Vendors the `storybook-dark-mode` addon into the monorepo as a workspace package and points `@rocket.chat/storybook-config` and `@rocket.chat/livechat` at it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Extends `@rocket.chat/tsconfig/client.json` instead of duplicating compiler options, and drops the `rimraf` dependency in favor of `rm -rf`. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Learning: In this repository (RocketChat/Rocket.Chat), Biome lint rules are not used even if a biome.json exists. When reviewing TypeScript files (e.g., packages/ui-voip/src/providers/useMediaSession.ts), ensure lint suggestions do not reference Biome-specific rules. Rely on general ESLint/TypeScript lint rules and project conventions instead.

Learning: Field wrappers in rocket.chat/fuselage-forms (Field, FieldLabel, FieldRow, FieldError, FieldHint) auto-create htmlFor/id associations, aria-describedby, and role="alert" for errors. Do not manually set htmlFor, id, aria-describedby, or role attributes when using these wrappers. This automatic wiring does not apply to plain rocket.chat/fuselage components, which require explicit ID wiring per the accessibility docs. In code reviews, prefer using fuselage-forms wrappers for form fields and verify there is no unnecessary manual ID/aria wiring in files that use these wrappers. If a component uses plain fuselage components, ensure proper id wiring as per docs.

Learning: In Rocket.Chat’s monorepo, when reviewing a dependency entry and flagging that a specific version “does not exist” (e.g., in package.json), first verify the exact package/version directly against the npm registry (use URLs like https://registry.npmjs.org/<package>/<version> or https://www.npmjs.com/package/<package>/v/<version>). Learning: During code reviews that check whether a dependency version exists in package.json (especially for Rocket.Chat’s rocket.chat/fuselage and related rocket.chat/fuselage-* packages), don’t rely on web search results. Instead, verify the version directly against the npm registry (e.g., via the npm registry API or the canonical package URL https://www.npmjs.com/package/<package>/v/<version>) before deciding that a version bump is invalid. If the version is present in the npm registry, do not flag it as invalid.

Learning: In Rocket.Chat, there are two different `ModalBackdrop` components with different prop APIs. During review, confirm the import source: (1) `rocket.chat/fuselage` `ModalBackdrop` uses `ModalBackdropProps` based on `BoxProps` (so it supports `onClick` and other Box/DOM props) and does not have an `onDismiss` prop; (2) `rocket.chat/ui-client` `ModalBackdrop` uses a narrower props interface like `{ children?: ReactNode; onDismiss?: () => void }` and handles Escape keypress and outside mouse-up, and it does not forward arbitrary DOM props such as `onClick`. Flag mismatched props (e.g., `onDismiss` passed to the fuselage component or `onClick` passed to the ui-client component) and ensure the usage matches the correct component being imported.

…ation Three things the copy from Fuselage left behind: - `repository.url` still pointed at `RocketChat/fuselage`; - `storybook` was not declared at all, even though the source imports `storybook/preview-api`, `storybook/manager-api`, `storybook/theming` and three `storybook/internal/*` paths — it only resolved through root hoisting. Declared as a devDependency so the package builds standalone, and as a peerDependency to encode the Storybook 9 host contract; - the per-package `volta` pin was missing, so the repo's Node version was not picked up inside the package directory. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
`Window.matchMedia` is non-optional in `lib.dom`, so TypeScript erased the `?.` from the resulting type and `prefersDark` was already `MediaQueryList` rather than `MediaQueryList | undefined` — which is what the unguarded `.matches` and `.addListener()` uses downstream rely on. Removing it makes the call agree with the type. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
`@rocket.chat/tsconfig/client.json` turns `declaration` and `declarationMap` on, so all three `tsc` passes emitted `.d.ts` and `.d.ts.map` files. Only the third one is referenced: `types` points at `dist/ts/index.d.ts`, leaving the copies in `dist/esm` and `dist/cjs` as dead weight in the tarball. Turned off for the two passes that only need JS, so `dist/ts` is the single source of types. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Proposed changes (including videos or screenshots)
storybook-dark-modeis the seventh package in the Fuselage migration — another leaf with no internal dependencies. The code comes fromRocketChat/fuselageat version4.2.1, where it lives as a fork of hipstersmoothie/storybook-dark-mode (MIT, Andrew Lisowski) — Fuselage took it over in fuselage#1849 and has carried it on its own4.xline since.Worth being explicit about what this replaces, because it is not a like-for-like swap of a package we already had.
