Smart Apply is a browser extension designed to optimize the job application process on LinkedIn. It parses active job descriptions, contextually analyzes them against a user's stored resume, and generates tailored cover letters and specific answers to application questions using LLMs.
Built with a "write once, run everywhere" architecture supporting both Chromium (Chrome, Edge, Brave) and Gecko (Firefox) engines via Manifest V3.
- Smart Parsing: Automatically detects and extracts job descriptions, titles, and company names from the obfuscated LinkedIn DOM.
- Contextual Generation: Uses a persistent "User Profile" (your resume/experience) to write cover letters that actually reference your specific skills relative to the job requirements.
- Targeted Q&A: Highlight any question in an application form (e.g., "Why do you want to work here?"), right-click, and generate a specific answer based on your profile.
- Cross-Browser Support: automated build system generates compliant manifests for both Chrome (Service Worker) and Firefox (Background Scripts).
- Privacy First: Resume data is stored in
chrome.storage.localand never leaves the browser except to the AI endpoint for generation.
- Core: Vanilla JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3
- Architecture: Manifest V3
- Compatibility:
webextension-polyfillfor Promise-based APIs across browsers. - Build System: Node.js custom script for merging manifest configurations.
- AI Integration: Google Gemini API (Model: gemini-2.5-flash).
