It embeds the timeline widget of X (formerly Twitter), which has been unreliable for visitors who are not logged in to X, and the code has not been updated since 2021. Porting it to a newer OJS would not fix that.
Successor: Social Feed Block for OJS 3.5. It shows the latest posts of a Mastodon or Bluesky account. The server fetches and caches the posts and renders plain HTML, so a visitor's browser loads nothing from the social network and no cookie is set. That also addresses the privacy concern raised in #8.
The existing releases stay available for OJS 3.3 installations.
Install the plugin via "Upload a new plugin" in the Plugin tab of the website settings or upload it directly to the Block Plugin folder (usually ojs-root/plugins/blocks).
Go to Settings->Website->Appearance and scroll down to Sidebar management. Drag the Twitter Plugin to the Sidebar:
