Closes #452

Requires https and rejects loopback/link-local/RFC1918 and classified IPv6 forms before fetching presigned artifact/code URLs, and sets redirect: 'error' on the code download so an https URL cannot 302 to an internal address.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved security for presigned code and artifact downloads by validating URLs before fetching.
    • Rejected malformed, non-HTTPS, localhost, and disallowed IP addresses.
    • Prevented downloads from following redirects.

  • I'm entering this PR for the Season 4 CLI Improvement Bonus

Walkthrough

Bundle artifact and presigned code downloads now validate URLs before fetching. The checks reject malformed URLs, non-HTTPS schemes, localhost, and disallowed IP addresses. Presigned code downloads also reject redirects.

Changes

Download URL validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Bundle artifact download validation
src/lib/bundle.ts
assertSafeDownloadUrl rejects malformed URLs, non-HTTPS schemes, localhost, and disallowed IP addresses. streamUrlToFileTracked validates each URL before fetch or retry handling.
Presigned code download validation
src/commands/test.ts
The presigned code download rejects malformed URLs, non-HTTPS schemes, localhost, and IP addresses rejected by disallowedIpReason. Fetch rejects redirects.

Artifact and code downloads now require HTTPS and reject literal internal IP addresses. A hostname that resolves to an internal address is still fetched, however, so the SSRF protection promised by the linked issue is incomplete. Add DNS-resolution checks to both download paths before merging, or explicitly accept the gap.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The supplied change summary lists changes only in src/lib/bundle.ts and src/commands/test.ts. The changes validate presigned artifact and code URLs and block code redirects, which directly implement issue #452. No unrelated change is evidenced.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #452 requires HTTPS validation, disallowed-IP checks, hostname resolution with validation of resolved addresses, redirect: 'error' for code downloads, and regression tests. The supplied summary supports HTTPS checks, localhost and disallowedIpReason checks, and code redirect blocking in src/lib/bundle.ts and src/commands/test.ts. It does not show hostname resolution for artifact downloads. The bundle source imports node:net and disallowedIpReason, but no DNS resolver is shown. The summary lists no changed test file, so the required regressions are not evidenced. The no-new-dependency requirement is consistent with the listed changes.

Resolution

Before merging, resolve each artifact and code hostname before fetch, classify every resolved address with disallowedIpReason, and reject any disallowed result. Add automated regressions for the metadata artifact URL not calling fetch and for a presigned code redirect not being followed.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 33.33% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 3 functions across 1 files. (1 skipped: 1 too large.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Validate resolved addresses before code downloads.

If a presigned HTTPS hostname resolves to a private or link-local address, net.isIP(host) returns 0. readPresignedBody then passes the URL to fetchImpl, which can connect to that address despite redirect: 'error'. Resolve and classify the hostname’s addresses, and bind the connection to an approved result. Apply the check to each new connection. Node fetch supports a custom dispatcher for connection control. (nodejs.org)

The PR objective requires validation of resolved hostname addresses. Based on learnings: “pin each connection's resolved DNS address via a custom lookup hook.”

Validate resolved addresses before artifact downloads.

If a presigned HTTPS hostname resolves to a private or link-local address, net.isIP(host) returns 0. The guard then permits the download, and fetchImpl can connect to that address. Resolve and classify the hostname’s addresses before the request. Ensure the connection uses an approved address so a later DNS lookup cannot bypass the check. Node fetch supports a custom dispatcher for connection control. (nodejs.org)

The PR objective requires validation of resolved hostname addresses. Based on learnings: “pin each connection's resolved DNS address via a custom lookup hook.”
