Closes #482

Tracks CSI/SS3 and two-byte Alt+key escape sequences in readLine and drops each whole sequence, so cursor/editing and bracketed-paste markers no longer leak into the typed answer. Enter and Ctrl-C keep priority.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Presigned code and artifact downloads now reject malformed, insecure, local, or disallowed URLs before making network requests.
    • Redirects are no longer followed during presigned downloads.
    • Terminal control sequences and Alt-key sequences are filtered from prompt responses, preventing unwanted characters from appearing in answers.

  • I'm entering this PR for the Season 4 CLI Improvement Bonus

Walkthrough

The pull request adds validation for presigned download URLs and rejects redirects in the test command. It also changes prompt input handling to discard terminal escape sequences instead of adding their bytes to answers.

Changes

Download URL validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Validate presigned download targets
src/lib/bundle.ts, src/commands/test.ts
The bundle download path validates URLs before retrying or fetching. The test command rejects malformed or disallowed URLs and sets the fetch redirect policy to error.

Prompt escape filtering

Layer / File(s) Summary
Filter terminal escape input
src/lib/prompt.ts
readLine discards CSI, SS3, and two-byte Alt-key sequences. Enter and Ctrl-C retain priority over unfinished escape sequences.

Change: Bug fix · Severity of issue fixed: Medium

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 15c65

The new protection for downloaded test artifacts and code blocks direct private IP addresses. It still allows hostnames that resolve to internal or loopback addresses, so the safeguard does not fully deliver its stated guarantee. Validate the resolved address in both download paths before merging. Prompt input filtering is not affected.

Explanation

Issue #482 requires complete CSI/SS3 and two-byte Alt+key filtering in readLine, persistent state across chunks, Enter and Ctrl-C priority, and Vitest coverage for promptText and promptSecret, including raw-mode mask output. src/lib/prompt.ts implements the required state machine and priority. However, src/lib/prompt.test.ts contains no tests for escape sequences, either prompt type, or raw-mode mask output. The reviewed changes therefore do not establish the required automated coverage.

Resolution

Add Vitest cases for promptText and promptSecret that cover CSI, SS3, two-byte Alt+key sequences, sequences split across chunks, bracketed-paste markers, Delete, Enter and Ctrl-C priority, and raw-mode masking with no mask output for dropped bytes.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The linked issue #482 is limited to prompt input handling in src/lib/prompt.ts and its tests. The reviewed changes also modify src/lib/bundle.ts and src/commands/test.ts to validate presigned download URLs, reject non-HTTPS or disallowed targets, and reject redirects. These changes concern artifact and code download SSRF protection, not prompt input handling.

Resolution

Remove the presigned-download validation changes from this pull request, or submit them in a separate pull request with the relevant linked issue.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 25.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 4 functions across 2 files. (1 skipped: 1 too large.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Validate DNS-resolved addresses for presigned downloads.

Both assertSafeDownloadUrl implementations call net.isIP(host) on URL.hostname. A hostname returns 0, so fetchImpl can resolve and connect to a loopback or private address without rejection. The global EnvHttpProxyAgent only provides proxy routing. It does not validate resolved addresses. The DNS check in target-url-preflight.ts applies to --target-url, not these downloads.

The URLs come from backend response fields, including FailureContext artifact fields and the presigned CliTestCode.code field. The generic instruction about secrets and hard-coded credentials does not address this SSRF contract and should not be cited.

The bundle guard documents that disallowed URLs must not leave the machine. Validate every address selected at connection time in both download paths. Preserve the original hostname for TLS/SNI and prevent DNS rebinding between validation and connection. Add coverage for hostnames resolving to disallowed IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
