and UTF-8 alternatives. ChangesBOM-aware text input

…failures CodeRabbit review follow-up: an odd trailing byte in UTF-16BE input made swap16() throw an untyped ERR_INVALID_BUFFER_SIZE that bypassed the capped readers' validation diagnostics. The decoder now rejects the incomplete code unit explicitly, readCappedFileGuarded maps decode failures to a typed localValidationError, and the project password-file reader gets the same guard.

readPlansFromDirGuardeddecodes each file atsrc/commands/test.ts:5192, then comparesassembled.lengthatsrc/commands/test.ts:5277-5278. A UTF-16LE or UTF-16BE file can therefore exceed the 5 MB raw-byte cap while its decoded JSON remains below the limit. The later request check also measures the decoded UTF-8 body, so it does not close this gap. Accumulate raw byte counts with the existing capped reader before decoding.Suggested fix

Season 4 CLI Improvement Bonus
weili_yang33What does this PR do?
Fixes #463 — every input reader decoded UTF-8 unconditionally, but Windows PowerShell 5.1's
>redirection (the default shell on Windows 10/11, and the exact command in our own DOCUMENTATION.md) writes UTF-16LE with a BOM. The CLI's own template failed its own lint. One shared reader (
src/lib/text-file.ts) now sniffs UTF-8 / UTF-16LE / UTF-16BE BOMs and decodes accordingly; it is wired into the plan-from, plan-from-dir, plans-JSONL, steps, code-file and password-file readers. BOM-less UTF-8 files decode byte-for-byte unchanged. DOCUMENTATION.md notes the encoding behavior and suggestsOut-File -Encoding utf8/pwshfor other tools. No new dependency. How was it tested?
New integration tests (
src/commands/test.bom-input.spec.ts) run the same plan JSON throughrunLintin four encodings; verified failing before the fix (UTF-16LE/BE red, UTF-8 variants green) and passing after:>)src/lib/text-file.spec.ts): all four encodings round-trip, BOM-less passthrough, empty buffernpx vitest runfull suite: 4800 passed / 0 failed (11 platform-skips on Windows)tsc --noEmit: cleanSummary by CodeRabbit