@rocket.chat/storybook-configand@rocket.chat/livechatwere consuming the upstream addon,storybook-dark-mode@^5.0.0from npm, which resolved to5.0.0— and that release declarespeerDependencies: { storybook: "^10.0.0" }while this repo is on Storybook9.1.20. The Fuselage fork is the branch of this addon that actually targets Storybook 9 (it imports fromstorybook/internal/*,storybook/manager-apiandstorybook/theming). So this both brings the package in-tree and puts the consumers on the copy built for the Storybook version we run.Five commits:
chore: migrate @rocket.chat/storybook-dark-mode from Fuselage— the package lands atpackages/storybook-dark-modewith its source,preset.js, changelog, LICENSE and build configs. Noworkspacesglob entry was needed: the rootpackage.jsonalready globspackages/*.dist/and.turbo/are gitignored, so only the twelve tracked files show up. The same commit flips both consumers to@rocket.chat/storybook-dark-mode— twopackage.jsonentries, the addon id inpackages/storybook-config/src/main.tsandpackages/livechat/.storybook/main.ts, and theuseDarkMode/DARK_MODE_EVENT_NAMEimports inpreview.tsxandDocsContainer.tsx.Relative to the Fuselage source the code is unchanged in behaviour. Apart from the
matchMediacall in commit 5 below, everything that differs is local convention:Tool.tsx.interfacedeclarations becometypealiases, per docs/frontend/typescript-conventions.md.eslint-disable-next-line @typescript-eslint/no-unused-varson theimport * as Reactinsrc/preset/manager.tsx, which is needed for the classic JSX runtime but reads as unused here.lint/lint:fixreplace Fuselage'slint-allworkspace binary with plaineslint ., matching@rocket.chat/storybook-config.eslint,prettierand the React@typespin to this repo's versions. The addon's public surface is untouched:
useDarkMode(),DARK_MODE_EVENT_NAME,UPDATE_DARK_MODE_EVENT_NAME, thedarkModeparameter and thesb-addon-themes-3localStorage key all behave exactly as before, so no story or preview needed changing beyond the import path.chore: use shared tsconfig in @rocket.chat/storybook-dark-mode—tsconfig.jsonextends@rocket.chat/tsconfig/client.jsoninstead of Fuselage'stsconfig.base.json, which lets 40 lines of restated compiler options go; onlyjsx: "react"has to stay, since the addon uses the classic runtime.rimrafdrops out ofdevDependenciesin favour ofrm -rf dist, the way every other package here spells it.chore: fix @rocket.chat/storybook-dark-mode manifest after the migration— three things the copy left behind:repository.urlstill pointed atRocketChat/fuselage; it now points here, keepingtypeanddirectory(the path is the same in both repos).storybookwas not declared at all. The source importsstorybook/preview-api,storybook/manager-api,storybook/themingand the internalstorybook/internal/{components,core-events,types}, but the manifest listed onlyreact/react-domas peers — upstream5.0.0did declarestorybook: ^10.0.0, and the fork dropped it. It resolved only becausestorybookis hoisted to the workspace root, which means the package could not build in isolation and the internal (non-public) APIs it leans on had no version contract. Now^9.1.20indevDependencies(same range as@rocket.chat/storybook-config, so it dedupes onto the existing resolution) and^9.0.0inpeerDependencies. No new packages enter the lockfile and no new peer warnings appear — both consumers already declare Storybook 9.voltapin was missing, so the repo's Node version was not picked up inside the package directory. 58 of the 61 manifests underpackages//apps/carry{"extends": "../../package.json"}; Fuselage pins only at its root, so there was nothing to copy.chore: stop emitting declarations from the esm and cjs build passes—client.jsonturnsdeclarationanddeclarationMapon, so every one of the threetscpasses emitted.d.tsand.d.ts.map. Only the third is referenced —typespoints atdist/ts/index.d.ts— so the copies underdist/esmanddist/cjswere dead weight in the tarball (filesships all ofdist). Both are now off for the two JS-only passes, leavingdist/tsas the single source of types. Not something the migration introduced: Fuselage'stsconfig.base.jsonsets the same two flags, and its publisheddist/esmcarries the same redundant declarations.chore: drop the redundant optional call on window.matchMedia— the one place where the code, not just its formatting, differs from Fuselage.prefersDarkwas initialised withwindow.matchMedia?.('(prefers-color-scheme: dark)'), butWindow.matchMediais non-optional inlib.dom, so TypeScript erases the?.from the resulting type:prefersDarkwas alreadyMediaQueryList, neverMediaQueryList | undefined. Which is just as well, because the downstreamprefersDark.matchesandprefersDark.addListener(…)are unguarded and would throw onundefinedanyway. The optional call bought nothing except the appearance of a guard, and wherematchMediareally is missing the only difference is whether the throw lands at module evaluation or at first render.Net effect on the lockfile is fewer packages, not more: the fork's three runtime dependencies (
@storybook/global,@storybook/icons,fast-deep-equal) all dedupe against ranges the tree already had, while dropping upstream5.0.0removes@storybook/icons@2.0.2,memoizerificandmap-or-similar.Issue(s)
ARCH-2360
Steps to test or reproduce
Nothing changes for the end user — this is Storybook tooling only, and no application code is touched.
