Season 4 CLI Improvement Bonus

  • I'm entering this PR for the Season 4 CLI Improvement Bonus
  • Discord username: luckyzd

What does this PR do?

With 51 rerun requests, the first 50 can be accepted before the final chunk fails. The CLI previously discarded those acknowledged run IDs from ordinary dispatch-error output, even though the runs may still execute.

Emit recovery information before propagating the original dispatch error in both ordinary and owned-tunnel reruns. Preserve acknowledged outcomes, merged dependency closure data, and deduplicated server advisories. Separate uncertain failedChunkTestIds from notAttemptedTestIds, retaining unconfirmedTestIds; text output names the groups separately. Preserve the failure exit code and request ID, and scope a rewritten 404 to the failed chunk.

Tunnel capacity-wait failures classify the current unsent group as not attempted. Partial CI summaries and JUnit reports distinguish uncertain dispatches from skipped tests. Keep the existing cancellation and tunnel-close sequence, and retain terminal statuses observed during capacity polling. Before cleanup, print copyable wait/cancel commands for all acknowledged run IDs to stderr, including when automatic cancellation later fails. Document the partial-output helper and offline tunnel fixture.

Related issue

Closes #405

This implementation is ready for review. The issue is still awaiting maintainer triage and assignment; this PR does not claim acceptance or bypass the contribution gate.

Scope distinction: #380 concerns successful dispatch responses followed by a false-success wait result. #80's remaining journal proposal concerns recovery after process loss. This change handles a later dispatch failure while prior responses are still in memory; it adds no persistent journal.

Validation

  • Focused rerun and environment-tunnel suites: 129 passed. Coverage includes explicit IDs / --all, JSON / text, second- and third-group failures, capacity timeout, advisory deduplication, closure merging, CI/JUnit output, recovery hints before cleanup, cancellation failure, and tunnel cleanup.
  • npm run test:coverage: 4,605 passed, 2 skipped (116 files); 89.82% statements, 84.83% branches, 83.32% functions, 92.05% lines.
  • npm run test:e2e: 103 passed, 1 skipped (10 files); local facade/S3/tunnel fixtures only.
  • npm run typecheck, npm run build, npm run lint, npm run format:check: passed.
  • Existing compiled-CLI 51-test reproduction and success/first-failure controls remain covered by the earlier evidence; all new tunnel regressions use injected offline fixtures.

Bug fix. Discord / GitHub: luckyzd.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Batch reruns now report results from runs accepted before a later dispatch failure, while distinguishing failed, unattempted, and unconfirmed tests. Partial results and deduplicated advisories are available in text and JSON output. For accepted runs, the command provides recovery options; tunnel runs report dispatch status and cleanup details.
  • Documentation
    • Updated rerun guidance to explain --no-auto-heal advisories, partial dispatch failures, and the results and recovery information provided.

Walkthrough

The test rerun command now reports acknowledged runs when a later dispatch chunk fails. Partial output distinguishes failed-request tests from tests not attempted. It preserves failure details and provides recovery guidance.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

The PR meets the coding requirements in #405. src/commands/test.ts emits partial results after a later dispatch failure and preserves accepted run IDs, request ID, exit code, advisories, closure data, and separate failedChunkTestIds, notAttemptedTestIds, and unconfirmedTestIds. src/lib/environment-tunnel.ts carries these fields into partial CI and JUnit output, prints wait/cancel commands before cleanup, and keeps tunnel cleanup with the caller. The added tests cover explicit IDs, --all, both wait modes, later failures, first-chunk failure, text and JSON output, authentication errors, and recovery hints.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within #405. The source changes implement partial rerun recovery and tunnel-specific reporting. The tests and offline tunnel fixture verify the requested dispatch, cleanup, CI, JUnit, advisory, and cancellation behavior. The documentation describes the new partial-output contract. No persistent journal or unrelated successful-dispatch wait-result change is added.

Preserve partial-dispatch details for tunnel reruns.

Local reruns enter withEnvironmentTunnel, so a later chunk failure can reach emitEnvironmentDispatchPartial after earlier chunks were acknowledged. The tunnel emitter combines failed and unattempted IDs into notRunTestIds and omits failedChunkTestIds, notAttemptedTestIds, unconfirmedTestIds, closure data, and advisories. Users therefore lose the information needed to avoid blindly retrying an uncertain failed request and the warnings from acknowledged chunks.

Update emitEnvironmentDispatchPartial to emit the same separated partial fields, closure data, and deduplicated advisories as the non-tunnel path. Keep the existing tunnel cleanup path.

Document request-serving helpers and their rejection of unexpected polling. These are comment-only changes: transpiled executable output is identical. Typecheck, build, lint, format and 129 focused tests pass; full-suite and E2E validation remain covered by the preceding functional commit.

Thanks @luckyzd for the work and thorough tests. We're closing without merging: #405 concerns code that exists only in test rerun, which is being folded into test run and removed in 1.0, so we're not taking rerun-only changes. The PR also adds a lot of new surface (classification, CI/JUnit output, tunnel cancellation ordering). The core invariant will be carried into the multi-id test run work.
