Feature Request: define up-direction for teardrop-hole #53
It would be nice to define in which direction to add the teardrop / bridge.
I am currently designing a front-panel with the coordinate system as shown in the screenshot:
I later decided to print the part with the panel pointing downwards and would like to add a teardrop in the direction pointing opposite of the front panel. Currently, FFD add a teardrop perpendicular to the desired direction.
.....
I just found the "Teardrop Rotation" variable by accident while editing the Sketch.
Maybe we could add an option to the operation panel?
Ahh, also, after changing rotation or angle params, they are not updated automatically. Not even if you recompute. You need to open and close the sketch to update.
Hmm, yeah, adding the rotation to the operation panel is definitely possible. What bugs me a bit is that you can't easily tell what direction a given angle actually means. I'd love to show a preview similar to the ones done by PartDesign operations... But that's not too easy to do with how things are set up right now.
What you report about recomputes now working is odd. For me, this works perfectly well, just checked again: When I change the TeardropRotation on the original PartDesign_Hole, it is marked for recompute and then recomputes to rotate the teardrop accordingly.
Nevermind the bug. I just tried in a new document and it worked fine. Then I tried it again in my original document and it worked there too. I guess it was a temporary FreeCAD issue.
What bugs me a bit is that you can't easily tell what direction a given angle actually means.
Could you use the axes as options?
Sure, a live preview would be superb (in some future version). But at least I know there is an option and can play around. :)
So the way it works is that we rotate the holes in the sketch plane, whatever that may be. So 0° is +X of the sketch plane, but that can be arbitrary in world coordinates.
I think short of figuring out some kind of preview, there isn't really anything that can help here :/

Add the property to the task panel in #54.