yarn workspace @rocket.chat/storybook-dark-mode build— threetscpasses emit JS plus sourcemaps intodist/esmanddist/cjs, and declarations intodist/tsonly.lintis clean.yarn workspace @rocket.chat/storybook-config build— clean, which is the real check on the switchover: it typechecksuseDarkModeandDARK_MODE_EVENT_NAMEagainstpackages/storybook-dark-mode/dist/ts.yarn workspace @rocket.chat/gazzodown build-storybook— completes, i.e. Storybook resolves the workspace addon throughgetAbsolutePath('@rocket.chat/storybook-dark-mode')→preset.js→dist/esm/preset/managerand bundles its manager entry.yarn workspace @rocket.chat/gazzodown storybook(or any other host, pluspackages/livechat) — the sun/moon toggle is in the toolbar, flips manager and preview themes, persists across reloads, and the Fuselage palette follows it in both stories and docs pages.node_modules/@rocket.chat/storybook-dark-modeshould be a symlink to../../packages/storybook-dark-mode, andstorybook-dark-modeshould be gone from the tree.Further comments
The peer range says
^9.0.0, which is a claim worth reviewing. The addon reaches intostorybook/internal/*— non-public API with no stability guarantee across minors, let alone the whole major.^9.0.0is the honest reading of what it targets today, but if the Storybook reconciliation work moves us to 10 this fork has to follow, and that is where upstream5.xalready is.matchMediais still assumed to exist. Commit 4 drops the optional call that pretended otherwise, but it does not add a real guard:prefersDark.matchesandprefersDark.addListener(…)remain unguarded, so a host withoutmatchMediathrows. Making the guard real means typingprefersDarkasMediaQueryList | undefinedand handling it at all three use sites — more churn against the fork, and only worth it if we expect to run the manager somewhere other than a browser. No
publishConfig.access: public. The ticket flags this package as the only public one in Fuselage without it, and asks that we confirm how it currently reaches npm as a scoped package before touching its publish path — so the manifest is unchanged on that point. Nothing publishes from here until ARCH-2350 lands.Consumers use
workspace:~, notworkspace:^. The ticket says^.~is what the surrounding packages use for internal workspace dependencies and what the emitter migration (#41768) settled on, so I stayed consistent; trivial to flip if the migration plan depends on^.npm trusted publishing still needs repointing. As the ticket notes, the publisher is bound to
RocketChat/fuselage+.github/workflows/cd.yml. That is an npm UI change by an org owner and cannot be done from this repo. The
README.mdwas not carried over. Fuselage ships the upstream addon's docs alongside the package; the emitter migration did not bring a readme either, so I followed that, but for a forked third-party addon the usage docs arguably have more reason to travel with the code. Happy to add it.No changeset.
@rocket.chat/storybook-config, which takes it as a regular dependency, isprivate: true;@rocket.chat/livechattakes it as adevDependency, so its published bundle is unaffected. Nothing here belongs in end-user release notes.Summary by CodeRabbit
