What does this PR do?

Fixes secret credential leakage in redactDeep (used for API error details and --debug traces):

  1. Redact string arrays under secret-named keys: Previously, typeof v === 'string' only checked single strings. When a secret key contained an array of strings (e.g. { cookies: ["..."], tokens: ["..."] }), typeof v was 'object', so redactDeep traversed into array elements where the secret key context was lost, leaking all secret strings in plaintext. Now redactSecretValue masks string arrays under secret keys while preserving recursion into plain objects (e.g. objects with non-secret sibling fields like username).
  2. Add plural and compound secret keys: Expands SECRET_KEY_SUFFIXES and SECRET_TOKEN_KEYS with standard plural forms (cookies, set-cookies, secrets, passwords, apikeys, api_keys, tokens, authtokens, accesstokens, refreshtokens).
  3. Support null-prototype objects: Replaces value.constructor === Object with isPlainObject(value) checking Object.getPrototypeOf(value) === Object.prototype || proto === null, ensuring objects created via Object.create(null) are properly redacted.

Checklist

  • PR targets the main branch.
  • Commits follow Conventional Commits (feat(...), fix(...), docs(...), …).
  • npm run lint and npm run format:check pass.
  • npm run typecheck passes.
  • npm test passes and coverage stays at or above the 80% gate.
  • New behavior is covered by unit tests (mock-based; no network or credentials required).
  • No secrets, API keys, internal endpoints, or personal data are included.
  • User-facing changes are reflected in README.md / DOCUMENTATION.md where relevant.

Notes for reviewers

All 19 test assertions in src/lib/redact.spec.ts pass, all codebase checks (typecheck, lint, format:check, check-ticket-refs.mjs) pass cleanly, and total test coverage remains comfortably above the 80% threshold.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Expanded secret detection to cover plural and hyphenated password, secret, API key, cookie, and authentication-token names.
    • Secret values are now redacted recursively in strings, arrays, and objects, while non-secret sibling fields remain visible.
    • Improved redaction support for objects with null prototypes.

Walkthrough

Secret-key matching now covers additional plural and compound forms. redactDeep recursively redacts matched strings in arrays and plain objects, including null-prototype objects. Tests cover these cases and verify that non-secret sibling fields remain unchanged.

Changes

Secret-value redaction

Layer / File(s) Summary
Expanded secret-key matching
src/lib/redact.ts, src/lib/redact.spec.ts
Secret-key matching includes plural forms for passwords, secrets, API keys, cookies, and listed token keys. Tests cover plural and hyphenated variants.
Recursive redaction of secret values
src/lib/redact.ts, src/lib/redact.spec.ts
Matched values are recursively redacted in arrays and plain objects. Plain-object detection includes null-prototype objects. Tests cover nested arrays, null-prototype objects, and object arrays under secret keys.

Explanation

Issue [#531] requires redaction of secret string arrays, plural and compound secret keys, null-prototype objects, and unit tests. src/lib/redact.ts adds redactSecretValue, which masks strings in arrays and recursively processes plain objects. It adds the required key forms, including normalized set-cookies and api_keys. isPlainObject accepts Object.prototype and null prototypes. src/lib/redact.spec.ts tests these cases, including non-secret sibling preservation and input immutability.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within issue [#531]. The added key variants, recursive helper, null-prototype handling, and unit tests directly support credential redaction. No unrelated product behavior or unrelated files appear in the reviewed changes.

Exclude all documented presence fields from secret-key matching.

The suffix check also matches hasPasswords, hasSecrets, and hasApiKeys, so their string values become [REDACTED]. Excluding only hasCookies and hasCredentials would leave the same documented substring-redaction defect.

Add all known presence-field names to the shared matcher exception. This preserves standalone plural secret keys and exact compound token names such as accessTokens.
